I'm flattered! The quality still has a long way to go but I am learning as I go.

You should make a parabolic mirror for solar cooking

  • @PauloDutra

You probably need one bigger parabola to get some real gain... On the meters range... Wavelengths and everything....

The effect is limited indeed. A larger parabola would of course, be better. My 3d printer doesn't have a very large build volume though, so I personally would have to print the outer edges as separate parts and glue them on or something.
Also another thing that a keen listener might notice, is that the timbre of the recording changes juuust slightly, towards... well, honestly, a plastic-y tone (imagine talking into a traffic cone or something similar)

Birds aside - 45cm diameter up works for female human voices 75cm starts to enhance male voices well. A microphone array at the focus is the best. This can be achieved by 3D printing segments and gluing them together. I successfully easily heard (when I found the sweet spot) a conversation [with consent] between my sister and her kid at 80 meters. Companies charge thousands for these -which is utterly ridiculous.

Yeah, making a parabolic microphone on your own, as long as you can get a good enough parabolic surface from somewhere is sooooo much cheaper...

Do you have the design file for 3d printing?
