    While Pita Limjaroenrat has good intentions for Thailand, a thing to watch for is how the Move Forward Party relates to certain crucial institutions. Reforming such institutions requires consulting most if not all sectors across the country. Making drastic decisions without making appropriate consultations leaves everyone disoriented.

  • @jdmjdm2304
    @jdmjdm2304 5 месяцев назад

    In Thailand's democratic framework, with the monarch as the head of state, the prevalence of military coups is a distinctive aspect, earning the country the unfortunate distinction of having the most military coups in the world. With 57 out of the 85 years between 1932 and 2517 being governed by military or former military prime ministers, Thailand's political landscape has witnessed significant upheavals. It's crucial to emphasize that the recent Constitutional Court, established in 2017 during the military government, is set against a backdrop of political turbulence.
    Mr. Pita and the Move Forward Party have expressed a deep conviction that amending the lese majesty law is crucial. They argue that without such amendments, the law could be abused, potentially becoming a pretext for further military coups. This concern underscores their commitment to democratic principles and the protection of civil liberties.
    Despite Mr. Pita winning the 2023 election, challenges emerged as out of 250 senators appointed by the pro-military government with the right to vote for the prime minister, 237 voted against Mr. Pita holding the position. Furthermore, these senators pledged not to support any candidate as prime minister if their party forms a coalition with the Move Forward Party, fearing potential amendments to the lese majesty law.
    Mr. Pita and the Move Forward Party assert the critical need to amend the lese majesty law to prevent its abusive use, even as the Bhumjaithai Party suggested that Mr. Pita could gain their support by abandoning this initiative. However, such a choice would carry risks, as there was no guarantee that the Bhumjaithai Party would honor their commitment. If they reneged on their word, Mr. Pita would not only lose the opportunity to assume power but also risk credibility with those who supported him and the Move Forward Party for their commitment to amending the law.
    Importantly, the Move Forward Party maintained its integrity by honoring promises made to the people, standing firm on its commitment to never back down on any pledges made during the election. This steadfastness underscores their dedication to the principles they advocated for during the electoral process.
    Specifically, the period from 1995 to 2017, predating the current court's formation, witnessed the dissolution of 110 political parties, raising concerns among democracy advocates. In the contemporary scenario, over 200 individuals face imprisonment for violating lese majesty laws, with sentences ranging from 3 to 50 years-exceeding the standard 3 to 15 years and even surpassing the 20-year maximum for first-degree murder. This law has been utilized by politicians to suppress opposition and dissolve rival parties, even sparking accusations between neighbors rooted in personal animosities.
    In the context of this complex political landscape, Mr. Pita's case gains prominence, as the court ruled his attempt to amend the royal defamation law as treasonous. This ruling has ignited concerns about the potential dissolution of the Move Forward Party, closely tied to the actions of the Constitutional Court formed during the military government in 2017.

    Srsly, even Singapore can't understand that Thailand elect a representative, of which promised to vote for PM candidate?
    If you insist that this is not democracy, please do the same for US election too.

      We still support Pita, and pita did not want to use violation. Pita used the Parliament fight for people 'right, not the violation on street.

      @@thatcharpichitchar8024agreed. Violation in the past driven by greedy people. Pita, on the other hand, cares for people rather than using people to fight for him. Imagine what if Pita try to create chaos which he didn’t do it. Respect.
