    Great reaction! The "rare" instrument is a hurdy gurdy, the band is awesome and they're from Switzerland. I think you can also like their song King. Stay metal!

    It’s pronounced el-VAY-tee. The instrument you were asking about is the hurdy gurdy. To hear more of the other side of the band, check out their song “Epona” or “Lvgvs”. They are a Swiss folk metal band. Most of their songs involve Gallic and Celtic mythology and history, and many are even sung in ancient Gaulish.

      Callic is celtic ;) SOrry quibling. They focus on the Gaulish ("Gallic") Myth, and sing in reconstructed Neo Gaulish quote often

    The band is actually Swiss, but the music is definitely Celtic influenced. It's funny, I was a fan of the band, but never gave a thought to the name. Then I came across the name, "Eluveitie", in a book while reading up on Celtic history. Turns out it's the name the ancient Tuscans gave to the group of Celts that settled in what is Switzerland today. The weird instrument the girl is playing is a Hurdy Gurdy. It was a popular instrument in Europe during the Renaissance. Most people watch this and say "Oh look! Flutes!" Those are Irish Tin Whistles. Given the long list of Metal sub-genres, this is popularly known as "Folk Metal".

    European metal is far more creative than the stuff being produced in the US these days but they don't get the marketing here for some reason. This was folk metal and I love it like you guys did.

    Thanks so much for getting to my request guys! Much appreciated! If you’re wondering how the band is pronounced, it’s El-vay-tee. The strange instrument you saw is called a Hurdy-Gurdy. I’m gonna be spoiled a request that you check out a power metal band from my home Country of Canada: Unleash The Archers - Awakening.

    Eluveitie is pronounced el-vay-tay. They are a pagan metal band from Switzerland. Zurich, I believe. I had the chance of seeing and meeting them in Tampa last September. They are phenomenal to see live.

    Gallic revival folk metal-- the name of the band is the Celtic name of the tribes the Romans called the Helvetians. They often sing in old Gaulish and most of the songs are about Gaulish myths or resisting Caesar's conquest of Gaul, or what we modernly call Switzerland.

    Fun fact: the only core member of the band is the Male Singer/Screamer. He goes by Chrigel. The band formed in 2002 and in total there have been 27 different members. When he started the band he made it clear that he doesn't want the members to feel like they're obligated to only stick with him and if they want to leave for any reason at any time they can. Essentially he writes everything and then just leaves to door open for anyone who wants to join in.

    The Hurdy Gurdy wasn't processed weird, it was played skillfully.
    Usually you turn the crank consistently, here she is vibrating back and forth, like a violins vibrato.

    eluveitie is my favorite band, watch the king video, in fact their songs don't have guitar solos, more than violin and flute. Pure fucking folk metal 🎻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎻

    You Should react to Wintersun- Sons of Winter and Stars Live at Sonic Pump Studios ruclips.net/video/Tl5T-glTdXw/видео.html You won't be disappointed. It's long but well worth it. The vocal style is different than what you've reacted to so far, somewhere between Tati and Floor. Closer to Black Metal vocals for part of the song. Yari switches between Black and clean vocals. Their drummer is now the drummer for Nightwish.

    Just to fill you in:
    Europe consists of something like 43 different countries the whole region roughly the size of the US all with their own unique languages and cultures so anything folksy sounding isn´t automatically Celtic. Celtic is Britain, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
    Europe spans something like 16 different cultural regions all with their own folk music and cultural traditions developed over something like 800 years of recorded music history.
    Add to this 400 years of classical composers and you´ve got one hell of a mixing pot to be mixed up with metal.
    This was Folk Metal from Switzerland. Styles in this part of the metal spectrum would for starters encompass Power Metal, Folk Metal, Viking Metal, Symphonic Metal and Operatic Metal.
    You of course also have Eastern-European, Russian and Ukrainian Metal and Folk Metal, Balkan Metal in odd time signatures based on their Folk roots and so on....
    All clearly distinguishable if you know the codes,
    You guys have only just been introduced.
    Want something really different?
    Try Eivor Pálsdottir- Trodlabundin - studio or live- both are awesome ( Viking Folk ), Amon Amarth - Guardians Of Asgard - Live at Summer Breeze ( The kings of Viking Metal ) or Middle Eastern and North African RnB and Folk Shams Bandar Al-Aslami and Tinariwen.
    Enjoy the ride. :)

      "Celtic is Britain, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. "
      Well, that statement is very incomplete and therefore, mostly wrong. It´s like saying that a car has only 4 wheels and nothing more. The celts included many tribes that extended from Scotland to the Iberean Peninsula, and from Ireland to the eastern Europe.
      "Amon Amarth - Guardians Of Asgard - Live at Summer Breeze ( The kings of Viking Metal )"
      The only problem with that is they never played Viking Metal in their lives.

      The Celtic homeland is right smack in the middle of the European mainland. The ancestry may be purest today in the British Isles, Brittany and northern Iberia, but 1500-3000 years ago Switzerland was all Celt.

    • @kestrelcraig2593
      @kestrelcraig2593 4 года назад

      Yeah, no. The Celts originated in Hallstatt (Central Europe) and spread across much of Europe. The British Isles were pretty much their last stand against Roman conquest. They managed to basically survive there thanks to their remoteness.

    • @aenorist2431
      @aenorist2431 4 года назад

      Friendo, celtic also spans down to tribes in brittany, iberia and back up to the black sea.
      Just sayin, its never clear cut or simple in europe, pretty much your own words.
