You have no idea how helpful this was, I was ready to get rid of my gopro completely as I ride motorcycles and using the quik app does not work for large files, thank you so much!
I knew it had GPS, but it never crossed my mind to look for the data. I got started on this little trip after seeing a YT video showing FPV footage using gauges like this. One of the issues with the DJI goggles is no recorded OSD data. I have a fix for some of that now at least. Dragon 2, Kopilot, DJI Air Unit, GoPro Hero 5 will give me some nice FPV footage to share ;)
Have found out how to import the Accel data into DashWare? Whenever you click "Accelerometer" in the free extractor, you lose some export options. I've tried all of the available ones and it Dashware doesnt seem to like it. Thanks!
When I add my video the controls stay dark and it doesnt play. gauges work fine in preview. when I export, it spits back the video with gauges stuck on one point for a minute and then they go away. I suspect it doesnt like my video files, but why? I couldnt find an answer online so I tried the Garmin Virb editor, and that thing is a winner! Same workflow with the free telemetry extractor
Glad you found the video. This one didn't get nearly the views I thought it would, but I know the material is going to eventually be helpful. Anyway--you're welcome.
@@RCVideoReviews Clearly. I knew telemetry extractor but I didn't know that the "free" part was useful. And I thought I was stuck in Dashware with the "Data extraction failed" error. Thanks :D
What if i need to merge several gopro 9 videos? Dashware corrupt gps data while merging files, so Telemetry Extractor d doesn't see gps in merged files.
It's not a great answer, but the best option I've found is to create a project template with the gauges lined up the way you want them and use Dashware to create segments. 1. GoPro 9 video segment 1 with extracted telemetry and synchronization 2. Create Video 1 3. GoPro 9 video segment 2 with extracted telemetry and sync. 4. Create Video 2 5. Use your video editor to merge Video 1 and Video 2.
@@RCVideoReviews Hey, i also trying with serveral video and i found the data from different video show different location even I am in a same session of karting. So HUD data won't work started from 2nd video time in a merged video. Your solution is worked but the lap time counter will not work properly because it's merged from 2 different video
iNav too, but then you need a flight computer and won't be able to get this info with a Kopilot. That's the interesting combo to me at the moment: Dragon 2, Kopilot, Hero 5 with GPS and OSD....hmmmmmm.
Yeah, just trying to find a work around. I think the firmware works, it's the gauge software that can't read the new metadata. Anyway, first world problems right?

This is excellent. Great alternative to buying the expensive overlay software.
Agreed!
Wow the options on this are amazing and the clarity of the video is so nice great demo on what you can do with this Hero 9 Great Job John
Take Care
We have some sun today, so maybe the UK weather pattern is out of here and I can actually fly something. Dragon + Hero 5 + Gauges = [smile]
Wow! I had no idea that you could do all that. I don’t have a GoPro but if I ever get one, it’s cool to know you can extract all that information.

Great video. For the highway stars watching the Hero will be the first thing the police seize during your accident investigation ;-)
They need password protection on the SD cards.
You, my sir, are amazing! Subscribed...
I've been wondering how long it would take this video to catch attention of people who wanted to do this. Welcome to the channel.
@@RCVideoReviews well the time certainly came for me. Thank you.

Dashware is a epic app, i've used Dashware for my GoPro Hero 8 Black, i've used it before.
It was pretty cool. Seems development has stopped unfortunately.
A very good review and thanks a heap for taking the time and effort to make it. And a big thumbs up.
Much appreciated!
Nice video and information. Always learning something new from each of your videos. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do! Appreciate the kind words.

great video - i've been wanting DASHWARE to 'count down' distance remaining... but no idea how to do it, any ideas?
Unfortunately not
Thanks for help !
I was getting desperate for the Hero 9's features...

Yeah, I'm bummed that's broke. It works great with my Hero 5.
I have a error that cannot exctract data on my gopro 9
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!

any idea on how to set up satellite counter?
Sorry, no.
@@RCVideoReviews damn, literally nothing sbout it online or in the helpme thing xD
Love your vids
Thanks. I love that you watch them ;)
Can I open this using MacBook Air?
I don't know.
No, you cant unless you run windows on your mac
Very cool..
I'm just a little salty I didn't know about this earlier. It's so easy...
You can use Dashware to overlay Ardupilot log data too. No need for a GoPro!

it´s the same issue with the gopro hero8
You mean the Hero8 GPS data doesn't extract in dashware either? Annoying they broke that.
by the way tanks for the alternative i finally could extract and synchronize the data,
if used for a crash cam in a car its cool you could tell the cops nope i hit the breaks see the accelerometer says so lol
Yeah, that evidence might cut both ways though.
It also isnt really _that_ accurate
Great video but all this because GoPro's firmware is garbage
