I want you to know I started many videos about Florida zone 9b plants...yours is the only one worth watching the whole program. I just moved into my last home! I want to design a garden that can become my refuse after work. I have inherited several plants with the house...that the realtor gathered and planted haphazardly. She admitted most of what she planted were ate by the wild rabbits. There are several climbers and some plants I am unsure of. Thank you for this video. I am really looking forward to seeing all your videos!
Hi! Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm working night and day to create content to help as many people as possible with their South Florida gardens. And congratulations on your home! If you have any specific questions about how to get your your garden growing, just send me an email (letsgrowdesignhelp@gmail.com) or place a comment here. I will do my best to help you with some tips.
Awesome! I hope you can get a sandpaper vine too! Soooo pretty when she blooms, There is also a white variety available too; Petra volubis ‘alba, quite beautiful as well.😀🪴
Hi Michael. I stumbled upon this video and channel by accident. I was searching for South Florida gardening videos and this one popped up -- and it made me so happy! I live in South Florida and because of Covid and my underlying health condition, I haven't been to a nursery in over a year -- and the one featured in this video is one of my favorites. In fact, now that I've received both vaccinations, I'm counting down the days to be able to make some nursery visits/purchases to tackle some of the landscaping projects I've stared at for the past year. (I've made do with weeding and growing things from cuttings and harvested seeds.) I'm looking forward to exploring more of your videos. Have a great day -- and thanks again for this.
Thank you for your kind comment. I am so glad you found our channel. But I am even more glad that you received your vaccinations! And If there are any gardening videos in particular that you are interested in let me know, we are trying our best to create content that adds value to your gardening needs. Cheers and happy gardening.
Michael, you did a great job on this video. Very informative, and the plant list at the end shows that you are someone who goes "above and beyond". Could you share the name of the nursery you visited so that we can visit there as well?
Thank you! The 2 nurseries we visited are adjacent to each other, the first one is called Living Color Garden Center (retail), the second nursery is called Black Olive East (wholesale). It’s probably far too late to ask this question but where can I find a list from the first section, the flowering plants? I recently relocated to the Clearwater area after spending my whole life in Key West and I have the space and time to garden now and I am particularly interested in flowering species. I am actually familiar with all of the plants that you showed but I have not tried to grow most of them as in Key West they were already there! If you see this thank you in advance, also if it’s here right in front of me and I don’t see it I apologize as I am fairly new to RUclips. Just found your channel. So informative. I have to have a look around your channel. We just purchased a new construction home and the soil is very sandy. Can we plant in that? Or do we have to replace it with soil. I have experience this and I’m new to gardening. Thanks
Welcome! On sandy soil, some plants will do fine (coastal plants like railroad vine, beach daisy, silver buttonwood, seagrape, coconuts) other plants may need some potting mix/ work castings added. It all depends on the plants you choose for your garden. Hope this was helpful.😀🪴
Pilea microphylla. Super cool low ground cover to about 12" tall. Bright yellow green tiny leaves, easy to propagate. I planted a lot of it in my miami shores home as a bedding plant. hope this helps😀🪴
Hi Michael, I just came upon you channel and I am new to South Florida. Do you have any ideas for plants that will do well in containers. I don’t have a large space but would love to add ‘color’ to my containers around my property. Thank you
Hi, thats a great question! I get that same question from clients and other folks quite often. As to what plants with COLOR do well in containers (small to medium size)- I have had great success with, baby sun rose, hoyas, desert rose, hybiscus, croton, coleus, lantana, cone ginger, lantana, pentas, song of india draceana, begonias, bleeding hearts, geraniums, reed stem orchids and many more! Other plants, that are not know for colorful punch, but that do well in containers (small to medium size)- I have had great success with green island ficus, dwarf schefflera, elephant bush, peperomias, pothos, snake plants, spider plants (hanging basket), spider lily, green draceana varieties, ZZ plants, cast iron plants, macho fern, bleeding hearts, liriope, mondo grass, some juniper varieties, some agaves/cactus, false agave, reed stem orchids and more... And for big trees and palms in larger containers in full sun I had great success with: coconut plams, thatch palms, jatrophas, lemon trees, frangipani pudica, vetchia plams, christmas palms, and... palms for shady areas- lady plams/ areca plams & Kentia palms. Note: areca palms will do well in full sun but leaves will turn yellow and I dont like that look- but in the shade Areca looks great! Hope this helps you. And stay tuned to our channel, i'm sure to do a future video on this topic. 😃🪴
