Great video. HAM operator here who knows a little bit about coaxial antennas. For the optimum reception with the 70% velocity factor of RG179 coax and the 2.44 GHz center frequency of the XP Deus the exact measurement should be 2.15 cm. Then upbraid the shield 2.15 cm and fold it back with a total length of 4.3 cm.Then put a 5 cm small heat shrink your good to go.
I did this recently, just used some old printer cable cord. I didnt run it up the shaft, which is neater. The aerial even brought signal to my ws4s, worked well at the beach. Then a nice person gave me the official xp kit :)
That's a kool Modification you made Glyn and works excellent, I also like the way it can just be taken off if not needed. Hope to do some water detecting once I get my scoop sent through :-) ATB GL & HH LittleJohn Metal Detecting
Thanks John, It will just be nice going out and only having to put one detector in the car knowing it can handle anything. I will just leave the mod on mine, it's not a lot of extra weight lol, but if you wanted to just run it up the outside of the shaft few bits of tape, and ya done, easy on easy off. ATB Buddy.
Thanks Buddy, I am still using it and it works flawlessly, however i did a modification, instead of the wire coming out the end of the shaft at the coil bolt, I drilled a hole just above where the bolt is and brought the wire out through there, I was finding that the wire was getting pinched and wearing through coming out off the end. ATB mate.
Now that is a fantastic mod! I'm going to give it a shot. Well done mate. I'm very impressed. Now you need to invent an alternative to the charging clip! Mine broke last week. Keep up the good work. From a Brit in Canada to a Brit down under! Kev
Thanks for watching and your encouraging comments, sorry to hear about your charging clip, but you should be able to pick one of those up pretty cheap, But if mine ever breaks? then be sure that i will have a go a making my own and share in a video. Good luck and take it easy, Brit in Canada lol.
Gaday Glen nice work mate I was wondering would an ordinary wire do I got some it’s called Coax cable but no braiding Just copper wire with a tiny yellow bit coated wire inside Do think would do same mate Cheers Crouch
G Day mate, that's what I did to start with, but I got fed up redoing it, now i just have it taped on so i can bend the wire out of the way and leave it all taped up to charge. GL&HH
And your wire is much shorter than stock. I had assumed that the stock length was adjusted to tune to a frequency (like an antenna) so that it shouldn't be shortened. But your idea seems to dispute that. So if one only wanted to wade, say knee deep, no reason the stock wire could not be shortened?
The Deus coil is a transmitter and the head unit is a receiver, the coil cant transmit through water so the wire acts as the air if you like. I did a little experimenting and didn't make any difference on the length of the wire. Also i did a modification, instead of the wire coming out the end of the shaft at the coil bolt, I drilled a hole just above where the bolt is and brought the wire out through there, I was finding that the wire was getting pinched and wearing through coming out off the end. Brilliant stuff mate! Thank you 👍
Looks 👍

Could you explain the meaning of upbraid? Which part is 2.15cm, and which is 4.3cm?
That is just brilliant, all the way around! Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Awesome tutorial! Thank you!

Love the cable mod. Might have to do mine like that
Hey Rob, So easy to do mate and worth every Penny, It turns my Deus into a even better machine. ATB mate

Nice demo Glyn. Hell I'd watch you if you were doing a pooper scooper mod..😆
lol.... look out for the all new Pooper Scooper Ha Ha. Cheers Tony.
With a remote pin point switch :)
Ripper thank you mate
Appreciated! Good job man, I like it, I like it a lot 👍🏼
Well Done.. I like it :)
But what about charging. Every time when need to charge than take tape away???

Quite possibly it would mate, just give it a go and run it on the outside first. Good Luck.

Cheers have you done a video co vetting head phones into xp deus ones
@@xxyxnxwxaxx9724 No mate sorry. Happy Hunting
Where u buy the mounting for waterproof case to shaft?
It came with the Deus mate, if you didn't get one check out eBay or maybe ask around on the Facebook groups, Good luck.
So I assume you just remove and redo the coil tape to charge it.

Thanks. You've opened a whole new approach.
What’s the brand of water proof case you have? Are they on e bay? Thanks
