Watch the original episode: • HELLUVA BOSS - THE FUL...
Added point - if you consider Blitzo's childhood as part of a family circus and the way he operates IMP... he doesn't draw a real distinction between "work" and "family". He simply has no reason to see transaction and personal connections as separate spheres. Quite the opposite really, especially given his father. His thought as a child was "I like you, I will hire you".
So not only does Blitzo not understand that it's possible for somebody to love him... the idea that one would sever a transactional relationship as a way to improve a personal relationship is going to be entirely alien to him.
Meanwhile, Stolas: "Surely all the romantic literature I've read wouldn't steer me wrong, they've worked so far!"
This is such a good point I never would've considered!
Oh wow great point; I hadn't thought of that! Totally agree though.
And another aspect of the "work is family" dynamic Blitzø works under: when Stolas says he wants the book back to keep and Blitz starts to panic, there's panic for the business, yes, and panic for the relationship, but there's also panic for his family. Millie, Moxy, and Luna *rely* on him having access to that book. The meal ticket isn't just his, it's theirs too. Letting himself down and failing himself is one thing, but we see time and again he doubles his efforts sometimes to the point of self-destruction when those negative consequences turn towards people he cares about, to the point of throwing himself in front of them as a shield.
Great point!
Can you believe it took this long for Bltzø, the character with the most screen time, to sing? And, no, I'm not counting "Truth Seekers", that was a hallucination.
@@ericjohnson6120 funny though the last time he got close to singing the episode also involved dhorks
That def doesn't count because that wasn't him singing
He was singing while driving the car in the Verosika episode (I forgot, was it Spring Breakers or Spring Broken?)
Brandon Rogers can't sing that's why
imagine if they save Blitz properly singing (he's part of a song here but he doesnt quite *sing*) for a really big moment and they just lean into him being bad at it. Like he sings really poorly but really heartfelt at the same time. that would hit me like a bus

The sort of tonal dissonance that Viv herself would totally approve of
@@Chasodey Random Legendaires are always good!
The tone shift is actually brilliant in this one, I think. We establish the conflict within the first couple minutes, take a long comedic break from it, and then when we cut to Stolas we are immediately placed back into the dread, only for Blitz to barrel in from the previous scene and obliviously drag comedic horny into the serious scene. It’s one of the few times I think the tonal dissonance of this show works in its favor
Yep, Blitz is 100% in this comedically horny mindset, because he doesn't have the same information or prepping as Stolas here. And we the viewers, and Blitz are blindsided by the tense tone
Exactly! It hammers down the isolation Stolas experiences too. The implication is he spend all day preparing for this confrontation, having him already be dressed and ready early in the morning, hell, he probably wouldn't have anything to do anyway, because he doesn't have people to DO stuff with. Meanwhile Blitzø has a lot going on, his work, his coworkers, his friendship with Fizz etc. And we see all that in this episode! We see the others making sure he's ok by fighting the angels, we see Fizz helping him have a good night. Stolas doesn't have that, no one NOTICED he wasn't ok.
@@herbatazimbirem4141 I am pretty sure his butlers noticed, there is just not much they could do (they might as well be feeling "emotional support for the boss is above my paygrade").
@gokbay3057 yeah while the palace staff probably likes him better than Stella I doubt Stolas even knows their names. We saw his main butler with a "not this shit again" look when Stolas made a mess with the fridge.
Although I bet whenever the staff gets together during a break they all gossip about the latest Stolitz drama
I had hoped with the way Skyen reacts he'd be balanced in this video, and I was correct! I'm so happy that he can see both sides when a shocking amount of people have been picking sides in an issue that is right and wrong on both sides because both people are hurt and flawed. It's a complex and beautiful illustration of how relationships are really like when there's problems.
Same. I'm glad he and (seems like) the comment section here are Normal™ about this. It's like people think that a story needs to have a 100% wrong villain and a 100% right hero. 😭 We are watching a soap opera, fellas, enjoy the melodrama and heightened emotions of it all.

skyen’s take on this whole episode and stolas & blitzø’s relationship - is BY FAR my favorite of any reactor’s!!! mostly because he takes the different perspectives into account, and goes really into depth with them. he sees the body language, sees the nuances, sees in stolas what blitzø couldn’t AND vice versa- amazing!!! i always try to share skyen’s videos with others because they are honestly such a gem
edit: also skyen, your reactions just give me a boost of serotonin sometimes LMAO keep being you!
Especially when a lot of the discourse around this episode and the next one has been about picking sides and throwing allegations of bias or hypocrisy which is SO not the point. The media illiteracy is staggering.
@@michi4066 exactly!! like, it’s perfectly OKAY to relate to one more than you do the other. but it has to be recognized that neither of them are perfect or great at handling this relationship. like skyen says, they *do* try in ways they think is good for the other, which is not always what they need. but how could they know any better, given how they grew up & how they hardly speak outside of the sex? how could they? and that’s the tragedy of it. and i loved that skyen put it that way
@@katchii93yes! Sadly some people don't seem to be able to get past the perspective they relate to more in this conflict. They just go "Well, I relate more to this character, so they're clearly in the right!" without even considering the other side. Which, tbh, really shows how realistic the conflict in the show really is, because that's how people react in real life as well
how is the majority of this episode contained to 40 minutes, and then the last like 5 minutes of the episode is 2 HOURS of review 😂
When this episode dropped, I got so annoyed with the fandom. Because this is the moment everyone started picking sides. There are no sides, this is a tangled ball of yarn. And in the attempt to untangle it, someone pulled the wrong string and caused a bunch of knots.
I love this analysis. You have such a good grasp on these characters. You put into words everything i see in this scene and more. So excited to see your reaction to the next episode.
"I'll knock this out in 20"
Had I not seen the runtime I would have thought that meant 20 hours lol
My first thoughts were "Does he mean hours or is he delusional (affectionate) again?"
He got through most of the episode in 40 min.... than spent 2 hours on the last scene xD
Exacly my thoughts
As we ALL did
This is one of the best examples, how you pull off a miscommunication. The Characters are set up enough, that you understand fully why the miscommunication occurs and the talk fails so miserably. Plus, they established the state of mind both of them are in in previous episodes and the beginning of this one. Brilliant character Drama.
The book and the transaction were both a barrier in their relationship and a crutch that Blitzo leaned on to avoid thinking about his feelings. Removing the book forced him to consider everything without any time to think.
Ironically, the transaction is a problem in their relationship, yet it’s also the only thing that allowed the relationship to get where it did in the first place. 📖💔
Like Skyen said: The book had to go if they wanted to have a more healthy and serious relationship, but neither of those two has the emotional intelligence to handle this properly.
33:13 This episode actually shows Blitz pays attention to what Stolas likes and dislikes, even if he doesn’t understand the messages Stolas sends him about his emotions. He’s trying his best to be considerate of what his partner would want because he wants to make sure he’s happy.
Especially since Verosika called him a selfish lover in ozzy’s club. He treats Stolas a little differently in bed than he did for her.
@@dominiqueknight6707
I dont think him being called out was the starting point though. We have evidence that they havent been having sex since Ozzie’s so there wouldnt have been much to actually gather from the experience after to use.
@@seraphywang4638 since his entire company depends upon the books, it would make sense that blitz would put extra effort into making sure that the sex he gives Stolas remains good.
@@seraphywang4638 oh, I misspoke, I dont think thats where Blitz’ attention to stolas’ sexual desires stemmed from! I think its just to show how Blitz has put more effort into this relationship with Stolas than the one he had with Verosika (even if he only allows himself to show affection through sexual acts)
@@dominiqueknight6707 have you noticed that Blitz tries to play off his excitement for the full moon? It's the biggest date marked on his calendar and he has all these doodles for Stolas but yea "I figured I'd just pay him a visit" like he hasn't been counting down the days.
57:12 Super agree with most of what you said, but here Blitzo is definitely fixated on the loss of the book rather than the loss of Stolas. Not because he values the book so much, but because he has such low self worth that he "knows" that if he loses the book he will lose I.M.P, and they are his replacement family. Losing the book would mean losing everything he has that matters and it would be "his fault" AGAIN, reinforcing his own self-hatred and despair. After, once his "value" to his new family is secure, we see his reaction to potentially losing Stolas (denial and anger)
I love how chat scared T.B. into believing Loopty and Goopty are comming back. HE WAS MAKING MAINTANANCE FOR YOU, THAT'S HOW YOU SHOW YOUR GRATTITUDE?

The gaslighting was successful, in a way?
The most disturbing part of this episode was finding out that Blitzo's boots don't have heels, it's actually the shape of his feet.
Well, we've seen it already in Exes and Oohs, after he spends the night with Chaz, and I can't stop thinking about the implications. Because his boots DO have heels, but this implies the heels are HOLLOWED and he puts his natural heels INSIDE them. And like. Are the boots custom made? Or does he drill holes in his shoes anytime he gets new ones??
@@herbatazimbirem4141I was honestly thinking that maybe there’s just imp-specific clothes and shoes. A lot of demons have hooves, so there’s probably no lack of hoof friendly shoes lol
1:25:22 you might be familiar with the "Therapist reacts" videos on Helluva Boss, but something interesting she said for this scene is that Blitz is has an avoidant attachment style, while Stolas is textbook anxious attachment. Which means that Blitz would rather not deal with this at all, and when he's forced to he needs to step back and try to logic his way through it, but Stolas on the other hand wants to deal with it as quickly as possible, so much so he actually rushes through the conversation so he doesn't have to sit there feeling rejected for longer than he can bear 🤔
An element that wasn't touched on is that Blitz demonstrated while shopping that he actually doesn't know Stolas that well at all, outside of the bedroom. When he was asked what the 'mood' of the evening was he couldn't answer with any specific or useful, and he didn't know Stolas's size in the next shop. The only time he was able to give more detailed instructions was with Fizz.
Which makes sense. From Blitz' POV, the relationship is strictly transactional - it's a part of his job and Stolas is just *supposed* to be a client that he happens to fuck instead of taking assassination assignments from. "Moods" are for romantic encounters with feelings. Can't touch feelings, we all know Blitz has feelings allergies. Getting accurate measurements for someone kinda requires asking them what their measurements are and that would look like Blitz cares, and Hell fucking forbid that this man ever shows care for anyone except his daughter outside of life or death situation. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he *intentionally* avoids really getting to know Stolas.
Because they don't know each other. They had a sex for services situation. In exchange for the book blitz how to sleep with Stolas once a month... How can you base that as a relationship ?
@@helenanilsson5666... They had a sex for services situation. As I have pointed out just like you have, Blitz was required to sleep with Stolas once a month for the book. And it's not like Stopas ever really cared about Blitz. The owl has been condescending, classist, and spineless.
The owl hid his face at Ozzy's restaurant in a menu, he only ever talked about Blitz as a sex object in front of other Imps and Lower class members of Hell, but never asked Blitz about his hobbies, and while he might care about his daughter he is very neglectful... Or are we going to ignore that ?
I'd love to see a short about stolas's butler imps and how his behavior affects them. It would be so interesting to see their inner lives and it could open the door for the narrative of having stolas realize how he's abusing them and showing how he'd try to rectify that
I'd really love to see Stolas actually interact with his servants on a demon-to-demon level, or to see their perspective on Stolas. Do they hate him? Are they dealing with him because they know other Goetias treat their servants worse? Do they feel some kind of attachment to him? They see him at his worse, both mentally and literally, would they want to help him be better if they weren't worried about their jobs?
Well, how about you try sarcastic courses take on the episode full moon ? It gives a breakdown on a while both Blitz and Stolas screwed up, Stolas screwed up a little bit more. And how the butler imp is getting a short end of the stick due to Stolas' actions
“Power rangers, power rangers, power rangers, fursuit.” Is the new “Duck duck goose” in my mind.
Pretty sure if Stolas tripped on a banana peel and fell down at ANY POINT in this conversation that would have probably been enough to avoid the iceberg. Now I'm wondering what else might have worked though.
If Stolas had to take an longer-than-average breath in his monolog, Blitz might have been able to get a word in edgewise before the rest of it crushed him like an out of control train.
This event is going to be fucked with. I'm going in. Banana peel in hand.
Now that's a good opening for a fix-it fic!
Not sure how many bananas Stolas keeps in his bedroom (and his staff would probably clear any peels within 0.5 seconds of Stolas dropping them, just to avoid fruit flies), but it would have been hilarious if he accidentally stepped on the gnome buttplug and took a tumble.
Skyen, as a victim of childhood grooming and CSA, thank you so much for taking the time to explain how the word is being overused and why it is important that it maintains its proper meaning. Not only is it infuriating to see it lobbed against any trans or queer person, but it's frustrating seeing people use it in scenarios where somebody is being sexually harassed too. Like harassment is wrong and SHOULD be called out but call it what it is. Grooming is not a thing that can happen with one encounter, and it's critically important that people understand what grooming IS and how it can be identified.
Exactly. People can be morons. It's really frustrating
Skyen lives in perpetual terror that Loopty might ever return. This will probably happen again next episode.
Imagine how funny it would be if Loopty actually showed up in the background at the Anti-Blitzø party. Like, no explanation, he's just there
2:12:07 this is very ironic in a sad way, cause Stolas wants Blitz to look at his way, but he doesn't even look at Blitz
I wasn't worried for one second about how Skyen would take this episode. When it first dropped it was genuinely difficult to occupy fandom spaces (and I hardly did to begin with) because of the instant side choosing and finger pointing - but Skyen clocked both Blitzø and Stolas so early on that I just knew he would get it from both sides. Truth Seekers and Ozzie's have sort of become by litmus test for this, and Skyen passed with FLYING colours. Especially the thing about the book being a crutch, that's something I've been yelling about for ages now - Blitzø NEEDS emotional safety nets. He NEEDS some transactional tethering to allow himself to be emotionally comfortable, but it isn't healthy. I love so so so much the amount of effort the team put into showing us how changed Blitzø is in this episode after fixing his relationship with Fizz. He's upbeat, he's excited to see Stolas, he isn't mean to Moxxie ONCE, it's a subtle bit instantly noticeable shift. Had it been a thing where he was the only problematic component in the relationship, with the right timing he could have become ready for a real relationship - but he isn't there yet, and they both need to address and unpack the class difference between them as well. Most people side completely with Stolas here, and it sucks seeing him so hurt here, but he's not ready for this either. We don't even know how well Stolas even KNOWS who Blitzø is. Does he love him? Or the idea of him? I have hope but this was always going to be a disaster, and the fault (for lack of a better word) is in equal parts.
About that last part - I've seen some people get angry at Stolas for not telling Blitzø he loves him in this episode. But that's something I actually loved here! Because yeah, Stolas doesn't REALLY know enough about Blitzø to truly love him. He knows enough to feel emotional turmoil, but love is about UNDERSTANDING someone. So Stolas telling Blitzø he "cares for him very deeply" is actually the best way he could describe his feelings, and I'd like to believe the word choice was intentional. He cares about him deeply, and he wants the OPPORTUNITY to love him
@@herbatazimbirem4141 YES EXACTLY THIS! I appreciated the way that was phrased too - Stolas is very sheltered, grew up isolated and without agency. He hasn't gone through that crucial time in life where you figure out who you really are, what you like, what you dislike. I think he's in love with the IDEA of love, and while I do think he sees a lot of traits he admires in Blitzø he can't really claim to know the real him. That takes time, takes work, takes communication. The line "we don't do words, we do sex" in the next episode (which Skyen has seen by now DW) all but confirmed that suspicion for me. I think they're compatible still! But they need to focus inward a little bit first, and get on one another's level. I'm pretty sure Viv is setting us up for the "Stolas dates around" and "Blitzø takes a crash course in introspection and self forgiveness" arc before they can have this conversation again
The way Stolas unceremoniously teleports Blitz out of the mansion with transition magic really a nail in the coffin of Blitz feeling like like an emotional punching bag.
Thrown into this torrent of feelings with no foreword and just as easily, literally, thrown out. Blitz's own opinion on how this conversation should be going not factoring into it at all.
I think Stolas was so sure he knew what Blitz wanted because Blitz 'expressed' his 'true feelings' to him before 1) after the evening at Ozzy's when Blitz got upset ("Don't pretend it's more than you wanting to fuck me, you make it very clear all the time!") 2) Blitz didn't come to save Stolas when he was kidnapped, didn't visit him when he was in the hospital, and then later Stolas saw their message history, compared his pages of text to Blitz's curt 'sure, nope, not rly', and it dawned on him 'oh, he really doesn't want to interact with me'. I think Stolas' conclusion is logical for someone emotionally abused, insecure in his own worth and trying to figure out his crush. He thinks he is the one to blame, that he was harmful to Blitz and wants to fix it.
Yes! They both keep sending mixed messages (literally), and instead of just straight up ASK the other what's going on, they keep ASSUMING what they meant and reacting to THAT instead, which gets them even deeper into the miscommunication hell they're in
Number of the first, Blitz was only upset at the owl during Ozzie's, because the owl hid his face after being probably called out by Oz himself.
Number of the second, blitz couldn't have saved stolen when striker showed up because he had to take care of his daughter Loona, she had to get her shot and it was scheduled 5 years in advance when they were supposed to be annual. But Blitz sent out Moxxie and Millie to go help Stolas. What was Blitz supposed to do drop everything for the bird ?
We already saw him in truth seekers and his actual demon form was pretty scary. So, it was only natural for Blitz to figure that he would be fine, considering what he did the last time. The owl has been classist, condescending and spineless...
I'VE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS ONE!!!
I know right! The minute I heard “When I See Him Tonight” I immediately thought about what Skyen would say.
My hot take is that if this episode was just all drama all the time it would've become exhausting
I'm pretty sure this is why Helluva Boss has those mood whiplash moments, like in Exes and Oohs where we get a harrowing flashback to Moxxie's childhood and come back to dicks coming out of the walls. It's supposed to keep the tone from getting *too* dark, sometimes at the expense of the drama it was trying to get across.
But I think it works best here in full moon, we get to have that important conversation at the end and take it completely seriously cuz we spent the rest of the episode doing the standard jokes and violence
As an april fool's joke Skyen really should just react to a South Park Episode, going into just as much detail and nuance as he does with these.
okay but actually though, depending on which episode you could actually do that pretty reasonably, there was a period of time where they actually had some really good character writing in that show
not chat going "EGG IN THERE!!!" when Stolas threw up asdfghjkl love it
god i love his analysis so much there are things i havent even considered like of course stolas had the speech planned out in his head of COURSE his dramatic ass would do that
This is something I said while watching the stream but I felt the need to say it again Skyen: Its just so refreshing, between the haters and the mis interpreters its so hard to find a person who genuinely enjoys and wants to analyze this show. So much of this fandom is crapped on by people who have never seen helluva, and there's so much discourse about how to understand this show and its characters. I really appreciate that you have created this space where people can debate, really deeply think about this story, and also use it as a way to bring important conversations to the fore front. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I only just now realized that Stolas thought this was beauty and the beast. He saw himself at the beast and him playing with the rose makes even more sense.
Blitzo ain't gonna be teaching orphans to read any time soon though...
Brilliant analysis. The one thing I interpreted differently is that Blitz's first terror-and-panic response when Stolas says he's taking the book back is not just about the idea of losing the connection, or concern for profit. He's hearing Moxxie in his head from earlier that day, emphasizing that he holds Blitz responsible. He's imagining losing M&M as the business collapses (why would they stay by him?). He's imagining Loona's disappointment, maybe her leaving when he can't afford the apartment anymore. All those voices from the hallucination saying he'll die alone. When he tearfully pleads that he'll do anything, he is not exaggerating.
But once Stolas brings out the crystal, it's all replaced by incomprehension and a different kind of fear. Now he "understands" that Stolas isn't destroying his livelihood, just rejecting him and kicking him out with a parting gift. Which somehow is not any less devastating. That second bout of pleading, "Am I not fucking you good enough? I can always do better," feels very different to me qualitatively. That's begging to keep the excuse that lets him stay.
Stolas: You don't need an excuse, just stay.
Blitz: (ERROR IMP06969 DOES_NOT_COMPUTE)

While neither of them handles the situation at the end great, I think the song at the beginning kind of foreshadows that it seems like the big issue Stolas in particular has at the end is that he seems to decide that there's only two possible ways him giving Blitzo the crystal could go - either Blitzo will fully reject him and want nothing to do with him ever again, or he'll fully embrace him and say he returns his romantic feelings and wants t o be with him forever. He doesn't seem to consider the possibility of Blitzo wanting anything in between those two options, whether it's keeping their current casual arrangement, just without the obligation aspect since now Blitzo doesn't need to exchange the book when he comes over, or trying to start over as friends and see where things went.
I think my only comment is that with Stolas saying that Blitzø always thinks it's about sex, and Skyen saying that it was Stolas's fault, I will die by this hill, that Stolas only went the sex route because as shown in The Circus, he keeps on giving in to what he sees as what Blitzø wants, since Blitzø was the one who seduced him in The Circus episode. There was a clue there, with the pirate game, that he went with it because it's what Blitzø wanted, and it carries on during their affair, whenever Stolas said "If that's what Blitzy wants" he said it because it's what he believes and what he wants to give to retain this relationship and not just mere words. Absolutely saying he didn't fuck up, just that they both fucked up.
I will die on this hill too, I fuckijg AGREE
@@SS-ui7by, thank you! I just can't believe some other people can't see how that dumb agreement was part of Stolas's people-pleasing personality.
Something I think is pretty cool is that Blitzø is really happy and excited to visit Stolas, which is actually a first for him. He even dresses up. Just BECAUSE.
And I think it’s because Stolas was finally giving him the choice to honor their monthly arrangement or not. That small amount of agency was all Blitzø needed to feel completely comfortable with their relationship and allow his natural affection for Stolas to bubble up.
Tbh, stolas had been doing that since very early on.
@@SS-ui7by at what time before Western Energy is this indicated to us?
@@dodiswatchbobobo If you want to be really really charitable towards Stolas, it could probably be argued that it started right after the date at Ozzies, but Blitz' reaction at the time strongly indicates to me that up until that point nothing but sex had really been an option for them.
@@helenanilsson5666 I feel like we aren’t talking about the same thing. All I’m saying is that this is the first monthly meeting since Stolas gave Blitzø the option to ditch, and the relaxation of that obligation was enough for Blitzø to be comfortable in their transaction. Before this episode, he’s always reacted to sex night with Stolas like it’s a chore.
@@dodiswatchboboboSadly, I think it might be the opposite. Because Blitzø doesn't really seem to REALIZE Stolas was trying to give him a choice there. We've seen that he interpreted Stolas' messages as him trying to gently let him know he doesn't want to see him every full moon for at least 3 months. So this time, when that didn't happen, he's excited because for him it looks like Stolas actually WANTS him there for a change

While its understandable that you`re not a big fan of either the cherubs or the d.o.r.k.s, i was personally pretty happy with the direction they were taking this episode. The two sets of characters have a good comedic fit and i do enjoy how we`re seeing the cherubs are becoming increasingly corrupt and demon-like from their time on earth. I also like the setups where the D.h.or.k.s. are currently a non-threat, but are steadily growing in power, managing to secure a small but significant win each time they appear. Im a big fan of the trope where a joke vilain keeps being ignored and under-estimated until they arent a joke anymore so im pretty excited to see them going this route.
I`ll also add that while they arent really necessary to the episode main storyline, their inclusion does forward their own story and future episodes will benefit from the setups made here.

What made this inevitable for me is the fact that Stolas is kind of placing all his eggs in one basket by relying on Blitz for his happiness. He seems to believe that if they get together, it’ll magically solve all his problems such as his faltering relationship with Octavia, and the threat of the Goetia bearing their full weight down on him. To me it felt also like he was testing Blitz by seeing what kind of reaction he would have by being freed from their contract. He’s placing a lot of expectation on someone who is never going to be able to live up to what’s being asked of him
Nahhh. In the beginning only, stolas said, when he sees Blitz, all of it won't be so tough.
Blitz gives gim bravery.
Stolas feels empowered by blitz and that gives him courage to stand up to the villains in his life.
Throw stella out, finalise the divorce, stand up to Andrealphus.
He's naive due to his isolation but he isn't so naive and stupid so as to think being with blitz will magically solve his entire life problems.
He wasn't exactly testing him in the typical sense of the word, it was for him to simply KNOW whether blitz reciprocates or not.
And he prob did not plan that if he says no, yeah, im gonna send him away immediately.
It was the harshness and vitriolic side of blitz turned against HIM for once, that tipped him to reflexively get the source of his anguish away
@@chilliicecream5456 On some level, you're right, this definitely ended up being a sh!t test because of the way it was presented. Blitzø failed, not knowing what he was being set up for
That's exactly what he was doing. Which again demonstrates his lack of self-awareness. Those two never had a relationship. It was sex for services and the owl started this whole thing.
My issue is why does everyone in his fandom treat this situation like they were dating, when they know it wasn't the case ?
@@zoenesin520... Blitz shouldn't have had to be tested. Try putting yourself in that imps, and if you were in a sex for services situation with this owl would you want to be tested like this ?
Because they weren't dating. This whole thing was transactional
@@seeleunit2000 I completely agree with you. I think it doesn't read clearly to a lot of people because there isn't money being exchanged and because it isn't straight. It's very clear to me. The writers are really explicit about it, but you're right, a large portion of the audience missed what "favors for favors" means
The breakup scene is a work of art
1:33:25 I am so happy Skyen recognizes this. A large part of the fandom has been way more hostile towards Stolas than I felt comfortable with. Yes, he approached this whole converstion horribly, but to expect him to continue engaging with Blitz after all that? No. I'm very interested what Skyen thinks of his behavior in the next episode, that is where I was genuinely a bit annoyed with Stolas at times.
I would argue that in the next episode, Stolas is exactly where this episode leaves him, Blitz too. Stolas now "knows" that Blitz doesn't love him, in fact he hates him like he hates all the royalty. All he liked about their relationship was the sex.
Blitz now "knows" that Stolas wants more communication in this relationship, but that Stolas will just ignore Blitz when it's convenient for him.
I’d say the majority of the fandom has been completely on Stolas’ side absolving him of any blame whatsoever… that’s been my experience anyway.
@@liamwhite3522 Spoilers:
I don’t know. In this episode, the big emotional moment, I understood Stolas feeling hurt and porting Blitz away. The sheer bitterness he shows him at beginning of the next episode the pettiness, the total unwillingness to communicate, after Blitz has clearly shown that no, he does value this relationship? I don’t know, I felt that was unreasonable. Not to say Blitz handles it well either, or that it makes Stolas a bad person to want space, I just thought that his actions didn’t feel as… understandable as they did in this episode.
I like how the both of them behave at the party again, although I heavily dislike the party itself, it’s just Stolas’ actions at the pool I found frustrating.

1:25:49 That's the whole thing!!!!
Why would stolas assume that blitz NEEDS any time? Sure if blitz would've asked for it, or even just said "hold on bitch, I need some time, christ on a stick, let me think!" stolas would've paused his entire mindset and emotions.
Contrary to what stolas has faced and done his entire life i.e posturing, politely hidden barbs, not meaning what you actually say and hiding your true intentions due to his royal upbringing, blitz is is bold, brazen and open about everything. He doesnt bend to the class system, says what he wants to whosoever he wants.
Why would stolas assume blitz is emotionally stunted? Why would stolas assume he is feeling overwhelmed or rejected or abandoned??? Why would he think blitz is thickheaded and needs time to process his words? They've been in this situationship-limbo for long enough.
Blitz has always said what's on his mind to stolas.
It's what gives him the courage to make his own choices, divorce stella etc.
THIS bit is the miscommunication and the fact that they still don't know each other that well.
Stolas thinks blitz has always been open and bold "why would he be lying or hiding his true feelings from me? He never hides then usually. So obviously, his real feelings are that he dislikes me, could never take my love seriously. Thats my answer."
And thats valid from someone who has this impression and gotten blitz's response to their heartfelt, brave confession.
It's not his fault, it's their stupid miscommunication.
1:26:53 Because blitz started it. All this time, he was naively under the impression that blitz broke into my bedroom that one night and immediately fucked me, without any preamble, no catchup, no talk about the last 20 years so that must be what he likes. That must be what I should do and propose to him to keep him interested and connected to my pathetic, lanky, unattractive lonely self right? (His mindset) Sex isn't important to stolas, it's important to him only to keep blitz near. It's important when it's with blitz. Thats why he was so hypersexual in the beginning. Not that it means blitz is to blame. Stolas took it and literally DASHED with the sex thing, but it's not as if he handpicked blitz one fine day to propose a sexual arenagement on. Blitz is the reason for it, but stolas snowballed the sex thing.
They both think the OTHER is all about sex, and doesnt care about THEM. Thats the miscommunication, AGHHHH!!!
Around 33:30 or so when Fizz pulls out the dragon driller, it’s cool to see that the wall display has just… wing accessories. That’s such a nice little thing to think of, a lot of hellborn have wings so sure why wouldn’t you want to pretty them up? Accessorization goes a long way for horny. I love that.
Uh... I could be wrong, as they are blurred, but I'm pretty certain they're tentacles.
@@RiverCrystal Sorry, ambiguous phrasing. By “they” I meant Fizz and Ozzie, during that part of the scene you can see wing decorations on display in the background.
FINALLY A RUclipsR WHO UNDERSTAND BOTH SIDES
I don't know about you but Cletus having that voice and being in the tall exosuit is comedy gold to me.
these two are the kings of miscommunication
I think its interesting how, during the last scene, there are multiple references to when Blitz and Stolas were together as kids. That being, Blitz bringing in a large bag which references the one he used to steal from Stolas as kids, them walking down the same hallway, standing in front of the chandelier, and Stolas keeping the grimoire between the two books he showed Blitz as children.
Makes me think that this was meant to remind the audience of why, from Stolas' perspective, its always been obvious that their relationship was about more than sex to him. Since its pretty implied that he's had a consistent crush on Blitz for more than 25 years now, even if he himself had a hard time fully grasping his feelings himself at first due to his lack of proper social development.
My personal fix it head cannon involves Ozzie sending them to a couple's therapist. There's really no realistic way for these 2 to figure it out without outside intervention.
well, time to watch the half an hour I slept through from the 12 hour stream 😊
Good luck! And hey Varya ;')
1:13:29 "'i'll just assume it's some royal thing where they get off on cosplaying like they care about...'"
FORESHADOWING IS A LITERARY DEVICE.
Absolutely love that you looked at it from both of their perspectives and saw the shattering due to their inability to communicate from the same emotional standpoint.
My fix-it is a bit simple and it has to do with framing: if Stolas had suggested they talk first, invited Blitz to sit with him on the bed, then commended him for being amazing while presenting the gem as a gift before asking for the book back, Blitz probably would not have been so shocked by the situation and would have probably been hesitant but not as desperate and asked if things had to end to which that would have been the best moment for the “that’s up to you” point. It would mean that Stolas would have to be direct and not as operatic in his delivery so that Blitz wouldn’t assume it’s all bs… and if Stolas was willing to risk giving Blitz chances to respond instead of monologuing. Another thing that would be an issue though is that Blitz hates himself so much and has no reason to believe that anyone can actually love him because the other people had ever seemed to love him had ended up hating him (Barb, Fizz, and Verosika most notably) but if he was too confused without feeling dread that everything was ending, maybe he would have assumed that this was a negotiation moment and asked for time. Then he would have gone back to IMP (maybe after he and Stolas slept together) and tried his best to explain what happened and make sense of it from a business standpoint… and well… he happens to work with another theatrical romantic and his wife so there’s a chance that Moxxie would recognise the grand gesture and Millie might look at it like a proposal, which would hopefully get Blitz to consider the possibility that it’s romantic. I’m not sure how Loona would react because she has similar damage to Blitz and assumes people are looking for ways to ditch, so she might be the only person who looks at it as sus. This of course would drag the will they/won’t they out for a few episodes as Blitz would struggle to figure out how to interpret it and what to respond. I think he’d probably reach out to Fizz who’d be very direct with him and call it out that he and Stolas are practically dating already and get Blitz to deal with his worthiness issues outside of a screaming match with Stolas. The next thing would probably then be a confrontation between Stolas and Blitz where Blitz would demand to know what Stolas means and that would be the point for Stolas to make the love confession and Blitz would respond with asking why/how Stolas could love him and you know that bird has a long list. But again it would hang on if Blitz is ready to accept it or not. After the conversation with Fizz (as someone who cared for him deeply, then hated him, and now they’re back as besties) I think he’d be just barely ready and would give Stolas one actual date as a way to just try to get a feel for things but not yet ready to admit it’s something he wants. That’s my take on the more positive “fix” for this.
Granted, I think this blow up was kinda necessary for what comes after. Can’t wait for the rest of the season.
Also side note: the B plot with the cherubs and the dhorks (I can’t remember the bloody way they messed with the spelling) while it feels like padding and superfluous to the episode, also feels like it’s just there for mini-arc set up. Kinda like how Striker was set up to be recurring, but without that certain flavour that he or Spike in Buffy has that makes it feel like they will be series long recurring. I predict (but I don’t actually know) that the cher-orks (yes, I’m that sort of geek) will be the “big bad” of this half of the season and maybe show up once or twice afterwards separately. This show doesn’t really do the “big bad” stuff because it seems more like the emotional bits are the season long arcs.
Nuance? In *my* Helluva Boss discussion?
It's more likely than you think
This is much more charitable review of the episode than others when it came out. Like so many Stolas and Vivzie haters trying to flame it for the writing.
The first time I saw this I thought the misunderstanding was 100% on Blitz, but that's changed with a rewatch. We know that what Stolas says around the 1:08:00 mark onwards is in regards to the power dynamics of the relationship, and how he doesn't feel right about having leverage over Blitz. But the wording is vague enough that I can understand Blitz misinterpreting it as Stolas saying that it isn't right for a Goetia and an Imp to be in a relationship.
1:39:50 and there it is guys, a laugh made of pure pain and suffering from watching the mess of a demon romance ;-;
Really great parallels with the episode of blitz and stolas as children. Him coming to see stolas bringing this sack of playthings and fun for them. A real genuine show of affection and interest in stolas' having a good time with him. Then as their conflict develops moving to the room with the chandelier where as kids they got to experience this sense of wonder and awe and presence with each other vs it now covered up in the shadows. This real sense of how time and trauma has built up stopping them from being able to see and truly be with each other.
I feel like there's more to expand on with that visual metaphor but that's the energy it brings me.
I just reached the talk, and we’re only 40 minutes into the video. Holy crabs, Skyen.
1:12:40 one interesting thing with that is I'm pretty sure blitz is dyslexic. So for him attempts at communicating through text are probably uncomfortable.
I know I'm the opposite, I'm awkward IRL but I communicate much better through text so when someone tries to have a serious conversation with me face to face or in voicechat it makes me uncomfortable and I try to avoid it or make it into a text based conversation, and if I don't have a choice it's really overwhelming.
It's probably similar for blitz the attempts to communicate through text are most likely feeling almost like an aggression, it's forcing him on a terrain where he isn't well equipped and it creates an assymetry.
Yup, and if Moxxie is any indication, these things don't just make Blitzø uncomfortable - they make him feel *stupid*. His knee jerk response to humiliation is anger, so I'm positive those texts likely made him frustrated and the heartfelt attempts to reach out were entirely lost on him.
Finally, someone who takes the weird spelling as something other than complete and total illiteracy
Blitz isn't nearly as bad when he writes though. It's normally when he types. His hands are too big for his phone. When it comes to writing however, he just can't spell because he is uneducated.
I find it kinda interesting putting this story in Hell, that every character takes it as a given that they're "bad people" even though Humans are the only ones that are deliberately sent to hell because of their sins. Demon spawns are just born there and are mainly colored by their inherited trauma from *where* they were born. But because they view themselves as bad people they believe they don't deserve happiness either. I see why the studio explored that though Hazbin Hotel.
2:07:59 can't stop thinking about this either being the first time stolas has ever heard the words 'i love you' from a romantic partner and it's THAT, or it's not and blitz has unintentionally reminded him of stella saying 'i love you' in a mocking way too. i can't decide which is worse (best).
also, 2:11:17. really think about '-after everything you put me through!'. what blitz means is very different to what stolas is thinking. what stolas just heard is what kind of monster he is.
I'm not sure Blitz mistakes the importance of the books for how important Stolas is to him, when it's taken away (and before the alternative is presented).
Like...slight capitalism sympathy here, but Blitz is a small business owner, and not one who dodged any of the steps to create it (except sleeping with a magician to get his dimensional book).
I.M.P is the result of many efforts and partly his lifegoal. Since childhood he wanted to have his own "circus" because it represent a form of freedom and importance his dad never gave him.
Furthermore, it's through I.M.P that he connects to Moxie, Millie and Loona, his only friends until he fixed things with Fizz. If the company falls, Blitz does not lose "just" his success and money, he also looses his friends and potentially daughter even (at least, I believe that's part of his perception).
Blitz's panic is less about fearing he's going to lose Stolas, but also losing his achievement, his two friends and his daughter. For one, he's responsible for their income and for two, his perception would lead him to believe Moxie and Millie put out with his B.S because he pays them. Barring that, they might actually leave.
I agree wholeheartedly, but I think it's still ultimately about rejection. Losing the book would mean losing the means to his survival, but he thinks those means are also all that keeps anyone close to him. So not only would he lose everything, he thinks he would lose everyone. His fear of rejection and his absolutely abysmal self worth twist into a horrible misery void in his mind, which is why he just can't comprehend any of what's happening. And the notion that Stolas is rejecting him is just another part of the horror of the moment for him
@@michi4066 I agree it's all about rejection. What I disagreed is the "It's not about the Book, it's about Stolas".
The Book means much more than Stolas, it means all of I.M.P, including his relationship with Moxie, Millie and Loona. And it definitly plays in his confusion, his fear and later anger regarding the situation, and Stolas is to blame for not realising that, even after Blitz was shown the alternative.
You don't let people believe their life's work and relationships are on the line, even if you present an alternative. Or at least, you let them breathe for a minute.
@@farseeraradrel4808 Oh, I agree. That was definitely the wrong move. Understandable, as the whole interaction is, in my opinion. But absolutely the wrong thing to do. Again, as almost every part of the conversation
Also it wasnt brought up, but how when the angels are meeting with D.O.R.K.S. the lampshade for the room is directly above Collin, like a halo. It shows that of eveyone in the room hes the only one whos morally good.
1:27:45
One thing i find horrendously tragic is that once Blitzø tarts shout at him, you can see Stolas begin to shut down. He's probably having flashbacks to Stella screeching at him while still living together. In that instant Blitzø was just another Stella screeching at and blaiming him for everything that's gone wrong. His pace quickens as he's trying to get away from him because it's triggering for him.
No I don't think that's it. Stollas was numb to the screeching, his reaction wasn't to run away
Yes! And this is showing how a lot of their issues come from not understanding the other.
Blitzø screams because he thinks it's the only way for him to be heard.
But for Stolas being screamed at is the moment he STOPS listening, because he associates it with someone trying to hurt him.
Never could I described it better in a title
Nothing particular to add but comment for engagement.
Favorite quote: If they don't demonitize this one I might have to report it myself.
Blitzo's big mistake is thinking sex is SIMPLE. That forming a connection can be easily avoided. THat relationships are simple.
Look back at the candle shop scene. Blitzo has avoiding thinking about relationships to the poitn he doesn't even know what mood he actually wants to SET, he jsut goes with a vague 'horny', not realising that that's not a MOOD and is why he's just grabbing a shitload of random junk in the hopes it'll be enough: he doesn't actually know enough what Stolas would want beyond 'kinky sex'.
SO when Stolas suggests he wants something more, that he wants MORE than just 'simple sex', Blitzo FREAKS OUT and rather than see where stolas is coming from he defaults to denial and, when its made clear stolas was serious, he then moves on to ANGER as he's now desperate to maintain control of the situation, because he doesn't want Stolas to break up with him but he isn't ready to face WHY but he also doesn't want to articulate it so he's just trying to use anger to bulldoze his way into the situation, to ignore stolas' words and jsut try to put the relationship back to 'normal'.
Blitzo's mistake was thinking sex is simple, and in turn that sex with stolas was simple. and when it turned out it wasn't and he lsot control he freaked out, leading to him saying something that Stolas did NOT take well.
Keeping in mind Blitz accepts Chaz's invitation in exchange for information and that he didnt seem to even hesitate about the book I wouldnt be surprised if most of Blitz's sexual experiences have been hookups and sex work.
Which probably explains him viewing sex as simple, since for most of his life its been a fuck once and move on
"What's the mood?"
"Hey guy, I JUST want horny.
Thinking about emotions and feelings is not what I want today."
1:19:15 One thing that could be changed without altering anything is simply Stolas not opening the scene with saying he needs the book back permanently. That, on its own, put Blitz into a panic state, a combination of "my livelihood is over" and, more importantly, "im not good enough and this is a breakup"... which sets up Blitz to make his own incredibly bad move next.
The first half of this scene is Stolas screwing up his big romantic gesture, and the second half is Blitz screwing up by lashing out in rage and fear. For as much overlap there is between these two men, their current respective limitations are so aggressively incompatible that there was no way for this to not blow up.
I think prt of Stolas' and Blitzø's issue with this communication in particular is that both of them also think that the other has the perfect life and can't possibly be dealing with issues, too. To Stolas, Blitzø grew up in the circus with his parents present, playing "imp games" and laughing and dreaming about what _he_ wanted to do _all_ day, every day. To Blitzø, Stolas grew up being not a disappointment and failure to his family, fulfilling their expectations and being _good_ at what they want him to do, being privileged and respected. Meanwhile they both had really shitty lives and were not shown the love they deserved and so neither of them know in any way that they need to be even a little bit... uh.. I forgot the English. De skal vise lidt hensyn, for de er begge skadet. Is what I wanted to say.
I appreciate that we have the official Skyen approval to do puppy play in a Loona fursuit
10:12 genuinely can't tell if Skyen is picking up on his own words and the simbolism here or just saying it.
Wow, I missed that part of Blitzs’ argument, and always thought his word choice strange. You helped me understand what he was saying there, Thanks Sky
(oh my this became a textwall....)
1:30 those maid service people running in like "WE HAVE 3 SHOTS TO CLEAN THIS GO GO GO" chcsdjs (Nice catch, also :0)
~9:00 this might be super basic, but with the whole "finishing each other's sentences" bit, I think what makes it feel less uninspired is that it sort of doubles as them looking at the same thing but from wildly different perspectives.
Also I'm more of a child than I would like and something about "GOd this is the worst!" with that "suggestive" cut makes me just absolutely lose it every time. Idk how it makes me smile EVERY. TIME.
I think it's bc the first reaction of "WHA- oh. LMAO" just stuck with me?? but idk, I feel like it shouldn't be funny on repeat but it just is kekeke
10:20 LMAO wait you're right- Stolas wtf why you trying to undo the plucking.....
17:50 the absolute hatred for Loopty is amazing - I haven't watched the CHERUBS video because I don't wanna rewatch CHERUBS (lmao) but I think I might have to just to see how bad it gets for Skyen.....
40:00 wouldn't be Helluva without those tone shifts - the eerie/suspenseful music behind all of Blitz's funny dialogue delivery is so strong, it's wild how big an impact music has, and this is one of the rare cases where it kind of stands out (to me), because of the contrast to Blitz saying "Hidey-ha-hoo-ha, Stolas!" and being all cute and excited to show him all the stuff he got for them AHHH- MY BABY BOYS.
Also I think the tonal whiplash this episode kind of works? because it's in-line with Blitz and Stolas looking at the same thing(s) through wildly different perspectives (tones).
47:00 it's super impressive to me what Skyen addresses in these WHILE watching - the whole thing of "Stolas is bombarding Blitz with this prepared speech that's NOT laid out in a way that's super empathetic" is something I only really properly realized after the watch when everything had time to sink in. As in, I knew it was a bad start, but I didn't really GET that Stolas was so heavily in-control even when trying to give away control.
57:20 I'm not super sure on how much of it is Blitz worrying about the business (he does have Loona to take care of, and i don't THINK IMP does a lot of jobs in hell?) but that he doesn't stop begging to keep their connection when offered the crystal DOES speak volumes as you say later.
(58:30 Chat trying to summon Loopty in the background is sending me)
59:10 WHAT EARS SKYEN. WHAT EARS (/lh)
1:12:00 LMAO- not the secret technique!!! you can't leak it like this!!!
1:15:00 yees!! Stolas needs friends........ I hope he gets to have some positive re-occuring relationships that aren't just Via or Blitz/romantic relationships.
1:18:10 mood. I love them so much
I hope he doesn’t say this after where I’m at, but I find it so interesting that when Blitzø yells at Stolas, that isn’t Blitzø saying “turn around and do what I want”, but rather “We have a disagreement, fight with me until we agree”. However, Stolas can only hear the anger, and judgement, and hostility. He associates all those things with Stella, and of course he wouldn’t be able and willing to turn around and argue with Blitzø. I don’t buy the whole “Stolas was terrified of Blitzø for yelling at him” narrative some people have, but I think it’s fair to say that there was no way in that moment that he could give Blitzø what he wanted.
Always appreciate when reactors are able to see both points of view. The whole team Blitz vs team Stolas thing is dumb
Also appreciate the speech about how it can be an unhealthty relationship without being ab_se/r_pe. The number of people I've seen call it that (or even compare Stolitz to Valentino and Angel Dust's relationship) is ridiculous
god, this episode is hard to watch someone react to, because damn it does a perfect job of making a split in opinion.
I’m kind of surprised this one stayed under 3 hours honestly lol. This is the episode I’ve really been waiting for, very excited for it!! 🎉
32:25-32:43; 2:22:27-2:23:12; 2:24:43 Favorite part of the reaction- Skyen missed the Among Us suit not once but *twice*, even in the background scans, and had to be explicitly told by chat about it. 😆
At this point I am not even hyped for the reaction, I am hyped for more cute moments with your cat❤❤❤
I think the cherubs/DHORKS plot was meant as a deliberate palate cleanser, as well as hopefully a setup for a more serious attack from them later. The A plot was so heavy and emotional it was nearly overwhelming as it was. We really needed that break. Maybe it even needed to be a silly corny break with violence and sex jokes, to reassure us that we are still watching Helluva Boss and not the season finale of Hell-a-Novela.
Blitz is chasing after Stolas by the end, looking his way just like he wanted! Argh! But anger and insults are the easiest (verbal) language for him. This was sweet-talking compared to the way Blitz used to treat Moxxie. But I'm certain Stolas has never experienced that from Blitz before, and it must have felt like Stella screaming at him all over again.
Yeeees! Leave it to Skyen to see the balance in this argument. Yes, Blitzø has a black belt in self sabotage, but Stolas is equally damaged and both of them need some personal growth before they are ready for a proper relationship. And that's why I love it! I love a slow burn. I look forward to them working this out
Man he's gonna love apology tour. If that one is under 4 hours I'll be shocked
My prediction..."apology tour" will be 4 hours.
I don't know if it's just the general musical theatre style Stolas often goes back to for his songs, but when he gets to calling himself a monster for taking advantage of Blitz my little musical nerd heart almost gets vibes back to the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde musical, where the music and his performance take such a dramatic shift in tone it almost feels like he becomes a different character and back again over the course of a verse or two.
Stolas really hates himself just like blitz hates himself he covers his pictures with Stella but not Octavia those parallels are killing me
It's even more devastating that it's also bc he was fearful for also the business because that's how he supports his I.M.P. family 🥺
yesss this just made my morning; i'm early and just sat down with my coffee let's gooooooo
He thinks turning off chat will stop the c_m jokes
I hate how everyone immediately piles on and shits on stolas for being not-perfect in how he deals with everything (because homophobia and/or black and white-ism against a man who "ruined his family" by cheating and/or puritanism against his newly-found horniness, because being very horny isnt bad)but blitz immediately gets a trauma-pass for even some of the most openly-hostile and hurtful things he has said.
They both are justified in a LOT of the things they have done because of their DIFFERENT traumas but the accountability for it doesnt dissappear.
They get some relaxation for it but not a free pass.
If stolas needs to learn about his ignorance, classism and condescension, blitz too needs to be nicer, more considerate and mindful of his words and his treatement of others.
Stolas doesnt get to be always wrong just because he was born rich while blitz gets a free sympathetic pass just because he belongs to a disadvantaged class and has gone through a stereotypically-traumatic physical accident.
ahhh if only they could sit through your reaction
I'm surprised Skyen didn't mention this detail, but we've seen that broken down, now unlit chandelier that Stolas and Blitz stop in front before. Back in Episode 1 of this season in fact.
I wonder if there's some resonant symbolism going on there...
Oh damn, over an hour of aftercare? but I guess it's appropriate
exciiiiiiiited for the next reaction, very good analysis of everything ah, its nice to go through every little peace of it and you explained all their thought processes and how life shaped them to get to the positions they are in!
I am on the edge of my seat for Apology Tour, that reaction has to be at least 3 hours.
