- Hello this is the old "antti2", some of you know me from these "made by antti" videos I have made in the past five years. I made a new account to upload this new tribute to Henri as it could be my last, at least for a long time.

@@Wolf-zs9vc Yes those cars were like missiles in 1986. Lancia Delta S4 even beat formula-1 cars at that year in dry tarmac and the competition was who can do it fastest from 0-100 km/h. Lancia did it in incredible time 2,2 seconds. Think about it for a while, 2,2 seconds!
@@Jaska8000 Without power steering, three pedals and a stick. WRC greats span the generations, but the titans of Group B were literal Gods.

Henri's father, also a rally champion, told Henri to focus on rallying because of several fatal accidents in F1 and other track sports. Maybe if Toivonen went another way and chose to compete in formula cars we'd have a Finn champ between Rosberg and Häkkinen. It woud've been amazing, Toivonen, Senna and Prost at late -80's.

True legends will never be forgotten.
In two days 33 years have gone but still Henri and Sergio are still with us, in our hearts. just like Ayrton. Heroes of our times. RIP
@phxxr650r The fans back then were not aware of the risks, a lot of fans lost fingers when trying to touch the cars. The problem was that the teams were pushing their drivers beyond the limit and Henri had a bad cold, he should had stayed in bed.
@@Finne72 I don't think that was the reason but it was a problem. I dont think there was any fans or spectators on the scene but the tire marks did indicate that there may have been a failure on the car. Unfortunately it burned up too badly to ever find out. Not to mind that Lancia liked to cut corners regardless of safety. I.E. fuel tank under the driver and co pilot.
now in 2023 and just 2 month again it will 2024, i can say he is true legend and never forgotten, RIP a legend.
13 years later and it's still the most beautiful tribute to our great rally hero.....

Henri drove for Eddie in F3..Eddie maintains to this day that Henri would have been a multiple GP winner if he chose to remain circuit racing instead of going rallying,,as EJ says in this vid "He had this unbelievable natural talent"!!!!.....
He was almost outdriving Senna in F3, even if he just drove for fun

From an Italian seemingly low-budget Group B documentary "C'era una volta il Gruppo B". Also took the clip of Toivonen leaving for the last stage from that documentary. Viewing the stage start area on Google Street View, it's most likely the same camera man who filmed the smoke rising behind the mountains who filmed the start a few minutes earlier.

A friend posted this on Facebook today, May 2nd 2011, the 25th anniversary of Henri's untimely death. I've not seen the video before. What a superb compilation of clips, masterfully edited and set to great music. I particularly liked the shot of Henri spraying the champagne timed with the guitar solo in Queen's 'The Show Must Go On'. Well done on creating this wonderful tribute, and many thanks indeed for sharing it with us. RIP Henri and Sergio.

Lancia 037... What a machine. One of the final RWD "Widowmakers" able to beat the invading AWD Audi's and do it in such Italian beauty and finesse. And the Delta S4? That car was just a pure monster.. Can't say i'm surprised it happened in a Delta S4...
The *only* 2wd car to ever beat the Quattro. A truly magnificent feat of automotive engineering.
@@bavarianbanshee Absolutely correct. A beautiful upset of driver + machine + engineering = perfection. It was breathtaking, I wish I was alive to witness it.
Eh... if you look at the history, there was a lot of shady tactics to take that 037 to the win over the Audi's...but it's still the sexiest Rally Car ever.

Se me saltan las lágrimas cada vez que q veo un vídeo d este pedazo piloto y su desafortunado final... Lo duro q debió d ser para todos, ufff. Sabía poco d él y fui viendo más vídeos pero éste es mi favorito desd hoy, excelentes temas d Queen y Gun's y excelente repaso a la trayectoria frustrada demasiado pronto d un campeón del mundo en potencia. 33 años ya desde q se fue para hacer quizá, d ángel d la guarda d otros pilotos y sus libradas increíbles..., DEP para él y x supuesto su desafortunado copi q tampoco pudo librarse. He was leading the rally with a huge several minutes marginal. But then again he had influenza and fever and was clearly fatiged in his final interview about 30 minutes before the accident. Rumours tell he was medicated with pseudoefedrin at that morning. Maybe he was in fairly good condition but gas-pedal stucked. His team-mate died a year earlier also in Corsica. It was considered to be a problem with gas pedal. Lancia had problems with stucking gas pedal at test drives during winter too but no one died luckily.
most tribute videos in my opinion has the soul of the person from who is it made from. this definitely has the soul of Henri Toivonen

I always admired Henri's style of driving when i saw him win in UK lombard rally I thought he was going to write history but never thought it would be for tragedy he reminds me of Lewis Hamilton in a way that he just loves to race and win no matter how much hardship gets in his way RIP Henri

i agree . henri and sergio was a artists in a wrong playing platform. these times a rally is too long for a normally person , because special stage is approx 60 km, and one day special stages is 12 *60 = 720 km .

About that getting boring thing - that was my first thought when I came across this video - "what new could I possibly see in another Toivonen tribute video". But when I actually watched this I was really surprised as there was nothing boring about it at all. There is something like a storyline, there's some new footage for me, the music is chosen perfectly to give the right feeling to the video. Max respect, Antti, this is awesome!

Teabag McPick I mean, rear engined porsches have really good traction on loose surfaces comparing conventional front engined rear wheel drive cars, and the understeer can be combatted by throttle feathering.
@@bradman7281 This is undoubtedly true & yet still, in the entire history of everything & everyone - Porsche don't have much to shout about in Rally honours lists. I'm just saying that given a free choice to go do any rally, who would pick Porsche over say, literally any other manufacturer? I love Porsche Le Mans cars of all eras. They are untouchable in their domination of endurance racing. Fair play to them for giving it a go, but rallying just ain't their bag.
Teabag McPick we’ll never know. The 959 was supposed to compete on group B, but the sport died before it ever got the chance.

Teabag McPick I think it's more because Porsche lacked any real drivers who could handle a Porsche off-road. Having the engine at the back also places the center of gravity at the back, which makes it extremely prone to snap oversteer, as well as lift off oversteer, and at the same time the lack of weight at the front produces understeer. While this two may seem like the cancel each other, they also make the card both predictable and unpredictable. Add the constantly changing terrain and you've got a car only a God could drive to its fullest. I agree that Porsche has not found success in rallying, but I think it was the result of both the car's quirks and the incompatibility of the drivers.
