Having to replace the cards all the time, since turns are so quick, is the one downside with Majesty. This Kingdomino-esque tile drafting seems like a better way to do this.

100% agreed, and the tiles just physically feel less fiddly too.

Not really, you don't just have to place the tiles, you have to sort them and then flip them . And now the game is 16 turns instead of 12 (which unnecessarily lengthens the play, for a game of this type, and even more so if you add a 5th player). Also, the cards are easily stacked by type in your playing area, now with the tiles that is impossible and takes up much more space on the table.

Yeah, it's great to see this game seeing the light of day again.

    Seems pretty underrated

Incredibly underrated. The original (Majesty) was a Z-Man game that kind of just surfaced during a GEN CON back in the day. This is a better version, and many people just have never played it before.

@@meeple I am, but wasn't sure I should get this too.

I honestly think that now that I've been able to play both versions, I think I'll just leave Majestic on my shelf. I don't see a significant difference in changing an old and common card river selection mode and meeple economy for the more modern but also common selection system of Kingdomino and Floriferous, considering everything that's left out because of that. The plastic coins (although it's great that there are now coins worth 5) and the double cards. In addition, there's a loss of rhythm, before you only had to count the cards in a quick glance, now you have to look for icons on your board. In addition, you have to score every 4 turns due to the event. I don't know if the fact that the windmill adds one more point of negative interaction to a family game like this is right (the windmill could actually take away 2 coins and the barracks a tile and not a tile and 2 coins). I like the option of being able to upgrade your engine due to the palace and the church (for me the best addition to this version), but I don't know if the new scoring method really convinces me. Also, although the art and aesthetics are nice at the same time, it lacks personality and you have the feeling of playing an abstract game, although I do like the presence of the puzzle tiles on the table.

100% the theme is light anyways but it feels like the original was better selling it. I just find the little extra sprinkle of interaction, the kingdomino selection, and upgrading make both games worth keeping. I think this one is...slightly better...Jeremy

    Are windmills overpowered?

no I think you have to pay attention to all threats, but I've built engines where two coins barely matters. I think the attack/defense can get out of hand too.
