    My partner made a comment about me being obsessed with your channel a while back (I was binge watching all of your videos 😂) and I explained how packed full of info they are that sometimes I want to watch them twice. Today, I am watching this one, and I hear him from the living room “That’s important to know so you don’t label your soaps incorrectly…” 😂 here I am rolling my eyes that he finally realizes that I’m learning stuff instead of just binge watching for no reason 😂

    Glad I watched this one, thanks! All I see all day is "YOU CANT MAKE CLAIMS!!!" Yet all I see are claims on every bar of soap I see haha. Been reading fda guidlines, reading and watching other videos, but now I finally understand its ok if you label it correctly per rules of cosmetic labeling. Now I just have to figure out how to convey my items are colored with herbs and botanicals without saying that they are ( rule I wasnt aware of until today :( ) Is this something that can be mentioned on a web page, but left off the label, I wonder??

    So... I've come back to this video 3x now because... Just because there's specific labeling Shit I didn't know.
    This is saved in my library so I can now use the reference links you've listed. Which I GREATLY appreciate.
    Now I am in the process of correcting all of my "cosmetic" labels for my body butters and scrubs.
    I figure if I've gone through the expense of registering my business name, carry product liability insurance, I better not be lazy and have incorrect product labeling.
    Thank you very much for this video, I appreciate your time and work that you put into your channel.
    Have a fantastic day😘

    Coming back to this video because you are my go to for information. 😁 So in conversation within a Facebook group labeling came up. I thought I knew the requirements but now I’m trying to understand again. I do label as a cosmetic just to cover myself but I thought just “soap” was pretty much a free for all as long as it wasn’t misleading. So if it’s a label for just soap, its name, weight, and identifying the product? Also I thought you didn’t have to label at all but then cspc says you do need a label if it’s a hazardous product. What is that according to them…To require labeling, a product must first: be toxic; be corrosive; be an irritant; be a strong sensitizer; be flammable or combustible; or generate pressure through decomposition, heat, or other means. The product must also have the potential to cause substantial personal injury or substantial illness during or as a result of any customary or reasonably foreseeable handling or use, including reasonably foreseeable ingestion by children.
    I don’t consider soap hazardous but I guess it could be if ingested by a child. So does that mean I do in fact need a label with the basic info?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  5 месяцев назад

      Hey! Good questions, I like the deep thinking. Soap wouldn’t kill you if ingested (see: wash your mouth out with soap generation for anecdotal or the composition of finished soap) so it wouldn’t be considered toxic. So it can still be a naked product with no labels whatsoever. Keep in mind that the new cosmetic guidelines are likely going to include soaps at some point, so that may change in the next few years.

A couple questions, how do you handle herb infused oils, or dried herbs infused into the water, or vegetable purree ..ect.. I make a comfy infused oil I use that gives a wonderful green color. Also when using a fragrance oil from a supplier is it ok just to list 'fragrance oil' or do you need to provide a link to the manufacturer of the fragrance oil? Thank you.

    Thank you for all of the hard work you went through to get us this information. My question here is: what if the company that sells the mica doesn't have the ingredients or what the mica is made of? ie: contains titanium dioxide, iron oxides, etc... can we just put down mica or how should we add this to our label? I have bought micas from several companies and did not know we had to do a breakdown of the mica as well and I want to make my labels correctly. Thank you.

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  2 года назад +1

      Hey! Technically if you’re just making soap, no ingredients are required. That said, I would reach out to the company for an ingredient breakdown and look to source a different mica in the future that already has that info on their site. Have fun!

    hi i'm Ladydarksky aka Mrs. F&J vintage soapery i have a makeup addiction! why do they have so many pretty colours! ack! what if you make a whipped sugar soap like you make should it still go under the cosmetic label? is there a good program for labels? can you use a stamp on the actual soap instead of a label? i use bramble berry for my mica's for myself but the samples don't show the ingrediants list but they do have it on site. i did reach out to the FDA and i was surprised at how helpful they are. :)

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  2 года назад

      I would like, generally, for all soapmakers to follow cosmetic guideline labeling no matter what. That said, you don’t have to with a non cosmetic product. As to whether or not a whipped soap is a cosmetic is really up to how you decide to market it. If you say it’s just meant to clean, then you can keep it as a soap because it’s still primarily comprised of the saponified fatty acids of oils. If you say it exfoliates, then we now have a cosmetic.

    What are the guidelines for labeling a soap as an antibacterial as compared to a cleaning product. What are the steps or hoops a person must go through. What websites provide the requirements, as well are there books on this?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  7 месяцев назад

    I have a question, like for bath bombs or shower steamers that are made with a tiny bit of oil, does there need to be a warning ? Such as this product is made with oil, please use caution. (Even though there is poly 80 ) for shower use only.
    Also a how to use or store, for example with soap, please keep dry so this soap will last longer. Or a steamer: so not place under a direct stream of water… or perhaps : place in back of shower so your steamer will perform better. ??
    Just curious.. 🤔🤔

      Good question! You’d blow out the ingredients of the melt and pour and generally include it on the bottom of the list as embeds are usually small in size. Or, alternatively you can say “embed ingredients: *insert what the m&p is made of here* after the full cold process ingredients list

    Do you use the same soap recipe all the time or do you change your labels all the time to reflect a different soap batter? I’m in Canada and we are required to submit our recipes to health Canada for testing and approval so it makes it hard if you want to swap out one ingredient for another. It’s use the same recipe for every bar or send every recipe in for approval. I’m not even sure yet if there is a cost for submission but I don’t imagine the government does anything for free. 😳🥹

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  7 месяцев назад

      I have five staple recipes that are my work horse formulations, and I do the majority of my modifications via lye solution enhancements, clays, etc. All labels get changed if I have to make a substitution for any reason. I imagine we will be required to start submitting our formulations for approval in the US soon!
