Still I'll try to clear your doubt. *Let us Consider we living in 2008 Era, forget about 2019* *Modem* (Modulator/Demodulator) is a box which convert the signal in a form which a RJ-11 Telephone Copper Wire Cable can support for communication between your PC & Internet. But Modem alone can't help the data packet to reach destination & hence Routers comes in picture. Its uses some rule's (protocols) to find the efficient & smallest distance path for data to transfer. Once founded, your data will be sent. Hence Modem+Router both helps in communication. *Now come to 2019* Nowdays, RJ-11 cable is not used, instead we use High Speed OFC (Optical Fibre Cable). But our voice is Analog Signal. Hence today also we need MODEM & Router both, but today, Only Router do all the function including Modem. Hence as Individuals, Modem is not used or seen commonly. Today Router comes with many functions, so why to use Modem alone. Function of Routers (Routing, Wireless Connectivity, Portable Hotspot, Creating own LAN via Subnetting, RJ-11 Connection Port, RJ-45 Ethernet Port, OFC Port, etc) I tried to help, but sorry being Late.
