The best loops cut in the middle. Start at the end like "I'm always wondering, what's the deal with hand dryers" and cut to the beginning at the end so it loops on the comma. It's way more smooth 😎
Fun facts, hours mins and seconds are all divisible by 6 because 6 can be split into halves, quarters, AND thirds (more fun fact on that they used to use a mathematical system divisible by 6 instead of by 10 for that same reason (easy split into halves, quarters, and thirds)
fwiw, one of the messages of spirited away is about how modern beliefs eroded some of japan's traditional, more spiritual-oriented values. for example, it's the greed of the parents, finding food and assuming that they can just buy it because they have money that gets them turned into pigs. also, the workers in the hotel are clearly exploited - they do all the work to service the river god who showers the bathhouse with gold, but the owner of the bathhouse, yubaba, takes all the gold for herself and rewards the staff with sake "on the house" (like throwing a pizza party for record profits). no face also originally just enjoys the hospitality of the bath but becomes corrupted by the greed of the houseworkers who are willing to do anything for money. he is only "cured" and becomes harmless again when he leaves the system and lives in the woods with yubaba's "good" twin. i feel like modern audiences might not get the messages because the stuff in the movie is just actually how things work today, but these things would've been seen as pretty obviously bad for those who didn't grow up with today's form of all-powerful capitalism as the default system
also, days are not the baseline definition and then subdivided into hours and minutes and seconds. that may have been how things started, but today, there is a standard definition that makes seconds the baseline. a second is defined as the time that elapses during 9 billion cycles of a very specific type of radiation.
I honestly hard disagree with him on that, that was one of the funniest segments of this podcast, ever, maybe. Hearing Jordan’s Ron impression, “MEESA GONNA CUM” and Jackson’s Spongebob noises is something I may never forget.
My toxic personality trait is waiting for the underdogs to upload the podcast on youtube then only listening to the audio even though I know I can get it earlier on spotify
Jordan's "When were seconds invented" or whatever actually got me curious, so I did a quick wikipedia. Turns out we've sort of had seconds since before the Ancient Greeks, but back then it wasn't 1/60th of 1/60th of an hour, it was 1/60th of 1/60th of a day. They were using sundials, and divided the actual surface of the sundial into 60 minutes, and then each minute into 60 seconds. 1 (old-style) second is literally how long it would take the shadow on the sundial to move 1/3600th of the way around the circle. We still use the terminology today. We have 360 degrees in a circle, 1/60th of one degree is called an arcminute, and 1/60th of that is called an arcsecond. Also I bet sundials are why we have 24 hours in a day, but only 12 hours on our clocks. Sundials don't work at night. You can only really use it for 12 hours a day anyway.
Frankensence and mir (idk spellings) were insanely valuable because they were only grown in a specific place in arabia. One of them has anti microbial properties. Also because cities were big gross stinky place incense was one of the only ways to get rid of the smells. Alot of temples would use it to "purify"
Also with the coming of Christianity it lost alot of it value cause it was seen as pagan. That's why the trade hub of Petra( one of coolest places on earth) came to a city of ruin
51:17 time came from the Mesopotamians s who used base 60 (they also made the zodiac signs and other important asteonomy advancements), however the exact reason as to why they used base 60 is unknown. Fun fact, they used Pythagoreans therom thousands of years before puthagoras himself
I really liked the conversation about motivation. I remember in college when I had to write essays, i would write a paragraph, then play a match of League. Then another paragraph into another match. I basically did this with all my papers to motivate me to finish but also cuz if i write for too long, my brain says "fuck it" and writes worse.
the funny thing is, they already talked about a feastables review in a previous episode, and somebody had the idea of "feastable jeastables" Also where tf was the commantment, the underdogs are supposed to support antism
40:00 “How many chances do you have to stay at home in your life?” is so unironically inspirational

I agree, some of their bigger solo videos are fun but the real magics in the underdogs - shame youtubes not recommending their content enough

Frankly I think the worst take Jordan has made was that we should be living in crocodiles way back in the Mr. Beast review episode.
