Well I visited in April 2023 and finally things are happening to rebuild this cinema .... site up and running and the new steel frame is erected This is going to be another great compliment to the museum and the 1950's town complex Amazing place to visit and the annual pass makes ideal spur of the moment trips to see whats happening ... always something going on in Beamish Museum
In 1912 when it was built my great granny lived there with 8 children (2 more were to follow) (and her mother had lived there since 1874). My granny would have remembered when it was built and I am sure my mother, who is no longer with us and grew up in Ryhope, enjoyed the cinema. I have no photos of the cinema unfortunately. Good luck with the project.
I’ve been looking around after my mother randomly had a moan about how a lot of buildings from whickham front street were supposed to have gone to you guys, before the monstrosities of the 1970s were built in their place. Is this correct and if so what happened to them? The thought that buildings has been sent to beamish in the 70s and 50 years later haven’t made an appearance is concerning. Have they been lost, damaged, stolen or did something get misunderstood by her and they were never going to beamish? Buildings she believes you were getting include Currys TV, Miss Curry’s dress shop and Taylor’s butchers among others.
Just amazing, i have visited Beamish and it is without a doubt the most amazing place on the face of this planet. i wish i could have stayed forever!
