I don't feel like he thought Alan was ridiculous, I think Mark was just caught off guard and curious. Both perspectives make sense at the end of the day, the content from both creators is about asking questions.
Basically I don't think Alan was "called out", I think Mark was surprised that anyone would think of their subscriber count as their qualifier for talking to him, when he says that he cares more about individuals instead of how they are viewed. He never said Alan did anything wrong, and I'm sure he didn't mean for it to be taken that way.
What I was expecting: AvG team sharing their perspective in like a 5 minute segment, passing it off as just one of those socially awkward life moments and then moving on What this video is: half an hour of AvG Team thoroughly dissecting what happened and trashing on Mark. In other news get yourself a bro who stands up for you the way DJ stands up for Alan. I agree Mark meant no ill intent but it was fair for the guys to call him out on it
Yeah it was just a misunderstanding, mark saw it as Alan presenting his metrics for validation/points with him, but it was just Alan explaining who he was because he’s not as recognizable~
I actually have selective mutism- I think the things that help me the most are my cats, my stuffed animals, and my friends- Especially my friends, even my online ones. A new thing that helps me, is knowing that I can relate to youtubers I really like. Thank all of you for being so amazing.
I just want to point something out as a good rule of thumb: Just because you see someone you are familiar with or even someone you just want to get to know, that doesn't automatically mean you "have to" go and meet them/introduce yourself. It doesn't matter if you are a fan of them or you do something similar as them. What does matter is if you have something to say. Cause if you don't and instead are just going in blind, it's always going to end awkwardly, no matter who you are nor how charismatic you are. In this day and age, there is this weird parasocial paradigm where if we see an opportunity, we feel as if we absolutely have to push for it, no matter how sensible it is to do so. If I know there is relativity between me and another person, my go-to is to try and use that as a means to form a question. This is called an ice breaker. If you don't have that (a way to start a topic for a back-and-forth talking point) then the conversation's just not going to go anywhere, which means, yeah, it will end awkwardly.
This is such a fascinating conversation to listen to as a non-youtuber. In basically every other industry, when you meet members of that industry you're supposed to present your credentials or your "elevator pitch". It's usually the second question people ask after your name. (I'm in accounting/finance btw so that might skew my perspective a bit)
I agree, I don’t think Mark had to name Alan in the video, it *was* an embarrassing moment and precisely *who* it was wasn’t all that relevant to the anecdote. This was a good video format for Alan to give his side, acknowledge the misstep from both sides, and vent some of the awkwardness away. And the rest of the lads standing up for Alan is nice to see. Although I think DJ may have needed the de-stressing of power washing more than Alan honestly, being angry on Alan’s behalf.
I kinda understand both side of the story. Mark has a point as well as dj. I just don't think anyone owes an explaination to each other mental disorders. If we do it will look like "mark should've been thoughtful that this person has social anxiety and he could've been more careful." And "Dj could've been more understanding 'cause mark has adhd and his conduct behavior is affected from time to time."
Its not just an ADHD thing though. Mark had to consciously put thought into what he said, not only in the video but he must have put some thought into it beforehand too. It's not just some hyperactive blunder
DUDE DJ is so WHOLESOME. Love you guys. Alan you're doing great, I've watched animator and animation since I was a kid and played the game too (and never really watched mark), many of us here like me have social anxiety or awkward and we can go through all of this cause we are KINGS.👑👑👑
Seeing all of my favorite comfort content creators playing together is a dream come true, glad to see skip the tutorial was here, hope to see more videos like this
So I get that DJ was trying to defend his friend and I totally get that when someone is insulting your friend that you get a lot more angry on their behalf than if it happened to you but I feel like he was being a little harsh and trashing on Mark I know that Mark probably had no malicious intent behind sharing that story and though I do wish he didn't sort of call Alan out like that just cause he's been a RUclipsr for a long time doesn't mean he's exempt from making mistakes or not knowing someone's situation I hope that they also don't have this bad image of Mark now, he is a pretty down-to-earth and nice guy but he's also socially awkward and isn't perfect when interacting with other people either
Yeah, understandably mark has been used to hate. He even said hate doesn’t faze him at all, I get that people don’t know what people go through, but it doesn’t mean they automatically have it out for you. Alan started with, ‘I have 9 million subs' that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing but no one has introduced themselves to mark like that, he was just using Alan with the quote he said for an example for like people he thinks the amount of subs they have is what they will get to even talk to people. Mark said it himself he doesn’t care if you have 12 or 30 million subs if your interesting he’ll talk to you. All Alan did was just say hi with his subscribers which of course made him stand out. Both perspectives have a good point on calling each other out, but I hate to say it mark didn’t say how stupid Alan was and he really didn’t know who he was, but for di and the guys to just trash on mark because he doesn’t know what Alan is going through really doesn’t make their situation better for me. I love mark but he can speak openly to where what he says sound mean but he really doesn’t mean for it. What the guys say is good too but there was no need for them to just be mean to mark… But whatever, I still love both these guys and mark
Its understandable on both sides, thought I do think that Mark shouldn't have directly called Alan out on it. Alan made a bit of a blunder, which as someone with social anxiety I can totally relate to, and I can see how it could be misconstrued as him being somewhat conceited even when that wasn't his intention at all. But like I said before, he shouldn't have called Alan out specifically.
I'm so glad you guys did this I really appreciated hearing Alan's side I really didn't think that Mark would name-drop like that and that was really unnecessary so I'm sorry he did that Alan Tbh when I heard that from Mark it painted Alan in a very bad light for me and I felt bad because I've been following Alan and his work from the very first Animator vs. Animation and I didn't think he was the type to be big on numbers or really egotistical so I'm glad he's not. He's just a socially awkward guy which is totally understandable So I'm happy to learn what went on from Alan's side and address the misinformation I sincerely hope Mark watches this and clears up the misunderstanding
I just wanted to say to you guys that I really appreciated this video, more specifically the part where alan is talking about how he has the social anxiety. I, just like him, deal with this thing, and i thought i was, like, weird or something for not talking to people and being a part of a big group like other high schoolers i see are. It’s really reassuring to see that someone like alan also has this type of thing and that even with it he can become something as iconic as he is
Them joking around, on what if people might investigate who RUclipsr has 19 million subscribers.. now, me looking Alan's sub count.. Congrats on reaching 20million subs! WOOHOO! 🎉🎉
Man this was an amazing episode of avg loved all the interaction and I remember thinking about what Mark was saying and not fully trusting in his understanding of the situation I hope he didn't mean anything about it and I hope he sees this video and calls himself an evil villian ( cause he would probably do that anyway).
It was so sad hearing Alan has a social anxiety. I don't have it but I also get that feeling sometimes with other people, it was so awkward and whenever I look back to it I feel uncomfortable and like I regret saying that. As some one that watched the full mark vid I don’t think mark had any I’ll intentions and in the past he has brought up other weird experiences with fans (ex. A long long time ago there was this little boy that pushed his face into marks pecs) and he knows that he has a big fan base and has said that he can’t have real connections with people because of the worries of them in it for the clout. I do get it tho social anxiety is a really difficult thing that effects even the smallest interactions like buying something it can be nerve racking to do it the first few times but it gets easier! For mark I do think he was kinda nervous about how Alan introduced himself i mean if you were a big actor and a smaller actor came up to you and said “I’m so and so and I’ve stared in 35 movies!” You’d be like uh okay that’s cool mark was saying it was odd because he probably didn’t realize Alan had social anxiety and problems talking to others. Mark should’ve worded the experience differently yes but I do think DJ shouldn’t have put mark in the bad! It sound like it was awkward for both mark and Alan since the story’s both line up, at least mark didn’t say “this small RUclipsr was trying to gloat and then realized I was better then him!!” And it good Alan wasn’t like “ mark is a bad guy and RUclipsr because he said I gave him a weird experience at vid con!!” Both stories are valid and I see no one as the bad guy! I understand social anxiety because I have it so please don’t come for me Edit: I know they are making a joke of it
Haha Skim's a good editor I really hope people don't harass Mark Can we all just move on it was like such a minor thing Also not James walking by the ladder like 3 times and then being like "tHey DidN't giVe Us a LadDer"

Hey make James play shotgun king the final checkmate
I feel so bad for alan....also just today out teacher was telling us DONT LIVE BY OTHER PEOPLES COMMENTS so.......ur the bestt
Haha Skim's a good editor
I really hope people don't harass Mark
Can we all just move on it was like such a minor thing
Also not James walking by the ladder like 3 times and then being like "tHey DidN't giVe Us a LadDer"
POV: you're looking gor a comment by Mark
And do it SOOTHINGLY AND GOOD
Mark LITERALLY SAID he was not calling him out, it was like the first fucking thing he said
Saying "I'm not calling anyone out", and then proceeding to *specifically* call someone out, doesn't mean you aren't calling someone out.
skims amazingly funny go team skim!
