Kalavryta Mega Spileo Monastery

The monastery, located 10 km from the town of Kalavryta, was initially built in 362 AD, around a cave, on a rocky hill, at a height of 924m.
In the year 840 it was burned by a religious group, it was rebuilt in 1285, and in 1943, the Nazi German troops, after the massacre in Kalavryta, set it on fire.
Nowadays it has been rebuilt, it has the architecture of a fortress and houses a church from the 17th century, remarkable frescoes, mosaic floors, important relics and a museum with carved wooden crosses and old manuscripts.
