So glad. Young singers/screamers kill their instruments so early on in their careers singing with unhealthy technique. It''s always great to see them turn things around when they start working with an experienced coach. It's not like the talent wasn't there. It's that he wasn't equipped to protect his voice from the demands he was putting on it. It's really sad when they kill their voices beyond repair.
You can actually tell that he’s screaming the correct way. It actually feels good and relaxed. It’s just insanely difficult to hit notes consistently while you’re doing that level of distortion.

I was never really a big fan of BMTH, but this whole 'voice loss & selling-out' thing intrigued me, so I sat down and listened to their whole catalogue. From what I've heard on those records, the only thing the singer didn't master quite yet is breathing (ironically, that's one of the most important things in the 'trade').
Oliver gave us his hole heart, he gave us everything of him, he gave us his only instrument as a beautiful gift; his voice. Sykes putted every part of himself in every song, in every fan, every time that he sang in that way. It didn't matter if it was in a concert or in a recorded song, he always gave everything. Can´t be less than unforgettable. And now, Oli lost that voice, for the love at music and his way to getting out of control. I support them from the bottom of my heart, even with the changes, they keep goin in myself.
Can confirm, saw them a few weeks ago and it was phenomenal, his screams sounded great and healthy, dudes also that committed that when he did damage his vocals, he got surgery and vocal coaching to fix it and scream properly, it shows too would 100% recommend seeing them live
Before I say anything, I love these guys and oli has one of the greatest vocals in this scene, but I've heard much more emotion from other voicalists, Charlie Holmes, Derek Archambault, Jordan Dreyer etc :D

BabyBlueEyes it's actually called "fry screams". It's done by straining your throat instead of the inhales which he use to do. He's just fine, they've recently played Pray For Plagues live so if it's damaged so badly he wouldn't be able to preform the songs or wouldn't even want too.
people keep talking about his "ruined vocal cords", not taking into account that Sempiternal is produced to hell. listen to Even If You Win, You're Still A Rat by Architects featuring Oli. His voice sounds a lot different and that's because it's not as produced yet it's still in a studio environment. Until very recently he never had a serious vocal problem and it was something that could've happened to any singer, it's resolved now. If you look at recent live shows they've even started to perform a version of Antivist with a more deathcore style of screaming. His vocals are fine, they've just progressed as a band (although I wouldn't call That's The Spirit progression..)

I remember first hearing Shadow Moses a little over 3 years ago. I had never listened to Bring Me The Horizon much before and was never into the whole "Deathcore" thing (always listened to Metal, Metalcore, Thrash, etc.), but Sempiternal was an amazing album. Still their best. This song turned me onto them.

I had never listened to Bring Me The Horizon much before and was never into the whole "Deathcore" thing (always listened to Metal, Metalcore, Thrash, etc.), but Sempiternal was an amazing album.
