‘We’re kidding ourselves’: Australian Navy capability in a ‘pathetic state’

  • The Australian's Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan has slammed the Albanese government for declining a request from the US for support in the Red Sea.
The government will likely not be sending a warship to assist the United States in an operation against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.
“This is quite an important moment in Australian history,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News Australia.
“If our navy has reached such a pathetic state of incapability that it cannot deal with attacks by Houthi rebels using cheap drones, then we’re just kidding ourselves about having any impact on China or the Indo Pacific whatsoever.
“This is a shocking moment, both in what it says about the Albanese government’s complete lack of seriousness in this matter, the shocking state of our navy and the inability of the government to produce any military capability at all.”

Soon we'll have the USA poking China for its own interests and using it's allies, most likely not to their benefit. Just look at how happy the USA was that Nordstream 2 was blown up. Germany is stuffed, manufacturing is already leaving the country. 400,00 Ukr killed, country now a failed state, still and will be for a long time subservient to the USA and west. They paid a huge price and their freedom is lost to the west, no longer a democracy. But USA and western bus contracts in Ukr already being drawn up. Ukr loses, but USA still wins. Military industrial complex and other business interests get billions from USA taxpayers. Uke would have been much better off simply being neutral, trading with both west and Russia, and not oppressing/bombing the Russian ethnic areas ... allow autonomy then over time win the ppl in those areas back. But the USA and UK said no, and no to a peace treaty March last year. The USA and UK are famous for breaking promises and agreements. So, as allies, we need to tread very carefully. USA has failed in most conflicts, they come from a dominant power position w no room for diplomacy, nor seeing from the other side. They pretend great virtue... about freedom, democracy, human rights, sovereignty, yet have interfered in many elections, coups, armed terrorist groups, sanctioned to the point of starvation, lied to manyfacture consent for war, and couldn't even get out of Afghanistan properly. I'm not trying to be negative but realistically Australia isnt big enough economically, demographically, or industrially to be a big player on it's own. But it doesnt have to be. Its sailors and weapons are well respected for their professionalism and skill. They are valued and respected minor players in any coalition. Just keep bringing your A game like the ADF has always done, big or small, and you're doing your part with nothing to regret or be ashamed of.

Australia is hamstrung by politicians and APS making acquisition decisions ignoring military advice…if you’re buying cheap you’re paying twice, because it’s going to cost more to fix up the mess.
Retention is an issue, demographics are at play, and it’s NOT the Albanese government’s fault, that’s just a RWNJ lie.
Pay our people properly, peacetime six month deployments are toxic to families, professionalism matters but the steam needs a sensible release, not idealistic temperance and toxic attitudes to community standards…our ADF is a reflection of our society and its values, but all too often we’re held to higher standards, and this is detrimental to retention.
As for weaponry… you get what you pay for mate… if you want a first class standard then you’ll have to fork out for the best kit, not ‘Fitted for/ Not with’

However, I do believe it has recently been announced by PM Rishi Sunak, fondly known as WishyWashy, that the UK will ramp up investment in defence 'to meet the challenges of an increasingly volatile and complex world' - so they are throwing a bit a of dosh at it. In hopes presumably that they will be able to defend themselves against a civil or external fracas.
