I very much enjoy your videos Kees. The beauty of the internet: being able to visit places you've never been/might never go, through someone else's experience! I have watched a ton of your walking videos already, but I wonder why you never seem to have visited a city in the Western hemisphere?
Such wonderful ❤️ skies n serene place.. thanks 😘 for your time and beautiful ❤️ video of Phnom Penh Can't believe this is the same place where the Khmer Rouge fought battles
I find by observation this city is clean. No rubbish, rubble or mounds of dirt on roads and footpaths. No potholes on the asphalt roads, hence no dust clouds. Kerbsides on roads are debris free. No overcrowded roads or footpaths. Buildings are clean and free of mould. Cars, Trucks and Motorcycles are quite new and clean. Aeriall Power Electrical Cables are reasonable with Meter Boxes on Power Poles hence stealing of Electricity would be negligible. In comparison to India, Burma, Thailand and Malaysia it is a cleaner place. For a S.E.Asian city I give it high marks, and would not mind living there for 3 months. *****Fascinating is the Articulated Trailers on the back wheel of Motor Cycles which no other SEAsian nation has.
Problem is to get out of our comfort zone to see other cultures and appreciate what we have in the western world. There are always crimes in big cities and I feel much safer there than in LA!
This is really great. One really gets to experience the real socio-cultural-economic reality Studying the faces the signs the lack of traffic signals the sales etc This is how they work and live! Gratsias!
I've driven such a motorbike in Bermuda; that two-cycle exhaust is choking. (Three big people on some of those small bikes!!!) Would enjoy walking that market area. Colorful everywhere. Surprised you and your camera aren't bumped more........Bumped off. Even with the congestion and noise, these walks have a peaceful quality. And thanks.
Good video but what a loud obnoxious place to work/live it would be. Gotta be stressful. Non stop construction going on during that walk. I'll take Siem Reap any day of the week thanks.
Wait, are you really walking? How did you keep the camera so balanced like that? You really get the sense that you're the one that walking through those streets. My parents are from Cambodia and I was born in America, but I've there a few years ago. I was actually surprised how much the country has modernized.
Cam-bodia and India similar sounds affect over the streets, however if you are tourists in the streets of Bodia you will not get hungry or thirsty, just curious how many accidents occur per day
Few riders with helmet in a major city? Here in the Philippines, the local government is strict on helmet law especially in Metro Manila but in provinces they are not.
From what I read, apparently a lot of it is a status symbol, even some people living in a very poor house have a big vehicle. By far the most Lexus SUVs I've ever seen was in Phnom Penh, I even saw Porsche and other luxury vehicles which is pretty obscene in such a poor country. At the same time you will see dozens of factory workers packed into the back of small trucks.
im comparing this with thailand, i cant see any difference, but to be honest, i feel like thailand is more alive, im planning to travel to cambodia in 3 months, do u have any suggestions?
What is notable of the camera man is what he stated. "A walk thru Phnom Penh". [If you get my drift.] How steady is that shoulder camera. No shake no shudder. And he was not accosted by police or the locals to shut the filming down.
It's looks like they don't have sidewalks. I think sidewalks are small and people things on the sidewalks. That's why people are walking on the streets.
Wow! Phnom Penh looks like a fantastic city. I have never been there but it looks so clean, organised, modern and full of French architecture. The people look very friendly and traffic is flowing smoothly. It really is impressive... much, much better than Jakarta or any city in Indonesia. It looks relaxing and inviting. :-)
R u kidding? Jakarta has improved a lot now. Cleaner. And if you say something about other cities beside Jakarta..I've been to many cities across Indonesia.. from Sumatra, Bali, Sumba, Flores, Kalimanta..the cities are even much nicer than Jakarta. No traffic, clean, laid back, simple, fresh air...
Except that Jakarta is not developed. It is a third world city that is overcrowded, suffers from horrific traffic congestion, and being one of the cities in the world with the worst air pollution along with unfriendly overstressed people, endemic corruption, is the typhoid capital of southeast Asia (according to the WHO), poverty and lack of infrastructure. Phnom Penh is cleaner and definitely has character and the people there don't behave like typical big city people.. they look friendly. Besides, Ho Chi Minh City is also a decent city and will also go further than Jakarta in the future. Jakarta will go nowhere and even the government admits that it should move the capital away from Jakarta just like Myanmar's government did when it moved away from Yangon because the problems are insurmountable. Ahok is a good man but he can only do so much before the corruptors stop him. Uprooting corruption in Indonesia is like throwing ice cubes into hell, hoping it will freeze over.
I can't tell if you're serious. Having visited there, on my visit it definitely was not clean, organized, modern, or relaxing in general, and the traffic is pretty terrible. It was the most difficult place I've visited in SE Asia, the smell and garbage was the worst I've seen, it's near impossible to walk due to vehciles parked on the footpaths, and other issues. Of course, it will likely depend on exactly where you go, and how you travel etc. Having visited Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore previously, it was a bit shocking. If I remember correctly, it's the poorest nation in SE Asia, so problems are to be expected at the present time. As Cambodia is rapidly growing it's economy, hopefully it will improve a lot anyway. When I talked to a local in Siem Reap I mentioned I'd booked 5 days in Phnom Penh, and he told me that was too long, lol.
It's really surprising they don't have more traffic injuries. They go zipping around, people coming in and out constantly. One would think there would be many crashes.
they have a different way than westerners and when you get use to it, it kind of makes sense. i did find that even though they drive like this, they are are a lot more patient and seem less stressed than we do in western countries. they do crash of course, but not as often as you would expect. i couldn't drive there though.
The traffic rule of thumb, the bigger one goes first, the smaller one goes next, then the pedestrian goes last. It's a win / win situation. It's only in Cambodia!
They need to come up with some sort of traffic laws and regulations. How the heck are people allowed to drive all over the road and in any direction. Shit is cray
I know why I tolerated this noise for 10 years, it's called love for a dog, and a lady....otherwise I would've lived anywhere else...u have been warned!!!

really!! The atmosphere is exactly the same in my country!
Ya, seperti di pinggiran kota Jakarta. Tapi ini lebih sepi.
Mirip di kebanyakan kota di Indonesia, cuma pnom Penh lebih bersih
Problem is to get out of our comfort zone to see other cultures and appreciate what we have in the western world. There are always crimes in big cities and I feel much safer there than in LA!
I love this clip. So real and make me comfortable.

These streets are beyond chaotic. The traffic fatality rates in Phnom Phen streets has to be horrendous.
Cam-bodia and India similar sounds affect over the streets, however if you are tourists in the streets of Bodia you will not get hungry or thirsty, just curious how many accidents occur per day
Really nice with your video, I can enjoy visit another cities. Welcome to Cambodia next time. I can be your guide if need.
Few riders with helmet in a major city? Here in the Philippines, the local government is strict on helmet law especially in Metro Manila but in provinces they are not.
Why do they have to drive such a big suv? I hope the government double the taxes on those vehicles and triple it further base on the weight.
WE FOUND THE DEMOCRAT!!!

Thanks.Hugs from Italy.

Travel to Flores...trust me you don't want to come back to the big cities...
+Andre Widjaja very far you compare Jakarta with Phnom penh, the same as you compare Tokyo with Ho Chi Minh
Except that Jakarta is not developed. The traffic rule of thumb, the bigger one goes first, the smaller one goes next, then the pedestrian goes last. It's a win / win situation. It's only in Cambodia!
A camera man gets yelled at by a little girl. Always gave danger a thought. Not everybody likes been film.
VISIT ONCE IN A LIFETIME IS A MUST
