- In this video we explore the second DLC of Dark Souls 3 -- The Ringed City. With my time at Namco I played through much of the Ringed City DLC, fought a new boss, and tried many new weapons and miracles. But the majority of my time with the DLC was spent in the new arena matchmaking and PvP modes of team and brawl battles.
In this video we’re strictly going to take a look at arena PvP and the weapons and miracles showcased at the event. It should be noted that there’s more weapons and spells in The Ringed City than were shown.
The weapons and miracles showcased were; Lothric Banner, Ringed Knight Straight Sword, Dragonhead Shield, Projected Heal and Lightning Arrow.
This video is based on early footage of Dark Souls 3 gameplay the Ringed City DLC from a Bandai Namco event on March 15, 2017. At the event I was allowed to play the first several hours of the DLC, but this video primarily covers the new PvP arena modes of Brawl and Team battles.

Nice to see that the confirmed 4 hit combo doesn't do a lot of damage and is more to attack crowds.
I know the video quality of the streamed sections is trash but if you look closely when I'm talking about it locking you in for so many hits, during that clip I only had one hit left (or less) and I took him from full health to dead in a 6-hit combo. That's why everyone was freaking out. So the 6-hit does just shy of 1200 dmg, the 4-hit does somewhere in the range of high 700s. It's pretty powerful for a fast-swinging straight sword.
TerraMantis Shame that it uses FP, as it's sorta like Friedes scythe in its speed but Friede's didn't use FP for its combo.
The weapon art at least has got to be parriable right? It'd be stupid if it wasn't.
Only the first swing of specifically the weapon art can be parried, if you're hit by the first swing of the weapon art then you're locked in for 3 additional hits.

+ysebyy Yes. It's very easy. You can even group up in larger groups and then choose who wants to be on what team. For example, if you had a group of 4 friends and say player #1 & player #4 wanted to be on the same team then they could choose to be on the preferred team within the same group other than player 2 & 3. Hope that makes sense.

But can you play with a friend vs randoms? Like just co-op duel vs some other duos/randoms?

The new straight sword looks like it handles similar to Ludwig's Holy Blade in Bloodborne. Is that accurate or is it something completely different?
I know about that. I was wondering more on it's use. A straight sword that has a weapon art that turns it into a fast greatsword with great combos.

James Lovell since the spell has an aoe it really shouldn't be that hard to hit an ally with it.

Hey Steve, were you able to use the aquamarine dagger at all or were you not allowed to use it for the pvp demo, also what weapon would you say is your favorite with the arrival of this DLC?

From what I used in the demo the Ringed Knight straight sword is definitely my favorite weapon. As for the aquamarine dagger, I was not able to use it in the PvP session but I was able to use in PvE. It's basically like a dagger that when its weapon art is performed turns into a Rapier. That's about it.
TerraMantis ok, I was a bit curious about the aquamarine dagger and how it's weapon art reminds me of the ivory straight sword from dark souls 2, also my favorite weapon I saw was definitely the ringed knight straight sword too ^^ I personally can't wait for this DLC to drop XD also if rumors of there being a dragon covenant in this DLC are true, then oh my god from software, take my money! XD
I know I'm late, but I have a question. See, I bought DS3 on release day, and it was awesome, however, I didn't have PS+. I realise now that both of the last DLC's for the last DS game are released, so I was wondering, is it worth it to buy both DLC's - Ashes of Ariandel and The Ringed City, for €30, AND to buy a 3 month PS+ For the PVP? Is the game still alive?
yes it is, at level 120, if you play with any other level you won't find anyone on the arena so...
since u said u played alot of the actual dlc my question is does it have more content then the previous dlc and is it worth it
Worth is completely subjective. To me it's worth it just for that Ringed Knight Straight Sword. I have no idea what would constitute worth you.
Beside that though, yes, The Ringed City is larger than Ashes of Ariandel. It also has a much higher degree of difficulty.
Wait, so the new maps are added to anyone who has a dlc, but if to access the arena you need the champion's bones, will you be able to play in the arena with only the 2nd dlc or you'll have to buy it?
i guess there will be like another copy of the champions bones in the ringed city.

AverageSoul you can get access to the maps but you can't unlock the arena without the bones, how does that work?

It's pretty fantastic. I think people are going to be complaining about how over-powered it is in no time.
Cool I used to love Orma and Reevs in Dark souls 2 and i was super disappointed when it wasn't in Dark souls 3 as well as my favorite set of armor Steel set although my second favorite set is in dark souls 3 and with the fire witch set coming out i can use the hood with my armor just like dark souls 2
And it seems that Giant door can do what orma and reevs couldn't for some reason (putting the shields together to block) i can't find allot of footage for it and would like to know how viable it is like how strong is the guard for teammates can damage pass through it to your allies in any way via Great weapons or magic spells ?
how does it stack up to boss heavy hits too do bosses get caught on the door or do they pass through
do you roll back upon taking a super heavy hit(like the other great shields) or do you stand still without budging holding the boss back
sorry for the barrage of questions but this shield is the most fascinating to me as someone who beat the game the first time two handing a Greatshield

Yeah I understand that, but in terms of setting it does feel like it might make the most sense with that particular ending. Then again it could just be the same with Ariandel with slightly different dialogue. I just wanted to make sure though.
It's not locked behind any particular ending. I can't say much beyond the fact that you use a different banner at the gargoyles after Vordt and they fly you to the new location.

"Many" is such an arbitrary or subjective term, I have no idea what "many" would mean from one person to the next. I can tell you The Ringed City adds more (in basically every respect) than Ashes of Ariandel.
Perhaps refer to; would a fashion souls player be happy? And/or perhaps have more than 10 new armours to mess with?

Phantom range is the dumbest and most annoying shit ever in PvP.
The Daedra At least it affects a small number of weapons, then again phantom range is not gonna mean insta-win so there's that.
There can never be true competitive PvP in Dark Souls, not unless it's over LAN and there's some form of anti-cheat or game master included.
Dark Souls 3 is literally one of the easiest games when it comes to cheating and hacking. Ever.
And Peer to Peer connection for PvP? Look at Rainbow Six Siege or For Honor. Or even DS3, for that matter! I live in Europe and my 100Mbps internet connection is literally useless when I join some guy on a 3G network on Zimbabwe or wherever when he happens to be the host. Not to mention the host always has an advantage, no matter the connection.
Sure, pretty stoked about the new DLC stuff, but competitive matches in DS3? There's so many reasons why it can't work in the current condition, not even starting on the weapon balance and so on. Just not a thing that'll happen.

You can now use a password to match with people just for your team, which you weren't able to do before. It's handy for teaming up with friends

the arena should've been a free update so that people without the dlc could enjoy some pvp or it should've been there from the start of dark souls 3 like they did with the dark souls 2 arena I feel like this is a way for miyazaki to make more money by removing certain things it had in the last game and adding those things in with dlc
okke faber if they really cared about the games Pvp, they would buy the DLC. If not forget he arena, but for the weapons alone.

If you are still answering, what build is that? I wonder how much damage you can squeeze out of lightning bow at 60 faith.
The builds were preset when we got there. Character stats were extremely rounded so we could wield/cast everything. We were definitely not min-maxed at all. As for the Lightning Bow damage, I don't know the answer to that. If I remember correctly our characters were either 150 or 165... I don't remember exactly.

"first several hours"? Pls tell me this DLC is at least 6 hour-long
Like any Souls game, if you know exactly where to go, how to run past specific enemies, how to fight every boss, what build or equipment to wear... then you're going to blow through it in 20 minutes. But yes, I'd say it will take at least 4-5 hours to complete based on my time with it for an average player not looking up guides. I think a ton of people are going to be stuck in the first area for a long time without a guide.

You can only parry the weapon art's first swing, if you miss that you're locked in for an additional 3 hits.
Basically the same rolling fest with annoying stagger with new goofy anime stuff.

A four combo guaranteed straight sword that can follow up with a more or less guaranteed charged R2 and another R1? Nah fam, I'm cool, I'll just wait out the time till Nioh's PvP comes out so I can have PvP that is actually fun and not cancerous. *I know I am probably going to eat my words when it comes out and is polluted by kusurigama and duel katana users but I don't care, DS3 PvP still fails in my eyes when they implement bullshit like this.*

Xephonix 450 currently, yes, but that is because they are all the same stats, possibly at minimum requirements. Taking into consideration a red tear stone ring plus morion blade, in addition to a person built for it, there are two ways this weapon is going, it is either going to be everywhere and overpowered, or going to be rare because everyone knows how to counter it. And let's be honest, the last thing we needed was another straight sword spam, and with how broken DS3 is with hitboxes, "If it connect" isn't a question, it will connect whether you are in their face or on the other side of the arena thanks to poor server quality that after 4 games they still can't get to work properly nor are they capable of taking care of the endless list of hackers out there, or the fact that you could be cornered by about 3 or 4 people using that 4 hit, and you will just be there with all you can do is panic roll to get out.
Did they learn nothing from Frieda Scythe or Dark Sword? Giving one person that much power is fine and all but considering they might grab people who will also be using this weapon, can summon up to 3 people plus a blue sentinel, and you got yourself an even worse invading experience. FromSoft has forsaken the art of invasions and has turned into a brawl game like For Honor but with a decent story and shittier combat system.
I just want someone do to PvP and Invasions correctly for once, and the best we have gotten was Dark Souls 2. All I can really do at this point is pray for Nioh to not fail me like every other soulsy game has when it comes to PvP. Let It Die wasn't all too bad about it but there was a lot to be desired.
Can't wait for the pvp. Pve is already fun as fuck.
Nioh pvp will propably be similiar to bloodborne but with more controll and Combos.
