- Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) of Phoenix, Maryland, USA (acting as Explosives Design and Performance Subcontractor to Main Demolition Contractor, NorthStar D and R, Inc., of, Houston, Texas and General Contractor Wanzek of Fargo, North Dakota) performs the preparation for and successful explosives felling of a thermally damaged 90-meter-tall hub height, Mitsubishi MWT102/2.4 MW wind turbine located in Lyford, Texas on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
“Thermally damaged” aka caught on fire.
Nice of the turbine to wait for the smoke to clear before falling down. It is appreciated.
I agree… we would of missed the tumble if not for it’s genteel manners
Thank God it is a quite windy site
"thermally damaged" is a fun way of saying it lit the eff up.
So.. Is "Thermally damaged" just $5 words for "It caught fire"?
“Thermally damaged”
“oh interesting they must mean because of extreme heat or cold or something.”
>a charred power unit and one blade completely gone already because of a unit-destroying fire
“Oh…”
"Thermally Damaged", back in my day we used to just say 'burnt' 😛
I love how "thermally damaged" was used to describe it rather than "burnt up"
Fell straight into the prevailing wind! Impressive.
If our ancestors used the fact that machines sometimes break as justification to never build or use machines, humans would never have been able to launch rockets into space to deploy satellites to link handheld computers to a video service so that they could do exactly that thousands of years later.
Forgot to yell "windmill!"
There has to be a certain level of satisfaction in your life when your job is blowing stuff up
Yeah, it blowed up real good (SCTV)
Love that you guys cut out a wedge like you would a tree. Really appropriate calling it "felling"!
RIP little corns.....
🤣
I guess he wasn’t a ‘fan’ of his own success
I'm guessing you guys will be getting much busier now as all the first gen machines are approaching if not over 20 years of age and running out of service hours. The green revolution has taken a distinct brown tinge.
All the other turbines in the background still spinning merrily away as their friend falls to the ground...
Yep, just like you and I drive past an old Chevy or Ford broken down and ready to go to the scrapper....
Commenters be salty that wind turbines exist.
yes, I have no clue why? they like to smoke coal I guess
They suck
Careful, petro advocates will try to claim this is somehow a point against renewables
LMAO
You think you're clever?
Now that was smooth ! 👍👍
Cyrano gets his revenge at last.
Thermally damaged means fire right??? Lol
Ya the oil in the motor must have leaked and somehow by a spark caused a fire
I guess it is the politically correct way of saying it burnt. I was expecting "thermally damaged" to be something was melted, not rendered into charcoal and ash.
@@abpsd73 I assume it's the more "scientific" way of saying it?
It's a good thing there are coal-fired power plants.
Nice the way the subtle watermark emerges from the dust cloud approaching.
you cant fix it with duct tape? ok bring in the dynamite!!
So gracefully falls down.
The most satisfying thing I have seen in a long time...Now that needs to happen to all the rest of them!
"thermally damaged"... Lol
Another beautiful job!
The way it just stood there for a moment after the explosion, reminded me of countless "movie kills" where the bad guy is decapitated, but just doesn't realize it yet.
I like how the foundations are not damaged. You can erect a new turbine in the same spot.
It's amazing how much concrete and steel it takes, they are huge!
I'm pretty sure that's the point. These things are already expensive I doubt they want to build a new foundation.
AntiWindmill guys will like this.
So called renewable enery at work
they must have realized after they built it that it was 1 block off
lmao
all i can say is well done alot of things could have went wronge but didn't
I wonder how far that chunk that got blown off went? That was cool!
Bet the combine operator who found it a couple months later didn't think it was so cool.
Probably about 300 Meters or 984.252 Foot or 328.084 Yard. But it´s just a guess
I was wondering if they did that right for a little bit.
1:10 looks like Jar Jar Binks falling down
That was some heartbreaking Iron Giant stuff🥺
Nice demolition, though😭😭
Was waiting for a POV shot. 🤭
Wondering what all the dust come from at the top?
Ash/residue left from the fire.
soot from the fire.
Carbon
Ashes and burned parts from the "thermal damage".
Probably some of it was thrown up by the det, plus it became a giant chimney so all the dust on the ground can be funneled up and out
Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Ah, there it goes! 😁
ah, I see what you mean about 'Thermally damaged'.
I hope the power company compensated that farmer very well.
Big Pinwheel Faw Down an Go Boom;!!!🤔😃😃😃
"thermally damaged"...
dude, just say that it BURNED
There’s going to be a lot more of those hitting the ground in the future. Especially old technology from 20 years ago. CDI the best in the business.
Yes, 20 years life time. The first generation machines are all coming out of service hours and due to technology changes are scrap. I hope the cost of removal and dumping gets factored into the 'green' equation.
Dude, even the camera vibrated because of the sheer weight of a falling wind turbine
Most satisfying, and delightful. Do the rest.
Nicely done. 👍
Such grace.
Nice video.
I love the hang time until you can see the motion accelerating. Seems like a number of wind turbines fail prematurely for different reasons. Thanks to Loizeaux for sharing these clips !
Its like trees. It looks like there is a lot more of them when they are laying on the ground.
"Thermally damage" took me a while to figure out what that meant 😜
Wow that took a long time before it started moving!
Thermally Fire 🔥!
Now what will power all the electric vehicles they are going to force us to buy?..
The newer, more efficient, far larger replacements.....
Your old Ford and Chevy go to recycling...well before 20 years on average....so do these machines when they become like the Model T or Blue Flame of the wind generators.
They will be replaced by far larger and more efficient ones....using the same real estate...and the power grid already installed ....
Much like 2021 Fords and Chevys use the roads we already have...
Very well done!!
I listen to this instead of thunder sounds at night.
👍🏼 Awesome, as ever! 😎
Awesome debris field
I almost thought it wouldn't fall
Thermally damaged, vertically compromized.
Eventually they will all meet the same fate
Why’d they fell it instead of replacing the nacelle?
Blades were damaged, top of the tower was compromised, likely burning oil and debris fell inside the tower damaging load wires and cables. Replacing the entire structure, would be cheaper than the added man-hours to repair.
@Supersquid
The replacement turbine and tower will be far larger......
Good job!
Keep em coming ! Love the videos!!!
CDI is the best at what they do😁😁😁😁😁😌😌😌😎😎
I feel sorry for the land owner. I hope the turbine owners was out their picking up every last bit and flake of trash left behind
What pray tell is a thermally damaged wind mill?
Burnt....
It caught on 🔥
Caught fire
and now - straight to landfill ..ffs
I feel bad for the farmer. Lost corn and now has scrap metal getting stuck in his machines.
He will be adequately compensated...they usually lease the land for 75 years....
He's making plenty on the lease. Don't feel bad for them.
It fell like a Power Rangers enemy.
Don't like the lawyer speak.
Thermo damage = it went up in flames.
Green power failure again.
if I'm correct I think these were some of the ones that froze during the big winter storm texas had a few months back.. but I could be wrong. I hardly call these things "Green" anyway. seems like they generate more waste than electricity..
The energy used to build it, maintain it, blow it down, and destroy it, was more than the turbine ever could replace. Environmentally sound? Just ask the corn farmer who owns that field...
The same can be said for any generating system
@@rgarito Nuclear pays for itself. Diablo Canyon nuke plant in California, generates over a billion dollars BACK into the state annually. Just imagine what a dozen plants could do for a state, or a country. while generating hundreds of thousands of gigawatts every year, with no emissions or other "carbon footprint".
And...before you say it...Yucca Mountain is still ready to safely receive and store waste material.
@@rgarito they are ugly scars on the sky line😕
Corn farmer cashes his check and says thank you.
The corn farmer is fine with them he's very well compensated for the use of his land
Well done!
Beautiful
No more blowing in the wind 💨 😩
What an environmental mess. Wind turbine blades are non-recyclable. Solar panels are non-recyclable.
Wind turbine blades are recyclable. Just melt them down.
You sound like a victim of corporate propaganda.
While some old wind farms are not so well engineered, modern wind power is the best and the cheapest way to generate electricity.
Wind power is cheaper than oil or coal powered electricity.
Actually, as of recently they figured out how to recycle them
Dropped it in to the wind??
Nice video but that watermark thing is as annoying as f***
If I was doing that, I wouldn't feel safe a 100 miles from there!
Another 10+ Blast!!
Could have made a nice condo up on top.
Guess they ran out of wind there
Was the back side of that cut out before demolition? If so, what lucky guy got to do that?
Beautifully exploded, everyone.
Bruh it got 666,902 views thank you Controlled demolition incorporated
Next, when they get the fires in Australia, we will be told that the forests have been "Thermally Damaged".
Looky there, it got blowed up real good.
Guessing this has to do with the freak cold weather from earlier in the year?
What caused the fire?
.........heat.
**snerkkk**
Exceeding the temperature at which the materials in question retained their "non-burning" status...?
Great wind call…..they were ass backwards
Nice.
It looks like there's not really a viable future for wind power. Unfortunate.
Fun to watch, but what a waste.
Old replaced by new...

Rebuild the Rotor and Propeller was not an Option ? .... "Green Tec" i love That°°
it was probably beyond saving, the entire upper section burned to ash, probably lots of damage to the shaft too, to rebuild it and get it approved would probably cost more than just replacing it with a new one.
Fun but expensive!
1:47 dude…. Just unscrew the bottom!
This is supposed to be a source of 'green energy'. What happens now with demolished structure? I have been told that the majority of it has to go to a special land fill since it is not recyclable or biodegradable.
Only the blades on SOME of them. The rest is mostly steel.
@@rgarito All the machines installed in Australia in the last 20 years have been using non recyclable glass reinforced plastic blades (fibreglass). At that to the e waste from the inverters, the control gear, oils, greases all just smooshed into the field and it's a mess.
So Ah'm guesting they not gong to replace wit a new one.
Where's the 3rd blade
Burnt out or fell off during the fire
