The bass comes through fucking quality. Got most of this gig on vhs somewhere taped off granada. If I remember right they interview some of the crowd outside.
firstly my fave mondays tune, this clip is in the height of 'Madchester', how mashed were they when on stage, and still banged it out, 'ave a look and see how tightly packed the crowd are, hardly any room to dance about, Quality! love 'em.
Seen the mondays on a sunday when I was 15-missed the last train home, walked 10 miles home on the motorway -dodging cops all the way-true story wheres me prize?
I was there 3 days shy of my 18th birthday, top night though I got in the shit off my then girlfriend as a girl I had copped off with at The Boardwalk the weekend before came up to me in the queue 🤣👊 Happy days x
Joel robertson capo 1st fret. Intro has lotsa open strings but sounds like it goes between F7 and some variation of Bb7 (relative to capo I play x-0-2-0-0-x) before the main riff if does something like F7-fm-Bb7) then the riff is built around fm7 with root note on 8th fret. I have it something like this (not relative to capo): x-8-10-8-11-8 x-8-10-8-9-8 x-8-10-8-9-10 x-8-10-8-9-11 Listen for the rhythm here, he plays the first 2 lines a few times before mixing in the notes on the high e. That’s just my interpretation but hope it helps!
Joel robertson no worries on lockdown and getting really into some of these early mondays songs, the first 2 albums are just pure class. I think I almost have do it better worked out too. The peel session version is essential
@@hippriest9448 same bro, alot of time on me hands to try and depict squirrel and G man now. Also any help with some chords for olive oil would be ace, put together a little tab, but needs a little more depth
Joel robertson will definitely take a shot at that one soon. I’m so wrapped up in do it better right now, I pretty much have it but it’s so fun to play I just can’t stop. It’s the only thing keeping me sane right now haha. If you want those let me know, the guitar riff is much more audible on the peel session version, I wish they didn’t drown it out in the album version but I heard they had their reasons
Hmmm - Guitarist Mark Day AKA knobhead/cowhead as good as he was he chose to retire from the business,he's got a regular job and not pennyless, don't think he carried the band on his own - gaz wheelan (top drummer) X is an amazing songwriter & Bez top vibes & Paul Ryders funky Bass lines we're mega back in the day.
In Shaun's book he said Mark Day was always complaining that what they did wasn't a real job, he was always obsessed with having a real job that had a pension at the end of it, the dude obviously had a good work ethic but definitely had zero ambition
coolest Mondays song ever
paul ryder - underrated bassist
