    One suggestion for the rubber cement compound, I put a liberal amount on the whole strip just before inserting into the tire. This helps bond the folded section to itself and where it contacts the hole of tire. Doesn’t hurt to apply some to the plug as shown in the video, but most of what you apply there is going wear off in a short amount of miles driving on it.

    Before you ream the hole, you want to find the direction of the injury so that your not actually making it worse by forcing the reamer through uninjured tire. Follow the channel of the hole. For example, if the hole is 45° you don't want to force the reamer through at 90° because you'll be compounding wound channels and making it even worse. Coat the plug material with the rubber cement just before inserting it into the tire. It'll act as a lubricant and make insertion much easier while providing for a better plug. By the appearance of the ozone bead cracking, this tire should be replaced anyway.

    5/3/2021: I just followed your method, modified, and so far (drove 30 mph on bumpy road for 2 miles), checking air pressure, and soap-sudsing the plug for tell-tale bubbles, the repair to a leaking tire (losing 2lbs every 30 minutes) appears to hold. This was on the RR tire (2015 Civic LX). I jacked the car up, then rotated the tire until I saw a screw head. Marked the area. Then used emergency brake to hold the tire from moving, and started work. I used a phillips-screwdriver and pliers to remove the screw. The air came out. My difficulties: first, it took a big framing hammer to pound the reamer in, after which the reamer would go in an out OK with pushing and pulling by hand. I used Rubber Cement on both the plug material and on the end of the insertion tool. Then I couldn't get the damn plug in, even with pounding the insertion tool with the hammer, so I sliced another piece of insertion material down the middle and used half-a-thickness in the insertion tool; and THAT finally could be pounded in a couple inches. I just pulled it out like you're supposed to. We'll see if it holds. 5/9/21. The car has now been driven daily for 6 days, plus at least 60 mph, and no leakage from the tire. This is the second time I have successfully used a tire-plug kit to plug leaking tires, while the tire is still on the car.

    One suggestion I would have is to NOT push the projectile(nail,screw etc) farther into the tire,but rather try to pull it out with a pair of needlenose pliers.. it could damage sensitive sensors or disrupt the balance of your wheel while you're on the highway. or even possibly re-puncture the tire somehow in another in another spot..its far fetched but possible

      @Peter Anagnostidis I plug my passenger car tires all the time. If it's in the shoulder it'll last 6 months and air will slowly leak out. Most tire shops won't do it for you, but, if you DIY it it'll get you down the road until you can get the tore replaced. In the center of the tire, the plugs are usually good for the life of the tire, or a few years. YMMV. I don't go mudding, so I can't say. You'll need to ask elsewhere.

    I wasted several strips trying to force them through the tire. You need to inflate the tire to at least 10 psi or close to that so the tire gives you resistance when forcing the tool and strip in. I had an inflator in my garage and just put a peace of paper and my finger against the hole as I was filling up the tire with air. Once it got to about 10 psi, I quickly moved on to plug the tire. Went right in. Great video by the way.

      What I do too. Pull it out. Quickly shove it in and keep air in place. Tank her out and then plug it. Even will use rubber cement after. And then snip off any extra. Idk it's the way I was taught at the dealer years back. Just gotta hope you dont have too big of a hole because you will want to double plug it and know deep inside you shouldn't. Sidewall though, no hope. Wouldn't ever touch someones tire if the leak was even too close to it. Not worth the risk.

      You never want to plug a hole bigger than 1/4 in or closer than an inch to the sidewall. This video is borderline in how close that hole is to the sidewall. If yours is closer than in this video I wouldn't try to plug it. A patch could be more suitable but for maximum safety get a new tire.

    Great video 👍 I had plugs last 2 or 3 years probally more if didn’t need new tires. I Decided to do myself instead have a shop want 10 dollars or more and give me hard time or not do it bc close to sidewall. I had them close to sidewall with no issue as well.

      The reason being is that it’s close to the sidewall. If it blows out or doesn’t work properly, you can’t blame them.

      @fireman62truck 2 года назад

      @@rjlewis8346 true I see your point but like any repair they do can come back to them to be blamed that’s why you have insurance. One shop has my coolant reservoir tank cap loose and a coolant hose clamp loose it leaked. I also think shops want you to spend more money on new tires instead

      You are wrong about them wanting to sell you a tyre……there is more profit to be made on repairing than replacing as more often than not, the mark-up on a new tyre is very small.
      As regards the “close to sidewall” repair-no reputable experienced tyre technician will do it as it’s close to the “flexing” part of the tyre-in other words, the shoulder that does all the hard work on cornering etc-this can cause a repair unit to fail. Also, if you are not removing the tyre to repair it, how can you tell that there is no run-flat damage to the inside of the wall of the tyre? This can occur when the tyre has been run in an under-inflated condition. The people on here who claim they’ve been doing this for years without incident, have been lucky.

    Good video. Although, instructions on the Slime tire patch kit, said to rapidly remove the set tool to replace it from the tire and to separate it from the plug. You stated to slowly remove the tool. You also didn’t mention, after you plug the hole and fill it up to the proper psi, you use a bottle with water and soap and spray over the hole, if there is no bubbles the hole is repaired, if you see bubbles you need to reset the plug.

      q s1 yeah I don’t know man. I haven’t had a puncture in about 3 years. I bought 4 brand new tyres yesterday and today I punctured 2 tyres... with only one spare tyre I had to call an Uber just to take them to be repaired. The driver didn’t want to take me as the wheels were covered in sut... I had to call a mobile tyre repair guy. £80 for 2 tyres to be repaired.
      The repair guy had me by the balls as I was working and this was preventing me from getting paid. All because someone dropped a bunch of screws.

    yes, but how do you find the hole ?

    • @s00p3rman
      @s00p3rman 5 лет назад +2

      I use dishsoap and water. If it's very small, you have to smear soapy water all over it and watch closely for bubbles coming off the surface. Or fill your tub with water and submerge the tire. Then watch for air bubbles coming out. If it's a tiny hole you might have to make it bigger just to get the plug in. Or you might be able to deflate the tire and use a syringe to inject rubber cement into the pinhole.
