      Story Of Seasons Wonderful Life. The original game had such an impact on my childhood, it will always be #1. Unless a remake of New Beginnings comes out, I'm a shameful Soseki stan. But for real, though, Wonderful Life is very special to me- I wouldn't be who I am without it. Any critique and praise of any other game would be biased, WL will always win.

    Roots of Pacha was actually way better than I expected it to be! It ended up being my favorite this year for cozy games, though to be fair: from this list I only played Palia, A Wonderful Life, Everdream Valley, Fae Farm and Roots of Pacha. I really want to play Sandrock next!
    I had a bug in my Everdream game that basically made the game start running at 3 FPS at all times... completely unplayable. The official "fix" suggested by one of the devs on Discord was "Delete your file and start a brand new game". Surprisingly: I didn't feel like playing the same 30 hours of the same quests all over again. Imagine that!

  • @CrazyBuffyFan1

    Snacko being more like 20-30 hours would actually be perfect for me, because I find I don't have as much patience for longer cozy games as I used to. Still looking forward to that one. :)

    thank you for your honest opinion , we really appreciate the time you put into all your content but don't feel bad about your opinion on certain games , it's nice to see a content creator being honest and open and I feel you give games hours of gameplay before even giving reviews so thank you 😊 have a wonderful day . I would have to say Coral Island is my favorite for 2023 but as you said the bugs are bad and the missing content , I quit playing for now until its fixed .

    Can't believe it's been almost a year since your last ranking video - I think these are my favorites. Comprehensive, succint, and a great summary of each passing year. I recently went through my backlog to play World's Dawn which I enjoyed, but my favorite game I played this year was probably RF4 special! I finally went back to revisit it after playing it for hours on my 3DS. As always, thank you for your reviews and honest opinions!

    @CombatByrd 6 месяцев назад +5

    I'm also glad to see you rank SoS A Wonderful Life so high! This was a remake of one of my most played and most nostalgic Harvest Moon games, and I still holds up imo! There are a few complaints of course, with my main one being the lack of dialogue. I just hit year four? five? And Nami is still saying the exact same things about how hot it is in the summer, every single day. And since the game doesn't have a ton to do, talking to the villagers is a must.

  • @Strawberryfox26

    Great video! So many good games this year. 🎉
    I got back into Coral Island and had a lot of fun with it, one of my faves, but doesn’t feel finished. Sun Haven was my favorite for a long time at the start of the year. It has a lot going on but the progression is nice. I agree that it’s hard to get back into after a while, so when I play again I’m starting over. Fae Farm was a nice surprise, I really enjoyed it a lot and have 50-60 hours in it.
    Other than those I got back into stardew (again - with mods this time) and looking forward to the update! Loved Palia too but I had to play on the PC and I much prefer steam deck.
    Also really enjoyed Roots of Pacha, Cuisineer, Moonstone Island, Travelers rest, Dave the Diver, Winkeltje and Cozy grove ❤ Actually had fun decorating and exploring in Spirit of the Island as well.
    Disoppointed in Everdream Valley, Blue Oak Bridge, and Song of the Prairie. They didn’t keep my attention unfortunately. I played the demo of Paleo Pines and decided it was not for me.
    For some reason I have not really got into Sandrock yet.
    My #1 game this year is still Dreamlight Valley. It’s the game that always feel fresh and fun to go back to. Nothing can beat it at this point. So much fun with all the updates, dream snaps and decorating. I’m loving how the game is developing, feels like there’s still much to come! And the DLC is amazing. I don’t think any other game has kept me playing this much for over a year. I’m so happy with that game. I wish you played it too but totally understand it’s very time consuming. But I know there is a huge community out there for DDV you could reach if you ever do play it. 🤗
    Looking forward to next year with all the cozy games and your gaming garden content! 🥳

    Wow, excellent video! Fun production quality, from things like being very indecisive on where to put AWL to the fly in entrance of HM64. Sorry I commented before I finished the video and saw that surprise. :-)
    As I've said in the past, you are my number one source of farming sim info and took detailed notes on this video. It was a great summary of the year! I generally only wishlist fully released games, though I have several early access titles written on my radar, some brand new as of this video, and I only wishlist games I intend to buy when a good price comes or am really on the fence. I already had Sandrock wishlisted, but I officially decided to wishlist Sprout Valley, Roots of Pacha, and Fae Farm. Give me a good sale developers and I'll buy it! Fae Farm is an on the fence example, but if it goes on a huge sale I'll probably pick it up. And after much deliberation for a couple of months, your words in this video among past ones helped me decide to make a decision and finally remove Winds of Anthos from my wishlist. Let's see if Natsume learns even more from this game, and more importantly, pulls the formula back away from the wisp-based farming and empty open world. A lot of us like organization of our crops and getting to pick the seeds we want.
    You are a truly great source of valuable information. Don't feel bad about being critical of games, as I believe you do an excellent job of being unbiased and always making sure to include both pros and cons. If you didn't have such thoughtful and sometimes critical reviews, your information wouldn't be as helpful. Plus, you're considerate enough to apologize for being factful, and it shows where your heart is. You care about these developers but must speak the truth as it is. Keep up the great work!

    What a great list, thank you, Josh. Farming games I enjoyed this year:
    1.Roots of Pacha 2.SoS AW 3. HM WoA.
    Harvest Moon 64 is such a classic masterpiece, like you said I wish more games were like HM 64, and had a challenge today farming games are too easy there's no challenge like bad weather, animal death or more meaningful relationship like AW. They only have more tediousness like mines+200 floors, sell this amount.
    Coral Island was released incompletely same as SunHaven they didn't even fix controller support.

    Cornucopia - The NPK system in cornucopia defines the size/quality of the harvest.
    Example: planting a tomato in a plot not meeting the NPK requirement will yield small tomato, but if the requirements are met, you can get the regular size tomato or a chance large tomato which you can sell for more.
    you can improve the NPK system by adding fertilizer which is very easy to make too.
    Song of Prairie - In regards to what you said about it not having a unique feature, I think being able to hire people to farm, mine and fish for you is kinda unique and you can also give them equipments to improve the efficiency of their farming.
    second unique feature is that you can get baby animals in the wild instead of buying. there is also hidden quest that can grant you special animals for free too, like the golden boar.

    Thank you for judging SOS:AWL as a remake :) One of my pet peeves from the steam reviews was people judging it against 2023 farming games when it was actually the predecessor for what could be now. I haven't played all of the games on the list, but I'm really glad to see that MTAS and Coral island were placed highly. I know there are a lot of issues of CI being pushed to release when it isn't ready but that's not the fault of the developers and I know there are issues like plenty of bugs across consoles, but I do truly believe the game has so much to offer that it deserves to be on top. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like at it's peak full release could overtake SDV (crazy, I know). But it just introduces so many new and important things to the farming genre that I really appreciate and love to see.

    I have Sun Haven and I think your Assessment of it is correct. I put so many Hours into my Sun Haven Farm that it's Huge and I have several Coops and Barns full of animals and I just unlocked the Elven Farm and I'm finding it a little Overwhelming to have to Manage Both of them. I had to take on a new animal just to have a constant supply of Berries to be able to Travel between them.
    There's so much Crafting too and Processing raw materials into other items takes a long time. it's a Good Game but I'm kind of burnt out on it.

    My hope for 2024 farming games is more innovation in the actual farming mechanics. As someone in the sustainable ag field, the way these games farm all feels extremely bare bones to me; they usually ignore things like crop rotations, genetics, crop improvement, regionality, ecosystem services, native crops vs non native, pest pressure, weather events, and usually they don't integrate animals well either (fertilizer for example). This just scratches the surface, there's sooooo much you can do here.
    I think adding all of these in would be too hardcore for a true cozy game (imagine losing all your Y1 income because you planted a monoculture of corn and there was a drought lol). But I still think there's a wealth of mechanics to pull from IRL that would add much more depth to farming games.

      I love the idea of losing all my crops because of a drought! 😅 It's these kinds of things that make a game memorable, then you learn from your mistakes and it feels rewarding once you get things right. I agree it wouldn't be for everyone but I'd love some hardcore farming sims!

    Man.. might have to try my time at sandrock based on the high review. Im loving Coral Island though. Sunk in over 40 hrs just this week 😅 , but i do agree with your criticism of the game. Something that threw me off at first was some characters on the map not having portraits, just being white circles.

    The funny thing about SoS: A Wonderful Life is its a farming game that sounds good on paper for everyone, but is a game that is not for everyone. And that is fine. It took me a looong time to even finish the game, but I'm glad I did. Its really well done, and I love the quality of life improvements especially, but its also a game that I can't recommend to a lot of people.

    Moonstone island and coral island are easily my favorites of what I played this year. I really tried to enjoy fae farm but the shallowness in the characters really turned me away. To me, it felt unnecessary and a chore to interact with them, making the world feel lonely and one dimensional. The animations and graphics were really polished, but for the pricepoint I wished the characters and lore had a bit more life to them. Great tierlist though, cornucopia and roots of pacha are two games I'm interested in trying even more now!

    Oh this totally made my day Josh! I would almost say Sun Haven is S Tier for me, but just recently it has had a lot of bugs and crashing (don't know if it's game related or my pc) and eventually my save file got completely corrupted and disappeared so unfortunately it got bumped down to A tier. Coral Island is A tier for the same reasons as you. Those I'd say is my top two played games this year, but I've recently played Palia on switch and have been enjoying it so far!

      Oh no, sorry to hear about your Sun Haven save file, that's awful! 😭😨 I guess I've been quite lucky as I've not experience many bugs with that game but I've heard from other people who had a similar experience to yours. Hopefully they can iron out those technical issues, especially as it's planned release for the Switch soon.

    I belive Story of Seasons A Wonderful life deserves to be on S tier, it's a remake based on a pretty old game within a genre that has evolved a whole lot since then and so It wouldn't be fair to compare it to many if not all the none remakes of the farming simulator genre, It would be the same if say Time Splitters 2 was remade today, sure a whole lot of people would enjoy a remake or that game but it wouldn't be fair to compare it to most shooters made these days.

    I really like Palia, and it seems I'm lucky because I absolutely love the earlier furniture and I don't care much for the later ones, so I really don't have to grind a lot, Flow-wood and Palium just keep stacking higher and higher in my stash :P I crafted one of each of the high tier furniture just too see what they looked like and most of them are just so dark and moody, some of the Dragon stuff I like, like the circular bookshelf and some wall decorations and lamps that look nice, but the color doesn't fit in anywhere in my house >.<
    It's also a pretty buggy game, but it has a lot of promise, hopefully the devs can clean up most of the glitches and keep producing quality content and add more areas to explore. It could be huge if they support it properly.

  • @revannia
    @revannia 6 месяцев назад

    I haven't played all of the games listed but for the ones I did play I agreed with their placements for the most part. The only one I really would have moved is Palia - it's far too incomplete and buggy (in addition to the grind) to be S tier for me. In its current state I'd put it at a B. It has a lot of potential to be very good - beautiful world, interesting characters, engaging story - but I personally don't feel it's there yet.
    My fave farming game of the year is MTA Sandrock - beautiful game, tons of content and depth, lots of fun.
    Looking forward to next year's crop of games (no pun intended 😂).

    The roots of pacha is on sale on switch last week I think. I’m hesitant to buy it. Because my pc is on the way. But with kids it’s hard to play on the desktop. But since so said it runs well on switch. I might get it, thanks Josh. I bought sandrock on switch. And to be honest it’s pissed me off. You are right about the graphics lol

    My favorite game is Palia of 2023. Because it seems to be the farthest from being too similar to Stardew Valley. I don't have time to play games much these days, but this is a game where you can play for 15 mins and feel like you are making progress by earning income with the farming passively until you do have time to do other stuff.

  • @NeoArashi
    @NeoArashi 5 месяцев назад

    The issue you stated for Coral Island would be no excuse to anyone. If they show us stuff in the game that you can't even access to then it's not even "added content" or something like that. They flat out sold you an incomplete games. Added stuff are supposed to complement the base game, not be oart of it.
    Personally, that alone would drop it to C Tier instantly, and I could easily see peopls drop it to D tier.

  • @cetsil8001
    @cetsil8001 4 месяца назад

    although i am a bit disappointed that Coral Island did not do a full release on the 1.0 version, i cannot seem to stop myself from playing it. At this point i have accumulated 290 hrs of gameplay. So i would have switched roots of pacha with coral island. But that might be because taking care of the animals in roots of pacha takes up so much time that i don't feel i have much time left to do something else. I refunded Cornucopia.. i found the characters a bit brainless plus the style of the game was just not for me. Keep up the good work Josh!
