Greeting from Japan. I have been working at Honda as a automotive mechanic for 2 months and will start heavy automotive mechanic in the future. Your pronunciation is clear for me. Your video helps my studying English and heavy vehicle system. God bless you and your country.
I used to work for a company that used the Cat Eye competitor and we had lots of problems with leaks on those. I used the gator caps on my valve stems and was really happy with those. No little cap to unscrew and dropping it in the dirt or snow. My refer trailer had the Meritor tire inflation system on it that worked great, but I carried spare hoses needle valves and other odds for it on the truck so I could fix any issue on the road. I liked the warning light on the front of the trailer that would come on if you had a low tire. Also when it got colder it corrected the tire pressure automatically.
Definitely one of the best RUclipsrs, no faffing, no preset incidents just down to earth crack on and get it done. Very informative aswell. Cracking result with old red, jealous over the pond here. 🇬🇧
I actually agree with the guys that say they can tell when a tires 10psi low, I've alway's been able to tell when a tires been at lest 15 psi low. You don't hit the tread to find out you hit the side wall where it meets the tread, in 10 years I've noticed by about 90 psi you get just a little bit of jiggle when struck, by 80psi there's a notice-able amount of sidewall vibration when struck. Like you I've done a lot of tires, I could change every tire on a b-train in 1 hour by the time I quit working in the shop to drive truck. I don't know how but some how some people can tell by banging a tire that its a few psi low (I'm one of them) and some guys can't. If I ever get to bump into you on the road I'll even prove it and show you exactly what I mean.
Always a good day when you drop a video Ez! I can't believe you got so many years out of those tyres?! Good driving skills i guess!👍 Cheers and thanks for sharing as usual. 🇭🇲👍🐨🦘🦘🐨👍🇭🇲🇺🇸
cat eyes have been on there that long not the tires. generally get about 2 years out of the tires on that trailer assuming they don't get damaged beyond repair on jobsites ect.

@@paulmartin3340 I can put you in touch with the master of tire preservation. Friend of mine is phenomenal at making his tires and brakes last. He bought a truck 5 years ago with brakes at about 60%, just changed them out late last year, and they were still at 25%. I think he got close to 2 years on his last set of tires
I have never used them, I might buy a set and try them. I do thump tire all day long, there is a noticeable difference at 60 to 70 then 100 thanx for video’s great job
@@Ezrider359 very true, if you buy say Toyo’s they do have a different vibe then Yokohama’s. I am a pretty decent rookie since 1983. Another 6 years I am out of trucking. I truly enjoy your videos
I have them on my truck, and love them. Right now I'm parked in BFE Nebraska, and there's a grain hauler next to me. He's running them too, and it's the first time I've ever seen anyone else with them. Thing is, he's got a neat trick going on. You know how the braided lines rub against your wheels? Well he's got them pinned up against his hubs with what looks like some thick baling wire. Looks slick as hell, and that's the next thing I'm doing when I get home.
Cats Eyes the best thing out there. Installed them on my USAF fleet with dual tires, 20 + vehicles and they are awesome. Would never not use them. Spray some soap on the Cat Eye system to see if they are the source of leaks just like you did. Very simple easy to use system with tons of benefits. One of the first things I'd install if I had a truck.
I never had any luck with the Cat Eyes or the Crossfires! I found that having the right, long valve stems, bent just right, worked best for me! Being able to air up both tires at once was a great feature! Adding all the extra points to fail, (air leaks) always bit me in the ass! A quality dual foot air chuck and gauge are worth the cost! Also a good stainless valve cap with the O-ring is a must JMHO!
The main benefit of this system is equalizing air pressures between tires. Makes it easier to adjust pressures and check during the day. The majority of people do not have leaks. If they leaked then they would be out of business.
I was doing some short haul work north of Minot yesterday. I think the cat eyes are worth it. Only thing I like better is the automatic inflation systems
Excellent video as usual! Thanks for the tips EZ! Wish I could repay you for all that I learned watching your channel. You’re Awesome! Sorry I can’t help with the camera issues. I’m still making videos on my phone. Which reminds me that I should point out that the quality of this one is perfect.
I lived on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for 30 years off and on and when I aired down for beach driving I'd pull the valve core and when the escaping air whistles at a certain note for lack of the correct word I'd put the core in and get 15-18 every time. Just thought that may interest people as it's a local trick passed down from the first pneumatic tires.
In my opinion as a fleet mechanic, hitting tires is only really good to tell if they're anywhere from flat to about 50 psi. However I am pretty good at determining about how much air is in a tire I'm inflating just from the noise the air makes rushing out of the valve stem when I remove the air chuck. Seems to me like once the pressure gets to a certain point, they really just sound the same from then on when you hit them. If you're serious about maintaining your tires, it's always best to have a real gauge checking, and these seem like a nice and easy solution.
leading cause of pre mature tire failure "under inflation" I agree its difficult to tell tire pressure with a hammer but im pretty good at it as I show on one of my videos but to reliably tell within 5psi every time isn't practical. Im gonna get a set of cat eye's
I know abom79 had very similar issues with sound on his set up. If memory serves me correctly he switched to the Rhoads (spelling?) wireless mic set up and has had great luck with it
Maybe just me but I always take my air hose and push just a tad of air thru my tire stem after using a tire gauge I NEVER end the process with the last thing touching the valve stem being the tester. If a valve core is going to possibly stick it's from the using of a tire tester. At least that works for me.
im just starting out with cameras and im pleased your askin for advice and ill watch your comments on this for tips, for 20 odd years i used a tyre iron for my walk around checks till the pressure indicator came on the scene along with the lug nut indicators and they make tyre failure a pretty rare occurance.
I love the hub air compressors having them makes a great difference. It also has a light built in to notify me when the tire is low. Keeps the tires at 95 all the time. I still check each tire with a gauge everyday
Love your videos. Those look like Dyna Cargo tires, which we run as well. We've been very happy with them. The only downside is they've become hard to source lately...
yeah the dyna cargo's have done pretty well. also ran into availability issues last time i went to pick some up and got some duraturns instead with the same tread pattern, so far those seem decent as well.

most tire guys and mechanics don't like them because there a extra step for a truck owner who doesn't want to needless damage tires due to not catching under inflation quickly there the 2nd best thing to a auto inflation system.
@@Ezrider359 I agree. I know they are very beneficial, and don't blame anyone for wanting to preserve their tires, it's just another aggravation, especially connecting the inner, unless I'm doing something wrong
Porter greetings! 🇺🇸 I’ve never used those cat eyes on anything. I was trained to look at each tire, thump them and physically check each tire pressure. You take and all doubt away, but it is time consuming. At least you know though. I know very few guys who can tell the tire pressure from the thump sound! You should always do a physical inspection if your truck/trailer has been sitting a few days or more no matter what. I do that on my van or pickup each week before I start it up. I’ve never priced those things for any truck or trailer, but I can see them being a good investment and time saver! 🤩 This was a good topic that has given me some food for thought! Thanks. I sure love the sound of that Cat engine. Sorry that I don’t have any suggestions on the recording issues. We’ve encountered some compatibility issues with the mics so far. Wow Hero ...My Mom and Dad had the Cats Eye's right after they came out with them...Mom passed away 6 yrs ago suddenly...Dad sold the last Peterbilt we had with the 144 Indiana Custom Trucks Sundowner series sleeper ..But the last 5 trucks had Cat-eyes ..We loved them... Peace ✌️ Love and 18 Wheelz to ya Hero...My Uncle can kick a tire and tell within 5 psi of what it actually is..I still don't believe him tho..lol . But they own 30 Pete's and he's been Truckin' since his teens ....Yes sir I agree with u totally.. Randall will blow your mind ...lol lmao. he's the only one I know if who can tell with a kick... Every time I see him I make him kick a tire then I check with a gauge.. I have no earthly idea how he does it ...He can't tell it with a tire thumper tho...His foot must be calibrated..lol lmao.... Peace ✌️ Love and 18 Wheelz to ya Hero....
I wouldn't know what advice to give you on your audio/video issue, but I know Sasnak (youtube), another truck driver, might know something to help you. Might reach out to him and ask his advice.
Back when I could hear better...I could tell the air pressure difference. Its like musical note. I worked on aircraft, so we still put a gauge on the tire. Can you do it, sure, but should you do it? No. Also, you have to keep in mind...trains have the right of way, on the road...and when recording a video too! LOL
It's a 15 year old dump trailer it's definitely had blowouts before fenders have been run into by careless loader oporators countless times. It's had rocks and concrete chunks dropped on them. They have seen some abuse.
Agreed, they are helpful when doing a pre trip however just like you, I do my own work in the truck and the hassle of removing and reinstalling was a deal breaker for me. I pulled them off within a few months. I just wish there was a decent quality TPMS sensor out there that can connect to a smartphone app.
Smartphones get old and apps stop getting updated after a few years. I use the EezTire system and I have a extra signal booster mounted at the back of my truck at the license plate bracket for the trailer sensors. It works nice and it’s a proven system. I get a little over a year of use out of the batteries.
Some people never understand the pay me now or pay me way more later principle when you let little issues build to big issues. Your maintance program should be used with more fleets. That run equipment Until the preverbial tires fall off or the driver takes a fine for the TEAM
Glad to see this video, been thinking about getting them for my tires cause I don't like messing with airing up tires at 12 & 1 am myself. What's a descent price for them?
So you run the Cat Eye and CentraMatic wheel balancers. How would you say the overall tire service life is being affected. Longer certainly.... the front steer tires get the most abuse.
I slap the tires with my hand...has that hard tin tin sound tone..guess what that don't work either. ...well 50% it does....got back to shop. For grease service. ...one drive tire at 60psi....do much 4 hand slap sounds....
The guys that claim that can accurately gauge pressure with a thumper are the same guys than smell or look at the oil on the dipstick instead of sampling as if they can tell anything useful. If the oil is so bad that you notice a problem with the oil on the dipstick, you’ve probably already done damage to the engine. Same with the tire thumpers, if you notice a low tire, it’s probably been low for days and you’ve already run it under inflated. No shortage of bullshit from truckers, young and old.
the lens cover isn't replaceable on the 8 so the 8 is a no go for me, to many times have i needed to replace the lens cover on my 7. i am considering maybe a 9 or 10
As far as Audio...I run a Gopro Hero 9 Black..and the image is great, but the stabilizing doesnt like vibrations or sudden jerking...which happens on a vehicle! So no dashcam stuff...It needs lights (I use a Milwauke cube light, does the trick). The audio is another issue...Gopro just doesnt like the idea of having external audio...If you do go with them, you need the Mediapack..its an annoying thing that slides around the Gopro so you can put a regular audio jack inside. I run Rode wireless thing, and thats good, batteries last... So the downside is the Gopro itself. It overheats A LOT, and just turns off. It requires all these stupid things just to plug in a lapel mic or lav mic. Its frustrating to now end. I have been using it for my recent episodes, and yeah, its a lot better but its a lot of work and cost me a bundle... Hope it helps. ALso, I would like to know what setup you eventually go to...since I do want something easy to work with.
From my personal experience I bought all 8 for my previous truck. The weight of them threw off the balance of my tires. It was so bad it caused a flat spot and all the tires started bouncing at the same spot as the cat eye. Now I’ve been using a TPMS called EezTire for 2 years and it’s the best thing since sliced bread. It tells me the exact moment I catch a nail on the road and a tire starts going flat. Knock on wood, I’ve never had a blowout since using these and my tires last way longer than they used to.
@@Ezrider359 I’m happy they’re working for you and you seem to really like them. I’m just sharing my experience. I had them installed at a serious tire shop and rotated every 50k as they recommended. I also had Centromatic balancers on the whole truck.
For channels with a good handle on audio&video gear check with the couple at Odd Life Crafting (container house and completely rebuilt 40+ foot sailboat), SERGEI DRATCHEV (Canadian heavy hauler), or of course Twinsticks. Thanks for all your good content. Take care.
The "upcoming" Tesla isn't coming, not anytime soon. There are too many unresolved issues, including lack of infrastructure for charging, overheating of batteries, range of operations on a charge. Parts are going to be a nightmare, your phones battery gets weak after so many charges, the same goes for the tesla batteries. And if you or anyone else actually gives two shits about the environment, you'd be opposed to electric cars and trucks. Lithium mining and disposal is 1000 tines more toxic to the earth than oil drilling. But electric tickles the balls of the tree huggers, it's a feel good measure nothing more.
Great info as always, also do you have any experience with the newer Cummins X15 motors, I’m having some trouble diagnosing some issues and the local dealers are not giving me much feedback.
@@haloreaper1000 Started out with a really bad stumble off of idle, truck would buck like crazy like it was only running on 3 cylinders, happened just about every time I went to start off loaded or empty, went to the dealer and they said without any codes there wasn’t anything they could do for me and the engine needs to break in more. Weeks later got in touch with the Cummins dealer and after several tests they went into the ECM and disabled “Cummins smart acceleration” this alleviated the problem to a certain degree but a slight hesitation still remained and also still had a fuel Knock type of noise. Get the truck back and within the first hour check engine light came on for a fuel pressure related code. Now during this entire time the air throttle would always rapidly close between shifts and when reving and just wasn’t operating properly, the truck then went back to the dealer and they called back within 40 minutes and said they found a loose fuel line that they must have missed tightening back up when they had it the first time, I mentioned the air throttle issue and they seem to think that it’s normal… at this point I’ve spoken to dealers all over the east coast to confirm that the air throttle should not impact drivability in any way, I have had several buddies send me videos of how smooth their engines with free rev and decelerate with no issues
@@haloreaper1000 also to add the truck has always felt down in power, my previous truck had a deleted isx 475/1650 and it would run circles around this one 605/2050

Thanks I always learn something my teacher my teacher
U S trains sound so cool!
LOL
Good morning 🌞
Looking at the fender looks like you already had a blow out
It's a 15 year old dump trailer it's definitely had blowouts before fenders have been run into by careless loader oporators countless times. It's had rocks and concrete chunks dropped on them. They have seen some abuse.
Always a pleasure
Great video
Agreed, they are helpful when doing a pre trip however just like you, I do my own work in the truck and the hassle of removing and reinstalling was a deal breaker for me. I pulled them off within a few months. I just wish there was a decent quality TPMS sensor out there that can connect to a smartphone app.
Smartphones get old and apps stop getting updated after a few years. I use the EezTire system and I have a extra signal booster mounted at the back of my truck at the license plate bracket for the trailer sensors. It works nice and it’s a proven system. I get a little over a year of use out of the batteries.
Once you have done them a number of times only takes a few minutes to remove and re install.
Tire thumper? does that come with a pair of driving gloves? Try me with my Redwings and toes! I’ll detect a low tire all day long
Phones are probably good enough, no down loading time, load it while taking a dump, without extra crap.
Some people never understand the pay me now or pay me way more later principle when you let little issues build to big issues.
Your maintance program should be used with more fleets. That run equipment Until the preverbial tires fall off or the driver takes a fine for the TEAM
a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
@@Ezrider359 yes so true thank you for your great videos you are a inspiration of what real trucking is about NO BS real deal
Glad to see this video, been thinking about getting them for my tires cause I don't like messing with airing up tires at 12 & 1 am myself. What's a descent price for them?
think link i provided in the description is a good price, but feel free to shop around.
Have you done a video on your various trailers?
Good luck 👍 thanks
Yes sir cool video 👍
whats up havent heard from you for a while everything going alright
So you run the Cat Eye and CentraMatic wheel balancers. How would you say the overall tire service life is being affected. Longer certainly.... the front steer tires get the most abuse.
Hello there bud ✌️👍
Отличное приспособление!
I heard the hero 8 black is pretty good. Thinking about getting one myself.
the lens cover isn't replaceable on the 8 so the 8 is a no go for me, to many times have i needed to replace the lens cover on my 7. i am considering maybe a 9 or 10
Sorry for the plubic service message EZ but i'm doing my part at 70 to try and save our country.
In 6-700,000 miles iv not experienced any unusual tire wear caused by the weight
Take care.
Question?
What do you think of Electric Tractors?
Like the Daimler eCascadia?
Or the upcoming Tesla Semi?
I enjoy your videos.
Including this one.
☮
there not for me
The "upcoming" Tesla isn't coming, not anytime soon.
Can you go over the air brake plumbing on the truck…there no way to get the schematic and mine is completely apart
Have you seen the Halo Automatic Tire Inflator? I am looking into getting aset or my truck
Great info as always, also do you have any experience with the newer Cummins X15 motors, I’m having some trouble diagnosing some issues and the local dealers are not giving me much feedback.
I've driven a w9 with one. Good motors if you do your services every 20k miles. What's the issues ur having
@@andrewcox7416 what kind of fuel filter system do you have on it? Davco or is it the paccar one?
@@haloreaper1000 I’m not positive to be honest with you
I can tell what you had for dinner last night by thumping the tires . . .
Bag of 50 or 100 valve cores on Amazon are really low cost.
Iv got a big box of them I bought from Napa a number of years ago and still have a bunch
