Anita Baker and Phyllis Hyman were the women who made me fall in love with R & B. Their voices were so rich and filled with angst, pain, and inspiration. I could identify. As a young gay white kid from the suburbs, I would listen to them on my hour long bus ride downtown to my college classes. It was the best part of my day. Music helps you escape.

I went to her farewell concert and I am so glad that I did. She still sounds amazing. The crowd was singing so loud she stopped like "Can I sing now?" Ctfu! We gotta support our greats and give them their flowers now.
She sang "My joy" near the end in one breath. That was impressive.

Great reaction Satori! Anita is the TOP of the mountain for me! There are so many great singers out there and I have a lot of faves but Anita has always been my favorite female singer. She puts you in a trance and her voice is stunning. I just love her SO much. You really can’t go wrong with any of her songs. She has so many hits! “Been So Long” and “Giving You The Best That I’ve Got” are a couple of my favorites. “Good Love” & Whatever It Takes” are amazing too. Trying to pick a favorite Anita song is like trying to pick a favorite child. It’s too difficult 😥.

Saw in concert in London after her first album, The Songstress, came out. She sung this song and you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. It was electric.
People (by that I mean me!) had tears in their eyes, it was so emotional.
