"Begin the Beguine" is a song written by Cole Porter (18911964). Porter composed the song at the piano in the bar of the Ritz Hotel in Paris. In October 1935, it was introduced by June Knight in the Broadway musical Jubilee produced at the Imperial Theatre in New York City.
The beguine music form comes from Martinique where in local Creole Beke or Begue means a White person. Beguine is the female form of Begue and it is a combination of Latin and French dance music forms that once created was frequently requested by the hostesses of dances in Martinique. From there requests for the form had spread to Paris.

THE best!!!!! I had the privilege of seeing them live - fabulous. 2nd to none, then nor now.
Dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed in France twice. Mom played this Mantovani tune frequently on our Grundig radio/record player. The white curtains billowed at the windows in our living room with a summer breeze. Oh, to relive those days. As teens, we took so much for granted.

I’m trying to identify the tree in the water. If it was a Cypress knee like the ones that grow on the water in Florida it would have knees growing around it; the bird on the branch would most likely have been an ‘Anhinga’ but it’s not.
