From the viewpoint of one who highly values fuelwood: "It'll burn fine, once properly air-dried." Red oak will just need a couple years. Waste not, want not, you know.
Looks like she should have been harvested years ago. The best thing is the light and water the saplings will now get from her being gone. Thanks for sharing.
That definitely sucks! Where I’m at if it’s that big I tell everyone it’s hollow or full of metal. That’s why it wasn’t cut 30 years ago. I have only been surprised a time or two. Best of luck on the next one. 👍
Saw is runnin good, this one of the rebuilt ones? I like those maxi flex gloves too. They make ones for summer, they are blue and wick sweat. They dont hold up as well as the grey/black ones though.
I’m still amazed how you get all of your cuts to line up when falling a large tree. I couldn’t read the label on the gallon jug of bar oil what is your favorite bar oil and mix oil?
I’ve also often wondered what those big white larvae turn into. They seem to be plentiful inside of a hollowed out red oak in that black rich rot-dirt.
The saw keeps getting stuck because he tries to cut through the entire limb or trunk from the compression side. It's usually better to cut up to a third of the way through from the compression side and finish the cut from the tension side. This also prevents the wood from splitting vertically.
Pete...Still running the Husky chain. Whatever is on your bar seems to be cutting pretty good! Formed any opinions on available chains you previewed several months ago not including over-priced Stihl?
While I admire the skill needed to make the horizontal cuts line up properly, that was a very dangerous way to fell a tree -- no face cut and no hinge. It could have fallen unpredictably, especially given that the base was hollow.
@@nuts319 that’s unfortunate. That’s great wood for homeowners wanting to do there own firewood like myself. Wish that tree was north of you in the Bristol hills. Keep at it.
Lightning tends to stay toward the outside of objects because electrons repel one another. It might kill a young tree or even set it on fire, but it wouldn't hollow out the centre. This tree rotted from the inside.

Red Oak is our staple, with storms and natural die out, we have unlimited firewood. The limiting factor is me.
Wow that is rather intriguing and impressive Pete! Hope things start going better for you.
Big tree little saw. Good job dropping it. You just never know until you start cutting them. Looked like a good tree !

Rebuilt one yes
To paraphrase Forest Gump, you never know what's inside until you cut into it.
Bill
We used to have a market for that stuff but when the big paper mill at Canton, NC shutdown that ended all that.
Boy, that was a lot of work for a couple scabby logs.
Hope the rest of the job goes better.

The cheapest lol

We call them Betsy bug larvae. Or bess beetle. A shiny black beetle about 1½ to 2 inches long.
Thank you
@@nuts319 that black material inside that trunk is great for gardening. We also used it to cover traps on log sets back in the day.
Good fishing worms
I always wondered if they turned into June bugs.
When it rains it pours buddy great video 👍

Pete thanks for sharing! Kevin
You win some, you lose some. The nature of the beast
Im no tree surgeon, but you can tell if a trunk is rotten by the chips or lack of them when sawing!!💪💪👍
You have to take the bad with the good, even though i get aggravated about it. Nice clean woods though, you can actually see the ground.
Nice timber nice job laying it dow

The Husky is what I’m running
That is the way it goes sometimes. Stay safe out there. Cheers
Hey Pete! What was your thoughts on the clone saw. I see you not running it anymore
It’s ok it just uses to much fuel
Had a walnut the same way the other day. Heart breaking whole tree was rotted out
Thank you for the video.
How is logger wade doing
Good!
Chickens love those grubs. I dunno what they end up as either.
At least it was hollow. I've split a solid one from butt to fork because it landed on the fork wrong. Makes good pulpwood though...
Some times the best thing for the woods isnt the best thing for production!
firewood john
Bonfire time, unless you can get a couple of cords of firewood out of it.
Not a total waste ! Great firewood

There’s a face cut I just didn’t get it on the camera I was tryin to keep the video shorter
That right there is a moneymaker😂
Man, that was a weird one. Looked solid and healthy and didn’t even seem soft when you plunged into it. Shame.
Hey Pete great video. I need to get ahold of ya i have 114 acres i need ya to take a look at.
Email me Jeff! Fox.trap@live.com
Nice clean windows
At 19.9k woot keep it going.
Safer like it is now
Make a good bee house. Bout it!
Yep
Well now- that sucks
Hey Pete 👋 , what a shame
You say waste I say put that on a tri axle truck and it’s $300 bucks of a $850 truck. Everything bigger than 6 inches. 🔥 wood all day.
No viable firewood market close to this job

Looks like good fire wood why throw it away sell it or burn it your self
No viable firewood market near this job
@@nuts319 there will be if you are around qoods and the country someone is burning firewood
I bet the tree fort you picked up off the ground from a deer hunter started all this rot!😅
Possible
Pete, I don't catch every video (sorry!) any hats available?
I have a few
How do I order?
Nevermind, figured it out!
You never know . Till you cut it / When it hits the ground , You wil know everything .
There goes the chsin
👍👍
A forest logged every ten will be healthier than one every 20 to 30
Most grubs turn into June bugs or a type of Beatles haven’t seen logger Wade post a video for ever he must have got burned out on the RUclips
Grubs grow long hair and play rock and roll music?
Lighting hit when the tree was young. To bad.
