There is something about the synth engine on the Stage 2 which just sounds so fresh and retro at the same time, hope the Stage 3 is still just as capable.
3 cheers for Joe Jackson! Thanks for your great videos, Woody. After owning the Electro 1 & 5, I've broken down and pre-ordered the Stage 3 Compact. (Btw, owned a D-20 in the late '80s, too! LOL)
Woody Piano Shack Likely to arrive early August. The Electro 5D would've been around for longer, but I wanted "one board to rule them all". Would love to get your take on the new synth since they've borrowed from the A1. If I lived in the UK, I'd loan it out to you for a review!
Actually, all the Piano sections of all current generation Nords are capable of loading the same samples. So the NS2 and the NE4 can have the same sparkletop piano.
this looks like the SW action, any thoughts versus the HP or HA or Nord piano or actual more piano oriented actions? (apart from the obvious- I have an electro 6 hp and for a lot of reasons wondering if a stage 3 compact is more what i need with the splits layers, just don't want the cost or weight of the 88 key, and frankly the hp action doesn't really even feel that amazing)
Hope you get a chance to play a Korg Kronos 2 88key . You can make many splits and transition from one sound to another with no cutoff which Kronos is the only board that can do that.
Woody, I’m a new subscriber having recently found your excellent channel. I’ve just started to explore the arpeggiator on my Stage 2and wondered if you could share the settings you had for the final tune you played. I was trying to recreate it as an exercise but am having trouble matching the patterns. Also, do you need to use the master clock to sync the arp on slots A and B?
hi paul, thx for the kind words. i don't have the stage any more, and therefore not the settings. yeah, i would have synced the arps to internal clock.
Well it’s a great review, as all the rest of your reviews. You’re great fun to watch, and very informative. I hope you will do a Nord Stage 3 review sometime soon. Seems to be a massive upgrade from the Stage 2. Cheers!
I'm interested into the SW vs HP keybed. Could you make a video comparing both? I'm considering selling my NE4HP since i found the keybed very unpleasant.
I'm pretty conflicted on whether i should get the semi-weighted SW73, or the hammer action HA76. I play quite a bit of jazz, but I'm in a pop/rock band too. I love weighted keyboards but the HA76 is about £400 more expensive and quite a bit heavier. How did you find the SW73's action? I'm really worried that it will feel super light-weight - I like some resistance in my keys. What's your opinion?
the 73 does not have super light keys. not weighted but they need a firm push, so you're not accidentally triggering wrong notes if you're a bit sloppy (like me). another couple of points in favour of 73 over 76hp that you may not have considers - 73 much lighter and more compact, 73 has rucksack soft case, the 76 has much more expensive wheeled case. plus a lot of guys critisize the action of the 76. but i've not tried one. one thing about the 73 keys, they are quite short, with not much leverage as a result, which is a bit weird, but i don't mind.
I see. I'll probably just buy the SW73 then, I'll be gigging and jamming quite a bit in the city next semester so the light weight, portability will be crucial. Thanks for the super quick response!
Woody Piano Shack nice! we've been burning wood since 1979. I just need to take a my electro down stairs and put it beside the fireplace. that would be very photogenic! how do you fancy the A1? I've been thinking about getting one.
go for it! really like mine, hard to think of anything else that I would prefer. lots more vids on the A1 coming up. and get that electro next to the fire!
At 26.44 you really brought this Nord to life... synth life of the early eighties....Tack Woody... I fell in love with this machine...thumbs up
still one of the greatest keyboards!
Thanks for another great review Woody! I enjoyed it a lot. Already looking forward to see the synth section video. Cheers!
Very interesting.
Nord has pianos with beautiful songs.

yeah, that's my feeling about the NLA1, so the stage3 will do it even better than the 2 (which has something in between NL2 and NLA1).
Brilliant!!! Love the song choices too!
What is the first 80s track?
I need to get me a Nord.. Electro 5d 61 incoming!
Enjoyed your video. Thanks for posting!

that NS3 looks like a beast, congrats. when will it arrive? d20 ftw :)

Woody Piano Shack okay, thanks; I’ll start there and see how I get on. :-)
Are you going to review a Nord Stage 3? Great channel BTW. Love It!
thx for the request, no plans for that at the moment

What did you think about the keybed? Love your videos Woody!
i really enjoyed it, nice quality and good response & feeling! and thanks. :)
Woody Piano Shack thanks :)
Great vid... what kind of external speaker do you use?
home use only, so just logitech PC speakers.
Thanks man... Just bought a Stage 2 EX. What would you recommend? Ideally a USB poswered speaker. Great channel by the way!

if i ever get opportunity yes, although hard to describe and compare actions on a video...

Oh, one last question! Do you have any budget amp recommendations? Many thanks.
for gigging? not sure, a pair of powered pa speakers would be cool, may not be budget though. you prob want stereo for the leslie and pianos.
What is the song for the first part?
Pierre de Gaye Joe Jackson - Steppin’ Out
what's behind those shiny brass doors on the left?

Woody Piano Shack
ah. I thought it might be a fireplace, but then I was like, nah, too small. and it's actually wood burning?
for sure!
