    The challenge in high speed cameras is RAM/Buffer memory. You wouldn't believe the size of 3 seconds of raw footage. Depending of the amount of fps you recorded, those 3 seconds can last more than a hour at 60fps playback. And that have to be stored in the buffer memory, without any compression, because no flash memory is fast enough to catch it in real time. This is only one aspect on why those puppies are so expensive.

    Hopefully people out there can appreciate just how amazing this detail is at this level of fps, this is amazing detail! 14.5kusd / 16kusd is alot of money, but for what it is, it's reasonable. So many (even reputable brands) will be sneaky by saying it's 4k, then you get to the product specs and realize it's 1080 at most for high fps. Love the videos, keep up the good work.

    damn i think the Q12 is the way to go over the 4K12 because it wins for number of frames at comparable resolution and the q12 needs less light. i have the 1.4 and and find the biggest limitation is light and there is only so much you can do to find a lens with a good t-stop when the sensor is a postage stamp. really exciting Kron Tech! I followed the original Kickstarter closely and have found the tech support years later to be excellent.

    Can you get higher frame rates (above 1K) on cropped images? The older camera could do that. I forgot to ask Dave on the announcement and teardown video he did a few days ago.

    Looking really good! Looking forward to videos with this new camera. Also maybe explore the even faster fps settings with lower resolution maybe. Probably ~4000 fps on 1080p and 8-9000fps on 720p

    Great Demo! However, I must ask the next question because when it comes to "true" 1K p/s frame rate cameras, the base price for the camera bodies start around $80,000 to $90,000 USD. So, a $5,000 USD "true" 1000 fps camera appears to me to be unlikely.
    Please forgive me if I seem doubtful, but is this 4K Kronos actually recording 1000 fps, or is it injecting an X-number of frames that the internal AI firmware generates, between each frame that it actually records at a rate of maybe 240 fps?
    I don't know if I'm making myself clear but an example of what I mean would be a camera that actually records between 120 and 240 fps.
    Then the internal firmware uses an AI logarithm to create duplicates of the recorded frames, but with a very slight change in each image it creates that is based on the predicted motion, trajectory, and velocity it calculates from the recorded frame before, and recorded frame after, the slot that the AI generated frames will be inserted.
    I'm not saying that the Kronos 4K is doing this but I am asking if it is. However, if the Kronos 4K is depending on an AI logarithm, then the subject matter it can record would be very limited to basically, simple, linear, and predictable subject motion, much like the demonstrations.
    Even the fire ignition demonstration in your video can be handled by the AI logarithm because of the predictable progression. But if the Kronos did use that AI logarithm process, there's no way to be sure that the AI generated frames it created depict an "exact" rendition of that action unless a very expensive, certified, high-speed camera recorded the same event and then both cameras were played back at the same time for comparison (if you see my point).
    Chaotic, asymmetrical, motion would confound the AI logarithm and the results would be a very poor quality image at best. Many smartphones use this process and make inaccurate claims of 1K fps. Of course, the results and the quality are laughable if not abysmal.
    Also, some subjects in nature such as the very fast and complex motion of a spider building a web, a hummingbird, bat, or bumble bee, in flight, and many other subjects of that kind, would almost certainly appear to have 'skipping' or 'jumping', or dropped frames when played back.
    Anyway, if in fact the Kronos is actually recording each of the 1000 frames, then it is incredible to see such an affordable price. At any rate, thanks again for a great demo!
    Rich

    • @fireandcopper

      In terms of bitrate being saved, it's absolutely pixels per second

    • @schwuzi
      @schwuzi 10 месяцев назад +4

      I think it is pixels. It can record up to 12 billion pixels per second. This turns out to roughly 1450 fps at 4k resolution. If you record at lower resolutions, let's say 720p, the camera can go up to around 13000 fps.
