In the March I went to watch ride, verve supported, had never heard of them, everyone milling around paying half attention, all in the mind broke, wow, most amazing performance I’ve ever seen, slide away was incredible, brilliant night

Wow! I remember this night well. My old band supported. The Verve guys were very nice. I shared a magic cigarette with Richard after soundcheck. Richard broke an SM57 on the stage during their set. There was a big argument between their manager and the sound guy afterwards. Then someone nicked one of their drums and was chased across Peterborough in a van by members of both bands. The Verve's musical career went in one direction, ours the other. A great night though and simpler, happier times. Thanks for posting.

It has always been said that the problems between Nick and Richard led to the breakups of the band. But if you read what the two have said over the years, you will find words of love and mutual respect.
I saw them around this time supporting Spiritualized at the Mcr Poly Mandela building. I’d never heard of them but they blew my mind utterly. Most of the audience were sat on the floor transfixed by their performance. This is brilliant footage. Thanks for sharing.
During the first big drop for Already There, I was watching and waiting for them to go nuts and I'm pretty sure Nick doesn't even move a muscle. He's way to focused to be even slightly theatrical. What a legend.
For the love of God YES!!! I was lucky enough to be at Camden Town Hall and again at Brixton Academy in November of 1992 to see them twice in the space of a week. This is special... can we just get rid of the 'The' in their name, please? They didn't acquire that until a while later, under pressure from Verve records!
I kind of like it actually. It's but another unique quirk for a profoundly unique and quirky band. And it distinguishes between this version of the band and what it was to become. If you're a fan of the band, you either prefer Verve or The Verve. I prefer Verve myself.
Holy mary mother of Jeezus! Nick totally drowns out the others at the end of slide away lol. Verve at their fuckin finest. Blessed are we that some legend captured this.
Incredible footage. Man....these guys were SO good back in these days when the band was allowed to explore sounds and textures. After Richard decided to make the Verve his backup band, they became just another band no different from 1000 others.
He was known as Mad Richard in the UK press around this time. Spiritual, shaman performances. Thought he could fly....Their sound could’ve filled stadiums here, unbelievable
This has brought back fantastic memories. I have so many live Verve recordings and to find one I havent come across is a splendid surprise! Cheers and please lmknif anyone wants to trade any LIVE VERVE recordings!! Cheers! Happy Holidays!
So this will have been the 2nd or 3rd date of their tour to promote their first single "All In The Mind" which released 9th March 1992. It's interesting that they didn't perform A Man Called Sun on this tour (it was a b-side to the single so they had written the track), yet once they started playing it later that same year it became one of the most consistently played tracks right up until their split in 1995. It was even played in 1997 and during the 2007 reunion.
Man, thanks for sharing! This is such a rarity. I believe this is THE earliest verve footage that exists so far. And such an excellent performance by the whole band!!
Holy Shit! Saw them in Birmingham on this promo tour. About 6 songs running to about 40 minutes, but it was life changing. `Man called Sun`, `All in the mind`, `One way to go`, "She`s a superstar" maybe "Gravity Grave` but it`s hazy now.
Wowwww I echo the sentiments of everyone here whos just seen this new upload. What a RARE find! Also, I do believe this is the earliest known Verve footage Ive ever seen too/that exists on YT... It does predate the Camden one by 6 months as P points out. Thank you so much for sharing this. What a band. The best. x
I bow to your efforts. Thank you so much for uploading this. I can watch a group play a gig I've been in love with since 1992, that I myself didn't see play until 1995 at the Duchess of York in Leeds and the Roadhouse in Manchester (also on RUclips).
Wow thanks for this, got their first single as a Stone Roses substitute, couldn't understand why they weren't bigger over the next few years. Then boom they were number 1, and I thought about time too!
I saw them when a band I played with supported them 13th July 1991 at St Helens Citadel...our engineer that night ended up being their guitar tech years later when they reformed in 2007..RIP Rex Sargeant
It was lost. Only one copy was known to still exist and there were doubts about it having survived but it was suddenly found yesterday, rushed over to me and here it is ...... great news, what a relief !!!

Honestly I think he always was. I just wish he was as happy/comfortable in their later gigs as he was in this one. Him and Richard are, talent-wise, inseparable. But as I always say, if Richard was the heart of the band, Nick was its soul. And, of course, I’m not forgetting Peter, Jones, and Tong. What a band.
Does it annoy any of you when music journalists etc call them" Britpop"? Not only did they predate Britpop but musically, they were waaaay ahead of Britpop!
They did change their sound quite a lot though. This would have been called shoegaze back then and was not that different from bands like Ride and MBV. The term Britpop was coined in about 1995 and Verve sounded much different by then. This sound only really lasted one album.
Imagine you are going out for a drink with your friends and see a band play that you have never heard of. And then you get to witness THIS!!!

One could argue this was the greatest gig ever played by anyone. Its almost like a dream that never happened.

Massive upload. 1992 footage of Verve is scarce and that is when they were at their best imo. Huge thanks for uploading this.
