    Thanks for the video Shane, very helpful. The demented bird actually helped to find the right video again! Some extra info from a novice's experience: ***1*** Releasing Serpentine belt tension - you need a fair bit of force on the tensioner pulley (i used a 15mm socket on a solid 1/2" drive bar - a my 3/8" drive bar was not enough leverage), and have a nail or screw handy to pop into the hole to hold the belt loose (well, kind-of loose - it still doesn't slip over the alternator pulley easily). ***2*** Removing alternator: (a) One of the bottom bolts also has a bracket that holds some hoses running under the alternator. Don't forget to hook that back on later. (b) the electrical plug at the back was really hard to unclip, I found it best to take out all the bolts first and pull the alt forward to get better access to the plug. Make that your last thing to reconnect in case you need to take it back out! (c) bottom bolts - undo the 13mm nuts, use your 7/16" or 5.5mm socket to undo the two threaded bolts from the engine block, but the front one can't actually be removed from the alternator case until you take out the alternator - not enough clearance from the body of the car. ***3*** Replacing alternator: (a) before putting the alt back in place, put those two lower bolts through the alt case first or you won't be able to get the front one in place. (b) Put the belt over the alt pulley before tightening the alt bolts so you can wriggle it around a bit to help you locate it correctly. (c) don't forget that hose bracket on the lower rear bolt ***4*** Serpentine belt - when removing the nail and releasing the tensioner back to position at the end of the job, check that the belt is tracking correctly on ALL the pulleys before you put the cover back over everything. Mine slipped off its track on nearly every pulley. ***5*** I'm not at this point yet but Bursons, who sold me the replacement alternator (AU$735 BTW - it was $100 cheaper at Supercheap but a 5 day wait) said I would need to clear any error codes with a scan tool so that the car realised it was a new alternator. If anyone can confirm or refute this, I'm sure others would appreciate it. Anyhow, hope all this helps someone.

    This was great thanks mate. Just did mine in 2 hours in the dark on my driveway. FYI for anyone wondering on the star socket size for the lower studs it’s an E7.
    Cheers

    You sir, are a legend.
    Had it done in a few hours really taking my time. Still doesn't crank unfortunately, but I have full electrics back.
    PS 5 bolts on the belt cover
    UPDATE: and with the battery fully recharged it lives to fight another day. Couldn't be happier

    Hi mate I have the 2103 diesel. My wife was driving today and low voltage mode came up on the dash. The aircon stopped and went into limp mode.
    Now when I turn on it’s in battery saver mode and only shows 11v on the dash. It didn’t shut down like yours did though. Wondering if still alternator or something ekse

    Were you able to just fire it back up once you had the new alternator installed? I got a “battery saver mode” warning, then after I parked it wouldn’t start. When I tried to jump it the computer got all wonky (slow wipers, flashing dash lights). I am hoping the computer just resets and lets it run.

      Mine just ran. Maybe disconnect the battery so it resets the computer again

      Thank you!!! Before deciding to do it myself a mechanic wanted to sell me a new computer too. I hoped I made the right call and figuring the computer would be fine.

    How’d you get the tensioner to move? I’ve got a 15 mm on the bolt but it won’t budge. Any tips?

    They did do a recall for the 3.0 as well, but it only effects the 2012-2014. MY14 onwards were not effected by the issue.

      @@martynasdabuzinskas7042 yep, it’s Recall T36. Google that for your respective country and you’ll get the result.

      They recalled them in the US. They are affected by the same issue but jeep have gotten away with saying it’s not a safety issue on the diesel.

    Hey mate - I've now had the alternator fail in my WK2 diesel, so was great to watch your vid (love the bird).... QUESTION: in the video, you say to loosen the belt tensioner, it's a 15mm spanner and to pull up (anticlockwise) (@5.09mins). I tried this with a spanner - no joy. I tried it with a breaker bar and 15mm socket and only succeeded in starting to round off the edges of the bolt. I searched for another vid and found this one ruclips.net/video/L7W4O8S4H7o/видео.html. While it's for a RAM, I'm pretty sure it's the same engine - in this vid it says to loosen the tensioner you go clockwise?? Before I give it another crack and risk rounding the bolt even more, can you confirm which way you turned the tensioner bolt?? Cheers

    • @pdgale
      @pdgale 2 года назад +1

      Just an update - for my 2014 WK2 diesel belt tensioner, I had to turn to the right (clockwise)…..

    • @ayjay05
      @ayjay05 2 года назад +2

      Agreed, it’s clockwise to loosen, then you retain it with a little bolt in the hook/port at the top while you work.
