What happened is that they likely always pre-planned to make two seasons while being open for more. Otherwise it's very unusual to announce a sequel at the end of the show. This does likely mean they will have more time to actually work on the show, hopefully. They could have ended S2 before that final scene but since they didn't that speaks about intent to continue, imo. Just let's hope that: it's not eight episodes but more Darknights gets adapted CH7 and ESPECIALLY CH8 get good enough pacing to breathe.
The thing is that arknights studio is anti that rich enough to afford that much episodes without having issues. Or it's the studio that want to do and they pay the arknights for the Anime but they aren't rich enough. Who knows. But as long as they adapt the Anime for me it's fine. 8 episode is enough even tho it's strage
If there is a season 3 and they go straight into it, the anime only won't have the context for lots of things because they don't know about darknights memoire 😮

Most likely will take some time, as the 1st and 2nd were released within 1 year of each other.
Probably however yostar pictures is working on other projects atm
