This is the video I've been looking for. I admire your determination. I have a 3 month old. I am a native English speaker from Ireland. My wife speaks English to our baby. I speak Irish (not a native speaker but probably high B1/ low B2 level). I want her to be able to speak our country's native language, the language of my grandparents. I work on my Irish every day.
I love this video... All the other bilingual videos I've watched one of the parents is a native speaker of 1 language and the other is a different language. So they both just speak their native language, this is the first one that explains how to do it if you're trying to teach her child, not your native language...I'm an English speaker in the US trying to teach my child German as I'm learning it. As I'm watching I realized you're doing the same thing one parent in one language and the other in the other. Sucks I'm a single mom and am not fluent in my target language but goals!
This is so encouraging. Anyone can teach a language to their kids as a non native speaker. It takes time and alot of dedication. It takes years. Its not easy but doable. 💪
I'm amazed at how perfect your English is! Could you please share with us your own English language journey? Or have you already made such a video? Thank you! ❤
Hey! Just quickly wanted to check in and say thank you. I just recently decided to raise my child bilingual. Our son is almost two years old and only has spoken a few words in german until know. Just days after I suddenly switched from speaking german (mother language of me and my family) to english only he could already repeat words as mouse and nose and show these body parts, if asked. It may sound paradoxical - although it only being a language that I learned in school, speaking english to my son makes me feel more connected to him. Though I am feeling uncomfortable in some situations, I seem to adapt to the new situation as well. Now after seeing you , a non native who already made it to give her son the ability to speak more than one language, gives me so much hope and makes me fell that I am doing the right thing. So again, I am so grateful for you sharing your honest experience - I really needed to see and hear that. All the best for you and your family!
Mind-blowing, I cannot actually hear any foreign traces in your accent. Congratulations :) And the content is inspiring, it gives me confidence and courage to carry on with my own journey. I will keep watching your videos. Thank you
My native language is Spanish and since one year and six months I stared to learn English because I moved to United States and my daughter learned very fast just with cartons and kindergarten online.
I am from former Ussr .raising bilingual child living middle east.u have perfect english. can you share more conversational videos with your son ? thanks ahead.
Hi, Hannah! Could you give us in future videos some recommendations of channels or Ig accounts to follow that show native families speaking in English which we can follow as a model? Thanks in advance.
thanks for the great stuff. I was eagerly waiting for this video like a non native speaker of english raises their kids in english. its gonna be a long journey for me , but you are giving me hope and motivation. By the way, I can't tell the difference between you and native speakers.
Hi!I my daughter learned English after 3 months maby I don't remember exactly but now she can communique whit other children in Kindergarten in U.S. when she joined to the school she did not know anything about English
Hi anna..I m from India...I always watch your videos...I like your videos a lot....My daughter is 4 years old....and I am doing the same...lots of love & Thanks a lot ❤️❤️❤️
I'm not sure about the cartoons, because as an intermediate speaker I often don't understand what is told in it because of the specific pronunciation ;)
Hi Hannah! I say to start speaking with child if he's under 6... my son is 5 and he get nervous when I try ro speak with him in english or when I watch TV in english with my dauther of 10 ... he says that he doesn't understand. I've always thought that it was to late... don't you think so? have I hope yet? 🤞🤞🤞
Hmm, i’m a native english speaker with a degree in english. But i have to make a few points which are supported by the current research. People dont “learn” a language, they aquire it. And children aquire the language of their peers. NOT their parents. This is why children of foreign parents don’t share the speaking accent of their parents. Noam Chomsky has discussed this. You can put them in an english speaking class where they are surrounded by peers speaking english. Then they will aquire it. Non-natives usually get to about about a fifth grade level in english. They learn basic conversational english. Basically television english. They dont know there is anything beyond that. Because they never increase their reading literacy. But any kid who does not know english these days is basically shut out of the modern world. Its essential for communicating online and for work. Its the default international language. So any parent who wants their kids to learn english should be putting their kids in english only classes. Otherwise ur in for a hard time.
But how do you put a two year old in an English class? We are talking about two different things. The things that I suggest are also supported by research. Your point is absolutely valid and parents who don't speak English themselves should put their kids in an English class or, like I said in the video, do this in addition to their communication with their kids in English.
I speak with my child only in English not because I want to its because he doesn't have any interest in speaking his mother's tongue 🥺 He grew up in a non english speaking country watching cartoons only in English so I guess It's my turn now to become a native english speaker
Hello, Anna! I’d like to ask you if you have some compilation or list of useful phrases which we usually use with a small child? For example: “Do you want to play/poo/drink? Give me your snotty nose”. And the other different useful phrases which we use every moment communicating with babies. Which time we should use: past simple or past perfect?
Some good phrases are: Are you thirsty/hungry? Do you need to go to the bathroom? Wait, let my wipe your nose! Let's play! Shall we go to the playground?
I'm a native English speaker. You sound like a native English speaker. I'm curious about your first language Ukrainian. I can't hear your accent. Which tells me you must have a accent when you speak Ukrainian?? And why do you never speak Ukrainian? Everyone has an accent when they talk Your either a native English speaker or you don't speak Ukrainian no more.
Сорри, но ты делаешь огромную ошибку разговаривая на английском с ребёнком в США. Он не будет билингвом (сорри трилингвом как ты), он к 15 годам будет only инглыш спикер...

It's never too late. you know your child best, try to get him interested in the language.
Just put him in an english speaking class. He will pick it up after a while. 5 is not too late
😍😍👍

Wow! I'm blown away by you! I wonder what's your first language: Russian or Ukrainian? And are you planning to teach him Russian?)
My first language is Ukrainian and he speaks Ukrainian as well as English :)
