As the laptop is charged with the same USB C port which can do display out (and presumably handle higher resolutions than the HDMI) I'm struggling to see how I can get a the higher resolution display, without disconnecting the power? Hi, I'm looking for a laptop for my sister, who's a lawyer. She needs a small, light, portable, efficient, 14inch laptop for productivity (mostly work in Office apps) and entertainment. In my country, I found this Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 with ryzen 5 7530u in 2 variants. One is with the 1200p OLED display and the other one's with a classic 1200p IPS display. I also found Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 with Ryzen 5 6600HS with a 2.2k IPS display for a very similar price. I'd like to ask you what your recommendation would be, coz I can't imagine what those display differencies actually mean and look like in real life. I'd really appreciate any help :)
For this type of work, the Slim 5 with 7530U or Ryzen 7 7730U would be perfect with the OLED display. In the UK, the 7730U/OLED* is £592 Black Friday deal which is a bargain price. *Also you can only get it in OLED now only in the UK. OLED panels eat into a bit of battery life compared to IPS displays, so that's something to consider unless you will have the laptop at a desk all the time. The IdeaPad Pro 5 has more performance than the Slim 5, but the battery life won't be as good as the U-series of processors. The other 14 inch laptops to look at is the Yoga Pro 7 AMD and the Yoga Slim 7 AMD, both great laptops with newer processors, the AMD 7840U/7840S. If you watch my last two video reviews, they have this processor. (Great performance/battery life)
Both good laptops. Slim 5 is better value. Intel H-series processors are designed for performance so will generate heat = fan noise. If you want less performance but quiet look at the U-series processors.
@@Dovecomputers People say that Lenovo has an issue with fan - its always running during charging. Does hp pavillion has this problem or the fun is not? Also, have you used Slim 5 for a long time, were there any problems with overheating?

(Great performance/battery life)
Does this Laptop support, to connect a QHD Monitor with 60hz with HDMI
Hello!
Comparing Ideapad Slim 5-14 to HP Pavillion 14, which would you advise to buy?
which is better quality and less noisy?
Both good laptops. Slim 5 is better value. Intel H-series processors are designed for performance so will generate heat = fan noise. If you want less performance but quiet look at the U-series processors.
@@Dovecomputers People say that Lenovo has an issue with fan - its always running during charging. Does hp pavillion has this problem or the fun is not?
Also, have you used Slim 5 for a long time, were there any problems with overheating?
@yanzet Been using Slim 5i long term 6+ months, not had any fan issues.
Today its available for i7 same model at 600 euro , good deal you think now?
Good deal 👍
Would the better graphics card you suggested improve game performance?
I want to play a game called Yakuza 0
It was released in 2018 but it is also originally a PS3 game but was also released on the PS4
Yes. The RTX 3050 will happily play most modern games. Yukuza would not be an issue.
@@Dovecomputers thanks for the response
How about if I don't get the graphics card do you think it can run it with mid settings or would it be too hard?
Intel iGPU isn't great for gaming. Older games will play in low to mid settings in 1080P.
@@Dovecomputers can I install it in the laptop or I have to use it as an external one?
Unacceptable it doesn't come with Thunderbolt 4
They save that for the Pro version.
Please can you tell me , this laptop good for video editing?
Probably not. If you are editing 1080P videos yes, but not 4K footage.
Will the AMD version of this ideapad slim5 gen8 have a much better battery life or not a huge difference? Im afraid this oled screen will eat up battery
AMD model will be more power efficient as it uses the Ryzen U-series processors compared to the power hungry Intel H-series processors.
Thank you so much for a great video, can I ask you would you recommend this laptop for an engineering students who will probably run a lot of heavy softwares in the next 4 years?
What type of software will you be running? Some are processor intensive, so decent i7/i9 CPU, plenty of memory (32GB) and some require a dedicated GPU for additional processing.
That laptop doesn't have slot SSD again, right? If we want to upgrade to higher storage, we must change it?
Yes, only one M.2 slot.
can you do a review on the 16inch version
Would love to, but don't have any spare time! 👍
hello! Help me! im looking for laptop which is available in india, usage : Creator + Moderate Gammer + Programmer, please suggest me a laptop, im very confused over different models here. pl suggest in latest tech and feature under 90,000 rupees, Please reply as soon as you view this comment. pl.!
IdealPad though?
Cuanto les dura su bateria de una ideapad slim 5i core 7, la mia dura 4 horas en sus especificaciones detalla 8 horas😢
I am wandering if it would be able to handle programming, as I am a university student studying IT
Totally. Go for the 2.2K display for better resolution and battery life. 👍
Sorry one question, with OLED monitor on a laptop there is still risk of pixel burn in? Someone can tell his experience? Thank you.
hey do you know more about it ?
Can You suggest me a good 14 inch laptop with a good battery life and performance. Please
Look at the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor laptops. e.g. Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 4 AMD. Or the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 AMD (7840HS) and its thinner sibling, the Yoga Slim 7 AMD (7840S). Both amazing laptops. Reviewing both as we speak.
How is Yoga slim 7 AMD (7840S)? Can i go for it as it falls under my budget..@@Dovecomputers
is the IdeaPad Slim 5i 13th Gen (14, Intel) suitable for smoothly running Adobe Photoshop and Premier Pro 2020 ... and occasional data analytics assignments?
IMO, 16GB is not enough to run Adobe PS/PP. 32GB memory would be safer. You need to consider the IdeaPad Pro 5i, Yoga 7 Pro Gen 8 or the Yoga Slim 7.
@@Dovecomputers yes I was thinking of ideapad slim 5i with i5 13th gen chipset
The Slim 5i maxes out at 16GB memory (soldered on), hence the other recommendations.
What is the "Legion" cube on your desktop please?
eGPU enclosure. Connect an external graphics card via Thunderbolt 3 to a laptop.
Can you review this version but with GPU rtx3050 6GB?
Already looking at buying the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i Gen 8 - i7-13700H / RTX 3050 GPU OR the IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 8 with AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS / 780M iGPU.
Hi. I cant decide between Acer Swift go and this one. Please help?
Tough choice! The IdeaPad Slim 5 Gen 9 (14" AMD) has just come out too! AMD Ryzen 5 8645HS, 16GB, 512GB, OLED, £493 + VAT.
I can add another ssd/hdd to have totaly 2 ssd/hdd for more storage?
i dont think so
Hi will you be soing a review on the amd edition?
Not looking at the AMD version to review....but looking at the Yoga Slim 6 14 AMD as a maybe...if the price is right. 😉
@@DovecomputersAh ok, great review👍
Hi! I want to buy this lap but with intel core i5, can you tell me the difference with the i7?😢
Not much between them in some benchmark scores. What will you be using it for? If general usage, the i5 version will be more than suitable. Stick to 16GB memory for either option. 👍
Hello! Have you bought the i5 version? If yes, please let us know how long you get the screen time after full charge.
hi if I buy this model, use for study soflware enginnering. Is this enough?
IMO, should be enough but you could go for the IdeaPad Pro models that have more processing power. (But almost double the price of the slim) 👍
Brother Will this laptop runs autocad, stad pro, revitand other software works heavy performance
No, it's not designed for this type of work. Plus limited by 16GB soldered on memory.
@@Dovecomputers could you suggest a model to buy bro
@vishalbright864 You are looking at a mobile workstation (Or gaming laptop) for this type of work. Lenovo ThinkPad P series, HP ZBook Power/Fury, Dell Precision series.
Is it normal for the laptop screen to be bent so your own reflection on it appears twisted and deformed, just as a snapchat filter?
Is display same on 14 and 16 inch?
No, they don't seem to have the OLED option on the 16 inch.
I love your video! Getting this soon! Thank you!
this is 1100 for me on amazon uk
What is the diffrence between the ideapad slim 5i and ideapad slim 5? Btw really nice video.
Thanks. Intel (5i) and AMD (5) 👍
Hi. For use with photoshop, lightroom and some game (god of war,...), between these two laptop, which is the best for performance:
1) LENOVO Ideapad Pro 5i Intel i5 13500h, lppdr 16gb 5200hz, rtx 3050 6gb
or
2) LENOVO Ideapad Pro 5 AMD Ryzen 5 7640hs, lppdrx 16gb 6400hz, rtx 3050 6gb
?
Option 2 👍
Which would you suggest between yoga slim 6i i5 1340p vs ideapad slim 5i?
On paper, i7-13620H has better performance. i5-1340p has better battery life. Slim 6i has two Thunderbolt 4 ports if that matters. Otherwise not much between them.
@@Dovecomputers In india yoga slim 6i has i5 1340p processor and ideapad slim 5i has 13420h processor that's why I asked which to choose between them.. As build quality is concern for me.
Does the backlight keyboard also supports auto brightness?
Yes it does. 👍
@@Dovecomputers should i chose this model or wait for yoga slim 6i i5 13th gen P series
Not much between the two models. Intel H-series has more power but less battery life than the P-series CPU's. 2 x Thunderbolt 4 ports in the Slim 6i if you require them.
@@Dovecomputers whats the difference between thunderbolt ports in yoga series and type c ports in ideapad one?
Also, what's the benefit for the intel evo series certification. Is it worth it for the extra bucks?
Hopefully these would be the last queries.
Sorry for asking too many things 😅
@@Dovecomputers Do you think getting the ryzen 5 or 7 instead might be better for battery life. And if it is, which one would you recommend getting out of the two. By the way what an amazing video review. Thank you so much!

Can I play mywhoosh with this laptop??
Shouldn't be an issue.
Fantastic review. Great job.
Does it have a touchscreen?
No there isn't a touchscreen option.
