"ONE TURNS 18 AND WHAT IS NEXT..." 💙 A SYMBOLIC ACTION BY THE ERBUD FOUNDATION

18 minutes. This is how long a solidarity action of being frozen lasted on the Central Railway Station to support children of orphanages. Almost 40 people froze motionless as a sign of solidarity with children from orphanages. Each person had a mask with an image of a non-existent boy, generated by AI as a synthesis of the faces of over a hundred people under the care of the ERBUD Foundation.
This action lasted exactly 18 minutes - a number symbolizing getting adult, while the Central Station was a symbol of setting off. In addition to the ERBUD employees and foundation volunteers, the campaign was supported by: Katarzyna Bujakiewicz, Damian Michałowski and Maciej Musiał, as well as passers-by who joined the action voluntarily.
The president of the ERBUD Foundation, Lucyna Grzeszczak: At the foundation, we call it the "freezing syndrome", so the paralyzing fear of adulthood and independence our pupils experience. We have been helping them as much as we can for years, but this group is completely out of the public discourse. We all support little kids, but they are growing up. They don’t disappear, but have a huge problem in becoming independent and functioning normally in our society: finding a job, a place to live, starting a family. We wanted to make this topic present with this flashmob happening in the center of the capital.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office, in 2022, 2,077 children over the age of18 left care and educational institutions (so-called orphanages). The lack of proper preparation causes them to return to their families and dysfunctional environments. The primary goal of the project at the central station was to collect 1.5% taxes for the ERBUD Foundation and to sign the petition of the Good Initiatives Foundation amending the Act on family support and the foster care system.
