I started a compost pile a couple of years ago. All our vegetative leftovers go in, along with chicken manure from my coop cleanings. I also bought a couple of tubs of earthworms from a local bait shop and dumped them into the pile. I mix it 50/50 with the native top soil when planting our garden or fruit trees.

Hello Mr. Gary. Thank you for sharing all this amazing information! How wonderful to learn from good resources that actually know the chemistry composition. Very helpful!
Is there any tips of how quickly modify the soil? My pH is 6-6.5 for blueberries. It’s late May which won’t allow me to plant them in the ground, but I will need to repot them with home made soil (which I don’t have/know about it yet) but I will need to 1) create my new own acid soil and 2) modify my soil before transplanting again to the ground in Oct-Nov. This is for well stablished 5 year old plants I just purchased 1 week ago. :) any help or advise?

Greeting Mr. Gary Heilig, i watched your youtube video about fertilizing blueberry. its very very informative. thank you so much for sharing. may i please ask a question? i started planting a blueberry(BILOXI a no chill variety )this year in a 20gallon pot with mostly peatmoss, cocopeat, perlite. top dressed with worm casting, hollytone fertilizer, espoma soil acidifier and since my medium is not acidic enough i added a small amout of elemental sulfur then mulch with a pine bark. i've been fertilizing with 21-0-0. and i think i got other macronutrients covered with hollytone organic fertilizer. my question is what's gonna be my source for micronutrients? a lot of product from your country are not available here in the philippines. im thinking if there is any organic fert i can use for micronutrients. thank you

Thank you - much needed information. We are in SW Arizona (zone 9b) with lots of clay soil so lots of incoming organic components need to be added. Holding off on planting our Blueberry bushes (which should come any day now) until Autumn when the organic additives in the soil have had time to be effective enough for the plants. Judi

Just broadcast it in the pot, but I would suggest 1/2 rate. and water in.

I'm on sandy soil. I find my fertilizers to leach out quickly to the surrounding soil. I add sulfur most years to lower the pH. This Spring I added sulphur and got the pH down to 6.0 with better results and more vigorous growth. What is the best time to add sulfur to my 3 blueberry plants?

  • @lifeisgood070

i'm in central Tennessee and pretty sure my soil is 6.9 -7.1 ph. Just planted blueberries. Hopefully they live. Going to be a long process to reduce soil PH. I did not test the exact area of the blueberries. I will next year after all the fertilizer dissolves and disperses. I tested the grass area xD

Can I mix it with the soil at the moment of planting?? Hopefully someone can help me with this. Thank you.
