It Was Written is finally gettin the love and respect it deserves. Nas was impeccable on every single track and showed so much growth. As far as I’m concerned he dropped back to back classics with Illmatic and this one.
Despite illmatic being my favorite hip hop album of all time, I actually agree. It took me about a decade to fully accept that Nas' rhymes actually improved on It Was Written; they're tighter, in theme, and more concise to the topic. Illmatic was his best lyrics cut and pasted together.

I give you power alone was the reason why I fell in love with this album & Black girl lost. It was some shit I could've relate to because I was a young street nigga & getting sent to jail a lot & that album really saved my life basically. If I rule the world was the song that really made me look at the world different & made me want to leave the street life for good & at that time I also had my first daughter so I had to get my life together.I even told that to Nas face to face when I've met him in early 98 at a show he did with the Firm & when I met him I literally cried man. This album saved my life.
