Hi Everyone! Thank you so much for the feedback on this video! So many of you have been asking the same couple of questions, so I added a FAQ section in the description of the video as well as some links to other videos talking about the deferral process at other top schools. Remember, every school is slightly different, so if you were deferred from another school, try to research their process specifically! Many of you have been asking me to look over your deferral letters too! I will try to get to them all asap, but if you're interested you can definitely still email or DM me! Good luck everyone!
Thank you so much Crystal King. This is really helpful and I am so happy you could reach out to me and other Harvard deferred applicants. I hope I can turn my deferral into an admit too!!! I definitely subscribed and really hope to see more application-related materials. Thank you!!!
Your video was resourceful and helpful. Got deferred from Harvard College for the class of 2025 and I have been lost in wonder after tapping on the close button of my mailbox but your shared experiences have revived my hopes. Thanks 🙏
😱, that was so amazing, I would consider it as an example to my future admission process, as I am in high school, but applying to Harvard always has been one of my biggest dream, so I hope I can enter, even it would be until the class of 2028, but anyway I am so excited, thanks!!!
your deferral letter is AMAZING; quite literally speechless rn by how much u accomplished!! i got deferred from columbia, and i'm thinking abt attaching a writing excerpt after my letter. i went the passion project route with my application and centered it around speech/writing, but this year i've gotten v into activism through creative writing and wanted to give them the option to view one of my pieces. do you think that'd be appropriate? i saw someone do smth similar w yale, but i'm still not too sure abt it
Hey!! I have a little question, would you suggest sending the Letter of continued interest and extra letters of recommendation at the same time? or could I send my letter first and wait around a week and half more to send the others?
Hi! I was also deferred, and I personally plan to send my letter after giving it some time. I have projects and experiences that are coming up or haven't been completed yet, and describing those will definitely strengthen my letter. Waiting sounds like it'll help me, so maybe the same can go for you :)
Hi! You can absolutely send it a bit later, but my suggestion would be sometime mid January as that is when they will start reviewing applications again. If you are planning on doing more during this time, you can absolutely include details about what you’re planning on doing and your goals and update that in your LOCI!
How many pages was your letter? I don't know what the maximum or minimum number of pages is for the :Letter or Continued Interest. Thank you! Loved your video.
Hi Crystal, Thank you again for the video! When you submitted you recommendation letters through the Applicant Portal, did you attached them as miscellaneous or as academic work? Thanks again!
Hi Crystal! I recently got deferred from Harvard haha. I wanted to know how you sent additional recommendation letters. Is it through common app? I have already sent them all four recommendation letters so I wasn't sure how to add additional letters. ty!
Hi Dana, good question! I attached my additional ones that didn't fit into commonapp at the end of a pdf file after my LOCI and submitted it together on the Harvard applicant portal. (yes, this means my recommenders had to give me access to the letters, but luckily for me, most of them were extracurricular based and didn't care about letter confidentiality.) This was also considered an "unofficial" recommendation since it wasn't uploaded by my recommenders directly, although I believe they still contributed to my application. If you are submitting them unofficially, including letterheads, signatures, and contact information are good support to show it is coming from a real source.
Hi. Thanks for your exceptional advice. I have a question: how should I send my mid year report, since I already submitted my application to all the colleges I applied to? Thank you in advance.
Hey Crystal, I was just wondering what the best way to submit a deferral letter is? Just email it to the admissions office? Same thing for an additional rec... how should I have them send it in?
Every school is a bit different. For Harvard, I submitted everything through the portal in a combined PDF. However, I've heard that Harvard might have emailed out a personal link the submit additional recommendation letters that you can submit through there
Hii! do you know where to send the letter of continued interest? should I upload it to the portal or send it to a specific email? Btw great video!!!❤️❤️❤️
Hey just got deferred! Can I send my loci early without any major accomplishments (I have exams going on ) or should I wait? Also can we send the loc later than the letter of continued interest?
My recommendation would be send everything during mid January! There’s not a hard deadline so it’s okay if things are sent at different times but this would be best to ensure that they see your letter along with the rest of your application when they start reviewing again
This was so helpful - thank you soo much :) I just got deferred from my dream school and I was thinking of sending an extra letter of recommendation but they say they advise against it. Did Harvard say the same?? Do you recommend me to send one - I think it will add to my application.
HI Anika! What school is it? I would definitely go online to search for other people that have been deferred from your specific school and see what their experience is. Every school has a slightly different policy on LOCI's and etc. I actually personally contacted Harvard to ask, and they said they could accept them. If your school strongly emphasizes not to send in a recommendation, I would listen to them. However, if they don't say much about it and you believe your recommendation can bring something different and substantial to your application, I think you can go ahead and send it!
@@CrystalKingMusic Thank you so much! It's Columbia - I think that's a great idea - I should probably just go ahead and email them to see what works best :)
If a college says no additional information is required should I still send the a email just telling them I’m still very interested in the school etc etc
It depends on the college! There is a very big difference between saying no additional information is required and please do not send additional information. Check to see if any other students have been deferred from your school before and what they did!
Hi I’m from Belgium and I’ve been dreaming of Harvard for as long as I can remember I’m now a freshman in high school and I’ve signed up for a program what will allow me to spend my last two years of high school in America, I’ve also been taking extra English classes... i’d love to spend my college years at Harvard but I know it’s nearly impossible :( but I will give it a try :) meanwhile I’m waiting till I’m old enough are there things I can do to increase my chances? I’m sorry for my bad English 😅
Thanks for reaching out! You're still very early in the college application process, so not to worry. Be on the lookout for future videos with application tips and feel free to contact me separately with specific questions

You’re so sweet! On the portal there should be directly a place to upload new information in the form of a PDF.

Hi Crystal,
Thank you again for the video! When you submitted you recommendation letters through the Applicant Portal, did you attached them as miscellaneous or as academic work?
Thanks again!
Honestly, I don't really remember! I attached them directly after the LOCI in one PDF file, so I would say its more miscellaneous.
how should I format my letter? Thank you so much for the information!
Hi Monica! What do you mean by formatting exactly? I just sent it in a pdf with my letters on paragraph form
