- The connection between seeking truth and increased understanding of others was one of the messages shared Sunday night by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at a worldwide Church Educational System (CES) broadcast.
"As you accept the responsibility to seek after truth with an open mind and a humble heart, you will become more tolerant of others, more open to listen, more prepared to understand, more inclined to build up instead of tearing down, and you will be more willing to go where God wants you to go," President Uchtdorf said.
President Uchtdorf also relayed the fundamental Latter-day Saint beliefs (found in the Articles of Faith) in seeking after anything that is "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy" whatever the source may be, and that God "will yet reveal many great and important things" to His children.
Additionally, President Uchtdorf said that Latter-day Saints are "not asked to blindly accept everything they hear." Rather, members are "encouraged to think and discover truth" for themselves and "to ponder, to search, to evaluate and thereby to come to a personal knowledge of the truth." #followersofchrist, #NachfolgerChristi , #churchofjesuschrist

Humanity is fortunate to have spiritual giants that speak truth and inspire goodness love and righteousness, truly the foundation of true happiness.
Bonnie Slade if we are fortunate, why these spiritual giants discourage us to Google about our church, to doubt our doubts and not to be a free thinker? If we have the truth brother, it cannot be harmed no matter what. Truth means, all informations should be open to all.

I was baptized Mormon many years ago and have been inactive for a long time. As a pilot myself, I'm drawn to Elder U's ability to weave aviation into his talks. He is a powerful speaker and his message always captivates me.

I found truth by devoted prayer. Before My family and I were baptized, I prayed and ask a whole night, tears in my eyes, for His true church in our lives. The response was immediate. The next day someone came to me and invited my family and me to His true church. I could not believe it, and would have not believed it, had I not prayed in faith for this truth I was looking for. It has been 21 years, I am immovable. I know this is the truth. And no one, nor nothing, can make me doubt of what my family I, positively know. We have been through a lot of trials inside the church. But nothing matters. We know what we know. In the name of Jesuschrist. Amen.

I need not to make any investigations Buck Snort. Whoever Joseph Smith was, he WAS, I didn't live when he did, niether did you. I know all I have to know about him, that he was the means to restore the true Gospel of God. I prayed, I asked, received the answer I needed (from God himself), I have been active since then, I am as happy as I ever was. I am thankful for Joseph Smith, his qualities and defects. He was as human as your and I are. Vulnerable as you and I to maker mistakes, to be tempted. Who am I to judge someone whom the Lord trusted as much as to restore His true Gospel. It could have been you, and you wouldn't have to be perfect. Nobody is in the flesh. NOBODY IS. I love the Gospel. I trust Heavenly Father and His decisions. I sustain my leaders, they are not perfect either. But I choose to believe until I know for a surety of the beautiful truths and mercies of my loveable Father.

After 23 years 'less active', the truth was restored in my life. I feel my Savior's love. Each of the christian churches I attended had part of the truth but all were wrong.
How do you know they were wrong? There's a mountain of evidence against the LDS Church but you just chose to obviate it to return to something that was familiar for the sake of being comfortable and feeling like you belong? If you stand on the shoulders of fools, you are the tallest one.

@@r.dreiling1064 I am a convert to the LDS church. It was neither familiar or comfortable for me to join but I knew the missionaries had told me the truth. Now after many years as a member I can still say the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS is true.
i believe that our church THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY'S SAINT leads the way to know the teaching's of JESUS CHRIST..and JESUS CHRIST is my way the truth and the light..

Food for thought in this talk for me. Earnestly discover truth sounds like a good goal and while doing a university diploma I can see how many people have different opinions of truth. Instead of spreading the seeds of doubt I will endeavour to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Joy is a wonderful outlook to have in life no matter the sorrows or worries. If you ask of God the truth will be given unto you. Yes. It will and it is given unto you.
Magrrem Caihar the problem is, all members of all religions feel the way you do. They pray the you do, they read sciptures the way you do and ponder the way do.
...and that's a good thing. There is relative truth and there is absolute truth. It takes faith on the part of the believer to discern it no matter what religion is practiced.

Magrrem Caihar how do you distinguish absolute truth from relative truth? Feeling good after you pray is subjective. That is why there are so many religions because each member of any religion, considers his faith to be an absolute truth.
Let me give you an example;
My neighbor is Roman Catholic. She uses a Rosary (prayer beads) to ask God what is right.
I do not use a Rosary because I do not believe in the Nicene creed which is one of the prayers said. But there are times I have asked her to say the Rosary for me when I have needed help in my life.
I ask because her faith is so strong I know God will answer her prayers on my behalf. In turn, she has asked me to pray for her in our Temple.
There are good people in all religions and God answers prayers according to what each church teaches.
It's OK to believe that your church teaches absolute truth because God grants us good things according to our faith.
Magrrem Caihar I agree many religious people are good people. But my point here, is that you can't say you know your church is the only true church because of what you feel after you pray. Because all of the members of all religions they also feel good after they pray about their religion. They also feel absolute truth about their religion. Now that's the problem. Im a returned missionary way back 2003. I also read, pray and ponder about my church.

Excellent talk. May I suggest from the book of mormon the proper way to discern between truth and error. This discovery of the Book of mormon has always blessed my life not to become deceived. The proper way to discover truth is found in Moroni 7:10-19. Read and study these verses carefully. It mentions 3ctimes that we can have a PERFECT KNOWLEDGE. not many times in the scriptures does it say we can achieve perfection. But according to these verses, yes, we can have perfect knowledge of the Book of mormon of the prophet Joseph Smith. I love the Book of mormon.
If you ever question if something is true or false in your life, use Moroni 7: 10-19, and you will not become deceived.

To know truth, it's gotta be objective. You can not confirm truth by just relying only on feelings.
I grew up in the church and became inactive in my mid teens. Despite that i have always had some belief in the church and have went to church sporadically in the past several years. I became interested in the Truth (with a capital T) in regards to the truth movement and things i have researched and discovered since then. I have always believed in God and Jesus but have not been able to decide if the church is actually the truth or not. There is so much negativity and bias out there and i was looking for some positive information on the church here on RUclips (typing in the LDS church is true etc) only to get bombarded with all kinds of anti LDS videos, ex members and a host of the watered down 'Christian' channels who continually bash the church. I am not going to give up but it is a serious and overwhelming struggle. Good talk btw

Those word just spread a few minutes ago can see how our head also transfer to our children's head too because moses didn't see his promise land but Joshua complete it to the promise land, from head to toe to see why Noah and his family enter a new land on Earth after the storm. Book of Mormon also tell it, don't let your children's married yet, let them carry it for you because they are not yet married in body and flesh yet, they can see your promise land with them.

Siosifa Heimuli not knowing and not believing are two different aspects, in order to not believe there is a predisposition to abstain from God, just like in order to believe there is an effort to come to Him. You can believe and not know, but you can also both believe and thus know.
In any case it is safe to believe to check for results and then know for oneself.

Some of us think the truth is like a leafless desolate tree, but a tree without leaves is never the full truth. The abomination tree comes about from head knowledge Hebrews 13 diverse and strange doctrine. The heart must be established by grace and only then will truth follow, because what we know in our heart we will find words for in the mind. Once God said to me: Repent and live to 500 years of age and up to 900 is possible. The truth is eternal and so is not limited by the historical period it is expounded in. We should not believe fully in science, for scientists love the world and so the love of the father is not in them 1John. Scientific truth is the truth of minor miracles, such as getting a cancer patient to live a bit longer, or moving things or people from A to B, so let us worship God not science. Scientists are human and make mistakes such as thinking the earth is heavier than the moon and for this reason attracts the moon. However if we could see the vast auras of the earth and moon then we would know the earth is lighter than the moon and the moon is attracted to a position in the earth of similar intelligence ( weight is inversely proportional to intelligence: which means the heavier something is the less intelligence it has and the lighter something is the more intelligence it has). Note however, that the moon and earth do not exude an aura, or somehow bend space around them, the truth is the earth is God's footstool and heaven is his throne, so the throne comes first and the earth comes later; that is, the aura of earth has a solid centre and not the other way around. We must be very careful then to not worship science blindly. In our blind state our truth can be like a tree without leaves because a tree without leaves is close to the truth but not the actual truth, a tree without leaves is desolate: of the abomination spirit. Hebrews 13 says be not carried away by diverse and strange doctrine (desolate trees) for it is a good thing that the heart be established by grace and not by meats that do not profit. Hebrews 5: but strong meat belongs to those who exercise their senses to discern both Good and Evil -- not merely cops and robbers but true good and true evil. There are four senses corresponding to Body, Heart, Mind and Charity or love; taste the pinnacle of touch, smell the pinnacle of feeling, speaking and hearing, and sight. Hence, Paul is saying exercise ALL the senses to discern truth. Proverbs: Trust in God with all thy heart and lean not apon thy own understanding. The error of assuming the earth is heavier than the moon is an example of abomination thinking: a tree without leaves -- and why, along with scientists, do we make this error? Because we trust too much in what our senses reveal to us, not realizing we are a fallen people with fallen senses. The only reason I know the truth about earth and moon is because God has revealed the truth to me.

The truth is that many people of your faith do not realize you are worshiping a different God and Lord, it might be wise to let them know that you believe that God is a man and also the Lord is a man, these things are not from the bible. John 1:13 "Who were born, not of blood nor the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man but of God". Romans 1:22-23 "Professing to be wise, they became fools. and changed the story to incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man."
There is a real heaven and a real hell. And telling people that no matter what they freely choose to do here on earth whether you choose to believe in the Gospel of the bible and be born again in the spirit and follow jesus and surrender your life to him for forgiveness of sin or follow the ways of the world and choose death in Sin. Jesus gives us the free will to choose Life with him (John 3:16-17) or Death, "Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." On the other hand the LDS teach that if you are Perfect you can become a God which is heresy does not ensure people ticket to Heaven but it does make false converts. Joseph Smith taught you can become a god. That is false. By believing in Jesus (of the Bible) you can be adopted into Gods family. (John 1:12; Gal 3:28 )

Jesus Christ the eternal triune God and Creator of the Universe. See: John 1:1-14, John 10:30; 1 John 5:20; Colossians 1; Hebrews 1,7-8; NOT the LDS jesus who was a created being born from natural relations of god the Father made of flesh who had carnal sexual relations with the Virgin Mary as the LDS Doctrine teaches taught about hell more than heaven in the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark).

Heb. 1:8, "But of the Son He says, "Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom."
Quoted from Psalm 45:6, "Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Thy kingdom."
God of the Bible is:
Isaiah 44:6, "Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides Me."
Rev. 1:17-18, "Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, 18 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades."
Compare the differences between these two citations. Ephesians 2:8-10 vs. 2 nephi 25:23
The Letter to Ephesians is from the New Testament of the Holy Bible and it was written by the Apostle Paul and it is Dated to 60-62 A.D. It was written to the Church in Ephesus which is located in the Asia Minor and was under control of the Roman Empire at the time the letter was written. Where as you can read below the Book of Mormon (the story of View of the Hebrews plagiarized) quote that speaks about the LDS definition of Grace, Joseph Smith warping the Biblical definition of Grace. He taught diffrent gospel, basically LDS church members are taught by the LDS Leadership they MUST Work to Earn Salvation. LDS Church Members have to work for the rest of their lives to Earn Salvation.

But according to the Bible it's a Gift from God that is given you because you have Faith that Jesus is Lord and the Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead on the 3rd day. (Romans 10:9) Jesus was the perfect Sacrifice. (And he is the ONLY priest. Read Hebrews 7-8)
The whole story of the BoM and Smith the story of the Angel Moroni can be summed up by ONE N.T bible verse.

THE SECOND BOOK OF NEPHI
CHAPTER 25
23 For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do
He (Smith) was a cunning and manipulative man who tricked 35 women to marry him some where teenage girls. Smith then later proclaimed that Salvation is ONLY through Plural Marriage D&C 132:1-7. Jesus never said anything about Polygamy or Polyandry* (Smith was also in to Polyandry) Smiths claims about Polygamy was to cover his tracks because he was a man who was both charismatic and manipulative who was Governed by LUST.
Do you read the bible? Specifically the two greatest Commandments that Jesus gave to his disciples? I will go ahead and post them below incase you do not have quick access to the Bible.
Gospel of Matthew

God condemns Anger as the same as committing Murder in your Heart. Or looking in lust at a man or woman is committing adultery in your Heart. And God does indeed see into the Hearts of Men and Women.
Ref. (1 Samuel 16:7) - > But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Because the Gospel of Jesus Christ says that we have broken the Holy Laws of God. And the punishment for sin is death. But God is his mercy sent his son Jesus Christ to take the punishment for our Sin on the Cross. and in one swift Act of God's Love and Mercy He defeated Death and Sin forever.
You are literally exemplifying his point about believing one thing and rejecting any which seem to contradict it without considering that your own current understanding is limited and wrong.

The Book of Mormon is no dogma, you probably never asked God to know if it is true right? But whether in this life or the next, you will come to know that it is a gift to humanity; as another witness that Jesus Christ is the redeemer of mankind. Pls Give yourself the opportunity to know because if you don't, you'll wake up to this reality as soon as you depart from this world! I'm sure deep down in your heart you know that it is true but probably, someone in the Church did something to you, or perhaps you read something that challenges the B of M. Read it again as if you never did, and let the spirit testify to your soul that the book is true!
