The fact the developers took the extra time to include the eyes, skull, and organs of a fictional corpse despite how none of them are likely to be seen by an average player is a level of detail that disturbs me on several levels.
The reason why that static is there at all times during the trick or treat game is because it prevents you from seeing what animatronics are coming towards the door, say if you lean into the window in VR the static comes up.

Boundary breaking gives us a sense of control and safety, we know that if things get too intense we can just warp outside of the level boundaries and remove ourselves from the danger. The problem with Glitchtrap is, he can do that too as that was the entire premise behind his character; he can break the boundaries of the VR games to hunt the players down therefore robbing us of that sense of control and safety that ability used to give us.

I bet that the cone is the trigger used to determine when the player is looking and not looking at the window to initiate those events.
This is how it would be calculated, but typically it's all done with a few lines of code in the game's programming, as that take much less memory than a fully-modelled cone, visible or not.
I actually did a boundary break of my own and found something else. Inside the "game over" room, if you look beneath the floor, there's a message saying "YOU ARE DEAD." According to the game's ESRB description, that message appears onscreen after a jump scare. However, I've never seen it during regular gameplay.

Those dev textures are default ones that come with unreal engine. That dot in the skybox that's far away is an environmental sun, used for simulating light, with the sun being where the light is coming from. Also, this is Unreal Engine 4. The mountains could have easily been made by the developer with the landscape tool. Free Camera isn't very hard to accomplish, other than changing the starting pawn, same goes with the full bright.
Also at 3:29, the mansion assets are from the marketplace, its the Classic Mansion asset pack, which I thought was pretty cool cause I use that asset pack too :P

The white hemisphere outside of the default skysphere (which they only bother changing the colour - I've seen that cloud texture for 3 years now) is from a thing that we call *Atmospheric Fog* . This actor (actors in UE4 means something we can put in the level) renders that white hemisphere, and also that white circle, which we called it as *Sun Disk* . Sun Disk is more like a material effect that ignores camera position, therefore it looks like it's been "placed infinitely far away, opposite the light's direction." The sun disk is not a geometry, therefore you won't get close to it no matter how far you want to pan the freecam towards it. I suspect the developer here didn't put any directional light that serves as the sun light, therefore, the sun disk defaults to zero degree angle, right on the horizon. "But the circle isn't in the middle of the hemisphere!" It is. It's just that the altitude and the ground offset is shifted all the way downward. In UE4.25, newer version of the engine that came out this year, Atmospheric Fog has been replaced with Sky Atmosphere, which is way easier to use while providing more realistic sky lighting.
@Traffixcone I used both, but mostly BP. I only use C++ when I deem BP is too inefficient for repeating works or when I need to go low-level with stuff. Otherwise, C++ for high-level scripting is prone to failure and cause more time loss in the long run than BP. Like, for example, inserting RPG character variable (HP, MP, SP, etc.) across all character type actors, or adjusting all button widgets to have another tooltip that can integrate to my UI system. That's when C++ came to the rescue.

Those dev textures are default ones that come with unreal engine.
That dot in the skybox that's far away is an environmental sun, used for simulating light, with the sun being where the light is coming from.
Also, this is Unreal Engine 4. The mountains could have easily been made by the developer with the landscape tool. Free Camera isn't very hard to accomplish, other than changing the starting pawn, same goes with the full bright.

@@ingridw9675 True, but most of the assets are still pre-rended 2D images that are simply swapped out when the cameras in that area are deactivated. Boundary breaking the originals would just reveal series of flat or slightly curved images that change positions in a 3D space.

Since the game is developed with Unreal Engine 4, and I'm a UE4 game dev too, so I'll give some explanation to that.
The white hemisphere outside of the default skysphere (which they only bother changing the colour - I've seen that cloud texture for 3 years now) is from a thing that we call *Atmospheric Fog* . This actor (actors in UE4 means something we can put in the level) renders that white hemisphere, and also that white circle, which we called it as *Sun Disk* . Sun Disk is more like a material effect that ignores camera position, therefore it looks like it's been "placed infinitely far away, opposite the light's direction." The sun disk is not a geometry, therefore you won't get close to it no matter how far you want to pan the freecam towards it.
I suspect the developer here didn't put any directional light that serves as the sun light, therefore, the sun disk defaults to zero degree angle, right on the horizon. "But the circle isn't in the middle of the hemisphere!" It is. It's just that the altitude and the ground offset is shifted all the way downward.
In UE4.25, newer version of the engine that came out this year, Atmospheric Fog has been replaced with Sky Atmosphere, which is way easier to use while providing more realistic sky lighting.
@Traffixcone I used both, but mostly BP. I only use C++ when I deem BP is too inefficient for repeating works or when I need to go low-level with stuff. Otherwise, C++ for high-level scripting is prone to failure and cause more time loss in the long run than BP.
Like, for example, inserting RPG character variable (HP, MP, SP, etc.) across all character type actors, or adjusting all button widgets to have another tooltip that can integrate to my UI system. That's when C++ came to the rescue.

6:55 the reason the white box is there is 1 to track the head movement but the 2nd reason is to keep the hats (the mask or head) together because obviously they would want to put the accessories in the correct spot and keep it there. you mostly have to do it in the modeling stage
