- The NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit surveyed the largest school districts and universities in Silicon Valley, home to nearly half a million students, to learn how educators are navigating new advances in artificial intelligence that have been criticized for enabling cheating and spreading false information. Senior Investigative Reporter Bigad Shaban reports.

The real issue is that ChatGPT can be a better learning tool than many traditional teaching practices when it works. I think the future of education will involve replacing classroom dependence with personalized one-on-one learning sessions with AI. Schools will likely shift towards teaching more conceptually challenging material, with AI serving as our second brain to handle more remedial tasks.

@@beyondthepinnacle5467 Thank you, can you replace my Grammarly subscription? I’ll send you my texts in emails and you send me back the results.
It is a better tool, why waste time with a traditional education? It’s outdated and obsolete. The internet changed everything for the better.
@@beyondthepinnacle5467 And when it DOESN'T work, it's becomes the Dunning-Krueger effect 2.0. It is very good at acting like it knows what it is talking about, while making up complete bullshit.
If ChatGPT came in sooner than it did, I would have finished my PhD 😂
I have two years left till graduation. Ever since ChatGPT came out, my life at the university has been a breeze.
@@-that_guy-1674 good for you! Have you had any plagiarism issues?
I would have graduated wim a cum laude😂😂i mean we use quilbot to paraphrase
No reason to ban something that will be used in the industry
Its the future of work and so banning it will not prepare them for the world of work.
I teach online classes and I have been outsmarted by kids. Students hand in their assignments online, I check their work but never thought to check it for gpt assisted cheating until yesterday. I knew about the issue, I just didnt think it applied to my kids. And it turned out 40%of the students were cheating using chatgpt, according to Ai based text classifier. One student in particular, he was already skilled enough that he could paraphrase the gpt answer into his own answer flawlessly and actually smart enough to perform
well during class, so I would’ve never known that he was choosing using gpt. I first felt angry and frustrated for being cheated, and felt worthless as a teacher but now I am aware that I really need to set a new direction as an educator.
keep in mind classifiers arent always accurate! i am a student who was accused of using ai even though i do not use any socials other than youtube and was unaware of chatgpt. i think my writing style tends to fluctuate; i have also tried using ai checkers on my previous work whereas it came accurate
Classifiers are very inaccurate. Us Declaration of Independence had a 95% likelihood to be generates by a language model.
They say the same thing about calculator.
OpenAI fed data to the chatGPT only up to year end 2021, teachers should assign projects related to events in 2022, then watch the kids having fun trying to cheat.
But then the teachers couldn't reuse their material.
Did you know that you can manually feed chat-gpt post 2021 data via prompts. It’s quite simple if you know what your doing. So your plan is quite obsolete to those who know.
@@challow90221 It does not get fed into OpenAI's real training data models if you feed it new data manually. Be careful what you wish for. They are way ahead of cheating kids.
@@mefirst5427 i already graduated so im not in the demographics of those who use it for cheating per say. You are correct on the fact that its not directly implemented into openAI’s real training model (especially out side of your private conversations.) but, it is still conceptually saved and referenced on a conversation to conversation basis. E.g. when you start a new conversation, the data you feed manually in the last conversation is no longer applied to the new conversation. I like that the conversations are deeply conceptual though. What i find unique ob out Chat gpt-3 and 4 is you can also manually tell it to forget information that you have fed it.
I love this engineers are so tense and dull
God bless you for informing me about chatGPT. I just received an A on my essay. I had no idea what chatgpt was until yesterday.
Teachers are being outsmart.. they feel like 5 grader
they are just there for a paycheck. if you ask a teacher for anything they say just google it.
what? there was cheating? cant believe it. first time kids cheated I am sure. ha ha. dont lie to the AI !!!
what a pointless class.... just creating more student debt salves
why are they using tax payer money top teach stuff that has already been replaced by ai >_>
Ethics teachers need to feel relevant somehow lol
Its really not that deep.. Google and Wikipedia already exists... Chatgpt is like a 3d google... however Its often wrong, repetitive and limited in its scope based on inquiry and access... Most educators get their resources and course design from the McGraw Hills and the Houghton Mifflin Harcourts of the world any damn way... One copy and paste is no better than the other...
That's a very simplistic way of seeing it. It is getting better everyday and bad guys will exploit the F out of it.
@@Dr_Manhattan_Phd example?
I think this an exaggeration because when there is a professor in the class it makes cheating hard, but if it were homework outside of class then it cames it easier.
School computers do check what students are using, so using AI is less likely.
whoever said using school computers?
If that were the case I would have been expelled. Your claim is flawed.
I don't need my brain anymore..
me neither
Easiest class. Why cheat on that
because I got 4 other classes and still gotta balance life itself with homework for 4 classes and lie to my friends that im sick so I can finish my homework. im not trying to spend hours trying to conjure an essay for a boring class. This isn't the dark ages no more. we have the technology its time to utilize it.
Because its ironic.
@@-that_guy-1674 I promise you you will not regret it if you just delete the AI from your computer right now. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just hoping to give you advice that I promise will be worth it.
@@roxiethecockapoo1138 I appreciate the advice and not forcing me to do anything. However, Ive found exponential success thanks to chatGPT. deleting the AI from my computer would be a huge leap into the dark ages.
BRAIN WASHING TO TURN HUMANS INTO ROBOTS 😂😂😂
Robots are smarter and live longer. Sign me up. I can make money for eternity.
I am for AI to aid in learning, but not cheating. Just as long as the technology doesn't lead us into developing Terminators...
WHY DOES HE KEEP SAYING G B T
Can you ask CHATGPT if an essay has been written by CHATGPT?
You can, but it will not be a reliable source of information. ChatGPT doesn't save a record of its output, so it cannot tell you for sure that it wrote the content. It can only guess, and it commonly produces false-positives on authentically written content at rates that are unacceptable to be considered reliable science. It can also be biased against people whose first language isn't English, and be much more likely to detect their authentically written content as AI generated.
