Is there delivery from grocery stores to apartments? I don't have a car at all-- am considering Section 8 one bedroom in downtown Portland (preferably Old Port, but whatever), I am 72 years old, (would probably need parking space that came with apartment for relatives or guests). I am in Boston now, won a housing lottery 20 years ago (used to be a human services professional with Master's) and they can't kick me out unless the rent goes above the rent control board's approval. So I am really curious about how to feel secure spending my last years and not being worried about landlord kicking me out, losing a voucher, etc. I also used to spend summers in Midwest Maine and love the feel everywhere - beaches, small villages, etc, and wonder if there are services to drive you to places in or near Portland with beaches, etc. I love ar and music. My mobility is limited so when you talk about hills I need to be living nearer flat areas, or flatter! I really would consider any area that is not more than a 15 minute walk to water, shops, etc. or so that is safe and has a lot of resources. Any thoughts?
Hi - So why skip so much truth about our city and let people know what they’re REALLY in for if they come here? Why not tell all those potential newcomers about all the new African immigrants being shipped to and flooding into the city and the surrounding area?(currently 400 immigrant families are in hotels waiting for new public housing to be built.) Maybe mention that there have been two random murders in Portland in as many months, in a town of less than 70,000 people and that didn’t know what violet crime was just a decade ago? Or how about our massive influx of drug addicts and homeless, shipped here by the literal bus load every single day. Every day. Don’t want to take my word for it? Ask our local firefighters or first responders. Maybe you should mention the fact that a majority of our city council members are members of the Democratic Socialists of America, causing a heavy amount of new draconian fees, taxes and regulations? The panhandlers that greet you on nearly every major intersection who have been allowed to be there with no oversight by court order? Or that Maine trades people are unregulated and unlicensed, and are some of the most dishonest and commonly sued in the nation? Or how about Maine having the 6th highest electricity rates in the nation? And currently the greater Portland Maine area leading the nation with some of the most expensive gas prices in the country? Our required and regulated trash bags are $1.75 per bag. $1.75 per trash bag. No mention of that either. The erratic way that businesses keep business hours? While pontificating about all things Portland, you seem to miss all of these things. Or, Do you actually even live here? East End resident here, property owner and have been here 14 years. Literally one of the most horrible decisions in our life and as soon as we’re done remodeling our home, I will celebrate the day I see this beautiful, yet dangerously dysfunctional, political living-and-breathing, weird place in my rearview mirror. If you really want to be an expert on Portland, Maine, be brave and let folks know what they’re really in for. Much more of a headache than the surface charm would imply.

I heard this is it actually true from a long term resident ? Im from Miami and looking to relocate somewhere brand new and as peaceful as the NE (specifically Portland) seemed I see a lot of this , very unfortunate they are ruining Europe and the USA
