Nice comparison. If it takes 3 "cheap cans" to get as much paint as one quality can, are the cheap cans really cheap? I mainly do furniture and lighting builds (just watch you guys for fun and inspiration), and have started using graffiti cans for furniture and pretty much everything because you only need one coat -- they save time and money!

True but it still is more costly since you need the additional paint, while the better cans don't require that.

I’ve learned 1thing from art, pricey doesn’t mean quality, and quality is not always the most expensive supplies.
There are zero graffiti shops where I live, all we have for paint choices is the local Wal-mart. The problem with that is that the $1 cans now ONLY come in black or white, no other colors for that price. The next step up is around $5 per can, then it jumps to $10 - $15 per can.

That sounds like my part of Canada, just WalMart/Canadian Tire/ Home Depot/ and Home Hardware, and the cheapest paint is $4 cad but its just Rusto Quick Color that only comes im Blk or White, then $7 for stuff like Painters Choice and equivalent, so if you're lazy or graffiti brand paint is all sold out then it still works if you have to use it, but I'll be damned if I ever pay more for shit tier paint than graffiti brand paint.

Having recently switched from regular cans to graffiti cans I have to say there is no comparison. The graffiti spray is opaque, regular cans are not. Unless you layer some of them multiple times. And, graffiti cans are much less expensive, especially if you buy in bulk. The specialized caps also make a huge difference.

Pink dot tops are super fast. A normal bomb in stock tips takes 20 min. Pink dot makes that same bomb done in less than 2 minutes. I know from experience. The more you do the samething over and over, the faster you can throw it up until eventually it takes only minutes for big bombs.

I live in the US, and personally I use the very cheap $1 paint for sketching and blocking out a black background. Of course it's also fine for bombing as a fill-in color. A normal wall piece usually needs 3-4 cans to give me a solid black background, which is much cheaper than even the cheapest bucket of house paint (emulsion), and I don't have to carry a pail of paint and roller to the spot. It's not very good for making lines or cutting back, because it tends to skip and stutter instead of making a solid spray line. Good spray paint brands are really expensive in the US, usually 2x the price of Rustoleum or 7x the price of a bargain can. I tend to use Rustoleum paint for filling, even though you can't use normal caps on them, and European paint for outlines and detail work.
I should also add that most of the Rustoleum colors behave very similar to that blue or black. American dark blue is always shit, yellow and orange are unusable, red in always transparent, and white is usually about the same as that gray you used. It sells for about $4 USD. Up until about 2001, that was the only thing American writers had. In 2007 or so Rusto switched to a female cap, so you can't even use good caps with it anymore. They have adapters, but they don't spray the same.

Here’s the thing in Australia, Molotow cans in some parts retail for $20 per can, it is not always easy to access cans such as ironlak, MTN or any other artistic aerosol. We can mail order paint but this pushes up the price again as aerosols are seen as dangerous goods. So we use the cheapest cans we can get. Yes they don’t give good coverage but are you really going to waste big amounts of money on paint that is not going to make a week before being buffed? Legal graffiti walls here in Australia are few and far between and nonexistent outside of capital cities.

Doke, in the US (San Deigo) we have Rustoleum (Home Depot) and Krylon (Lowe's). Rustoleum is a thicket paint and Krylon is thinner. I started my graff with these and experienced many drips. Once I found Montana cans, the dry time was shorter and the drips were greatly reduced. I also noticed that the hardware (inexpensive) paint took multiple coats. Thanks for making this video. Also, the $1.00 cans are enamel, which does not mix well with acrylic paint. (you might already know this, but I wanted to share my 2 cents with you)

So here in Puerto Rico there are no graffiti cans. You can't fly cans here, they have to come on a boat and it's just not cost effective. So all of the artists use cheap ass Rusto. There is graffiti everywhere here and there are a lot of beautiful pieces. They make do with what they have. You can get mostly the same results, you just have to work twice as hard.
Not to take away from your channel, but Green Ranger on the Art Primo channel does a lot of these kind of challenges using high end and low end paints. It's pretty cool to watch.
Also, I love being able to watch you grow and progress with your art and skills. A combination of being surrounded by graffiti on Puerto Rico, Green Ranger, and your channel got me back into graffiti so to you I say thanks!

Oh boi when i started doing graffiti ( about 17 years ago ) there was no Montana cans or any graffiti cans in my country so we were using the cheap auto spray cans witch are good for car/metal painting but not for graffiti ( btw they are more expensive cuz of the metalics in the pain ) and the leap in quality of our art when we finally had access to graffiti cans and more importantly to CAP's was like 5 years ahead. I remember that we got our hands on a skinny cap from a guy in a big and famous crew before anybody in my country had any idea this things exist and we were amazed how easy is to do details and outlines with it sadly it choked very fast :D Them a few years later graffiti art become very popular and many shops around town started stocking the good stuff and the art scene exploded

Here in the U.S. you can get very cheap cans of paint at Walmart but it's tough to decide if they are really worth it. A can of Walmart brand paint (Color Place is the name I think?) is like $1, or $1.50, but they don't cover very well. Rustoleum is about $3.50 and covers much better... so really it comes down to a few things:
    1. How much time do you have for painting multiple coats?
    2. Do you want to carry around more cans, or fewer cans?
Personally I think that it's not worth using the ultra-cheap cans unless you're just practicing. The cheapest paint that I will mess with is Rustoleum. I stay away from Krylon altogether. If you shop around you can buy good quality paint online for maybe a little bit more than you'd pay for Rustoleum at the store. For whites and blacks, Rusto is just fine and works well. For interesting and vibrant colors I'd go with your typical graff brands - Molotow, Montana, Flame, Ironlak, etc. For silver the best for bombing/piecing is the Molotow burner chrome, but the shiniest and most reflective chrome I've used is the Belton special chrome.
tl;dr - Yes, having quality supplies matters, but if you don't have the skills to properly use the better cans it doesn't really matter.

In my local graffiti store i can buy docs spray which are cheap and not designed for graffiti, some people buy that kind of spray in order to have a more "old school" style on their pieces

In my country proper graffiti cans are like, 30 bucks while the accrylic ones (whatever I can't spell it) are like, 15 bucks... Though most people around here don't really care. I personally think that you can achieve some cool effects with the crappy cans, it depends on the artist... But a well done graffiti with the good cans is just satisfying to look at

In the United States, we have Rustoleum in the hardware store, and the quality of the paint/the coverage is imo much better than most graffiti cans I've used. The only problem is the valves! a few years back rustoleum switched to a male valve system so you can't use graffiti caps on them anymore!

Painting with non-graffiti cans is a matter of surface for me, mostly such cans are good for objects made of metal, not the wall like in the video, but i think those used on fills and outline did a good job. Pricing is a matter of finding a good occasion mostly in the net, you can get non graff cans for like 1,50 euro. There are good and bad sides so it really goes about how many cans you can buy, you can have more cheaper ones or less the good ones. Peace frpm Poland!

If you paint with a white, or a light grey on a black wall, or some dark color it will always have to get painted twice, before it covers... because of the contrast, for example, if you want to cover with a yellow paint on a black wall you can paint it quick with white first then it covers better 😉

We have cans here that are just $1 and sometimes cheaper. Better quality non graffiti cans cost around $2.5 which are quite good and have a good coverage. The only graffiti cans here are from MTN and Montana which are around $6.5 . Surprisingly when i visited China once there were cans that just costed $0.2 !
