Ah I just came across one of these laptops with the same hinge breaking off. I end up using that metal piece to my advantage instead of disadvantage, by putting the studs and screw it into the metal piece, heat the metal piece up, and then fill everything with hot glue. Then the hot glue has enough grip for me to tighten the screws all the way, and the studs exert all their force onto that metal piece, which is glued all around onto the plastic casing, and it works beautifully and once you put the back on and put the screw on the back through, you can't even tell that repair is there

Nice save Paul. Great to see this saved from landfill when it is still fully functional and can continue to give good service.

Yes, was glad that the client agreed to the repair costs rather than designating it to the trash, or worse "limbo", where it sits in their cupboard for 5 years until it's truly worthless.

    Hi Paul,
not sure if you have seen Sorins videos (electronic repair school on youtube), but he swears by hotglue for hinge repair,
as long as you use a heatgun and 500°C for it.
It stays more flexible than epoxy and still bonds quite well, and as you said is easily removeable.

Paul, any ideas about getting the motherboard out of this machine, my wife's computer is this one, but in white. I need to replace a couple of worn out USB ports and need to get the board out..... I've had the back off it, about a dozen times, and re-soldered that &%$# power connector, twice..... Never figured out how to get the board out.....

They're always a pain, should be a bunch of hidden traps and then it should just lift away. Sadly I cannot seem to conjure from memory any specific steps.

What are the most often laptop screws? M3x3 and M3x6?

5/6/6.5 and 8mm seem to be popular lengths. Pitch/diameter tends to be unpredictable.

Sweet only problem with fixing laptops vs apple is that customers pay
very little and they tend to no give one monkeys what they do too there
laptops..I've fixed many laptops and the customers are always the same..
I had 1 customer bring his laptop back 4 times when he would throw it
off the wall or drop it or spill pop on it..In the end i told him the amount
of money you have spent on this one laptop on repairs you could had a
new one..He took the hint nad disappeared with it and off to buy a new one..
Last job i done was for a friend lenovo jack plug nothing too hold it in place
a sqaure one used blue tack and cardboard lol..Told him its still fine 1 year
later..The base of the lenovo was completely destroyed..And no way too
hold the dc jack in place..Wow i reluctant to touch any ones laptop unless
its a simple job and not smashed in 100 bits..Every one comes in with
loads of buttons missing hahahahah wtf...
Any ways keep up the good work funny thing is with laptops there
is just no money in them :( unless its a brand new decent laptop..
Or a simple reinstall or HDD replacement or clean out i won't touch
    them with a barge poll..

Quite right you are about the economics of it. I don't get too many PC laptops to repair where the client wants to spend more than $250 AU for any given job. Interestingly, even data recovery jobs are hard to have happen, "invaluable data" suddenly becomes "worth less than $250".

Paul Daniels Its such a shame i've seen many pc repair shops locally shut down.I think there is still money in business computer repair services like going to clients address to solve some types of issues but appart from that its over :(..Now i just do it for friends and family..Its like a Dc jack replacement no one is willing to pay more than £15 its just not worth the time or effort.I get what you are saying about the data recovery service...Back 10 yrs ago there was allot of money to be made..But laptops getting cheaper..Keep up the good work mate..I suppose it just means more hours to work to make money..
