It's shame this ship fell by the wayside, it had pretty much everything the empire could've asked for in a fighter. I reckon this would have worked well alongside the Tie Defender if the Avenger was used as a strike fighter. Along side other craft like the Tie Hunter the Avenger would certainly provide some interesting what if scenarios if they had gone into full production. The Rebels would definitely have been on the back foot then.

Totally agree. If the Empire would've pooled all their resources together, they could've done some incredible things. A lot of the cool ships and technology never made it past the initial testing/prototype stages. Sad for sure.

That's why Thrawn made such progress defending the Empire, while Moff Tarkin fought an uphill battlw against the Rebel Alliance. The "Tarkin Doctrine" is most likely what led the Rebels to gather and become such a powerful faction (imho).
Had Thrawn been given leadership sooner (and not removed from the galaxy when he was) we would have had a very different looking trilogy... 🤔

Strip out the hyperdrive _to reduce the cost,_ and use the extra space and weight for even more shielding or extra ordinance.
Extra ordinance could be the cheaper and more flexible option, as it would allow the Avenger to do harder hitting attack runs.
That could be a more mainstream fighter, as the Empire didn't like the idea of regular single seat pilots having a hyperdrive equipped ship - that could encourage them to abscond with their ship.
The hyperdrive equipped models could be used by elite pilots that are absolutely trustworthy, for use with Hunter/Killer teams and as a fleet escort 'combat air patrol' that can jump in (and out) with the fleet so that some fighters are already launched when a ISD arrives in potential hot zone.
And the elite pilots would be providing overwatch for the non hyperdrive models in mixed combat missions when bombing or torpedoing targets.
With their hyperdrives they can also afford to mix it up with enemy fighters and hang back to allow the non hyperdrive fighters to be docked, then if necessary jump out under their own power.

  • @midgetydeath

I think it was less looking for quality over quantity and more that the Empire’s military-industrial complex had caught up to demand and now was able to field high quality in massive numbers. The best of both worlds.

this is an awesome fighter. it really is a shame it wasn't made in mass production since this is a rather effective ship and I honestly like it far more than the TIE Advanced. while it's no where near as amazing as the TIE Defender nor as sneaky as the TIE Phantom, this is still a fantastic ship that I wish was featured more in the movies & games as well as actual merchandise like toy ships (same with the other TIE variants).

Hi! Don't take it as a tease. But I don't think the height of 7.2 meters is right. If we take that, how are the rest.
    TIE/In: 8.82
    TIE/D: 8.7
    TIE IN: 5.3
    TIE/X1: 3.8
    TIE/SA Bomber: 5.1
So I would rather approach the height of 5 meters.

  • @midgetydeath

It probably would have been better without the hyperdrive and tractor beam and with enhanced engines. Those two devices are just too expensive. Give it another decade to where the industry advanced enough to make it affordable to mass produce such toys. Yes, the Rebellion used such things a lot, but the Rebellion was small and entirely reliant on hit and fade strikes. The missile boat and a new generation of gunboat based on it working together would be far more effective or an evolved Missile Boat with fewer missiles and more guns to merge both into something greater to cut costs by not having to buy and maintain two distinct machines.

Zarin rebelling is pretty nonsensical. Aside from having no reason to, he’s surrounded by people fanatically loyal to Palpatine (no one else would be allowed on such secret projects, let’s face it). He has no way to rebel, no way to succeed, and no way to not be instantly wasted by the rest of the Imperial military if he did succeed in dethroning Palpatine. And with how the Imperial system worked, no one so moronic would have had such a rank in the first place.
