- Had to Replace the Clutch Cable on my 2001 Yamaha YZF 600R
I couldn't find a video on RUclips on ‘How To’ do that, so I decided I would make a video on ‘How To Replace the Clutch Cable on a Yamaha YZF 600R aka Yamaha Thundercat.
It was surprisingly easy and I saved over $270 buying the parts and replacing the clutch cable and lever myself.
I would put links to where you can buy these parts online however I don’t have enough Subscribers to qualify as an Referral Affiliate on Amazon or Ebay, so if you want those types of links in the description of my future videos, Definitely SUBSCRIBE now.
DISCLAIMER: My bike is a stripped down Street Fighter style motorcycle, so if you are looking for a tutorial on how to remove the fairings, this is not it, however you can revise these steps for your motorcycle.

You've missed the most important step! See the plastic black cap on the sprocket cover? Pull it off and underneath is the clutch pin adjustment! Loosen the nut, loosen the cross head bolt then slowly re-tighten it until you just start to feel resistance. Back it off quarter of a turn then tighten the locknut whilst holding the bolt in place. Replace the cap and take it for a test ride. Also, the lever should have a couple of mm play when all set up correctly.
Another little tip.
If you have the fairing on your bike you can remove the black plastic on the top of the left fairing, cut the clutch cable after the metal bend where it goes into the clutch lever, then tape the bottom of the new clutch cable to the top of the old one. That way you can thread it through the bike by pulling the old cable from the bottom until you see the new one.
Take the tape off and away you go. Using this method I didn’t need to remove the clutch lever or fairing.
The day my cable came in was the day you posted this and I can’t thank you enough love the videos on these keep em coming!
Perfect timing, just ordered one! Thanks for the video JP
Happy I could help!
Thank you for the video. My only suggestion would be to lower the background music's volume and raise the verbal instructions volume.
Thanks mate from Australia I have to change mine tonight!

I've replaced using this but my new clutch table has no play? It's ajusted all the way at the lever
Quick question sir did u delete the ram air tubes and just leave open on frame
Yeah, i lost those ram air tubes long ago
Nice video ! Very helpful although i have a different model .one thing is you called the shifter a clutch pedal .that was a little confusing .otherwise thsnks for posting !!
sorry about that
i just got a yzf 600 i was out riding the other day and the clutch handle got really easy to pull and no it wont work any ideas what that would be?
Can't tell from here but that's a signal that you need to replace the clutch cable. Check the wire on both ends of your clutch cable. If the clutch cable is intact then maybe check the cable wire adjustment at the top of your clutch lever to insure that there is enough tension to engage your clutch.
Do you know what that contact switch underneath the lever is?
Not sure which part you mean
Thanks .may GOD bless you with alot of hairs .
My cable its the same than yours, I did exactly steps, but the cable clutch done weird without pressure, (have pressure but not too much like always) I dont know why its the exactly same cable clutch help me brooo
Have you adjusted the tension on the clutch lever?
It's also important to make sure the clutch cable has some tension.
