They are actually saying Omulongo baba, she's singing about someone she has a crush on. The word 'Omulongo' can be translated as twin, twins in the Kiganda tradition are considered a good omen, and the term is therefore commonly used as a term of endearment for an especially special someone. However you are right; there're loads of similarities in between the different bantu languages and I think it would be a good idea to have a kind of comparative linguistic studies class of these. The reason for saying this is because, about 3yrs ago I discovered that the language I grew up speaking was like a blatant code of existential inference, where every word is framed like a parable with a distinct narrative that conveys the essence of what is spoken or being meant. For example, the word body (which might sound familiar in Swahili, although I'm not sure) in Luganda is; Omubiri. This is a combination of two words, Omu which translates to; 1 person. And Biri, which translates to just the number 2. So, loosely and directly translated the word body means 1 person is 2 or 2 in 1. Bearing in mind that Body for a living person (Omubiri) is different from a Dead Body (Omulambo); which, apart from the Omu for 1 person, I can't really comment on the rest (lambo) as I'm not sure of it's denotation, which with both combined would give a deeper connotation. I'm more than certain it has one. There are so many words I've come across that bare the pattern of a code; either in combination with another word or in pronunciation to convey an existential inference. Another example, the word for a student; Omuyizi is exactly the same word for a hunter; Omuyizi but when used for a student the pronunciation is softer than for hunter. What I found most interesting is when I considered the traits of a hunter, like: alert, watchful, keen, patient and bold. The point of my whole rant is that I have spoken the language all my life but never paid attention to its structure (as am sure most people from all cultures do), but it blew me away to realise the amount of attention given to essential meaning and existential inference with minimal conceptualisation. I mean, the word for Soul; Omwoyo, loosely translated is; 'The person that is in 'there', bearing in mind that one only says 'oyo' when referring to another person though pointing in physical identification. There are parables in all these words and it would be nice to unlock them all, or at least most of them. I'm sure we could learn a lot. It's also interesting that these observations were made from an English vantage point, English as a language being analytical, conceptual and descriptive in nature. I suppose colonialism wasn't all bad after all. Anyway, hope you weren't overwhelmed by my little speech. God bless
