Thank you for this nugget! Sterling struck me as an unpretentious man and very friendly, in fact he wrote me a letter after I'd sent him one in 1984! Miss you, Sterling...
Why isn't this footage getting more exposure? When 15 seconds of The Stooges (without sound) pratically gets a Blu Ray release and this superb archival footage of the VU during 1969 with Lou goes unoticed WHY? Superb upload Liked Commented and Subbed Thank You Very Much for this!
This was filmed in Dallas on Wednesday October 15, 1969. The version of Waiting for the Man that appeared on 1969: Live Velvet Underground was recorded the following Sunday, also in Dallas. Lou teases the audience about the Cowboys' blowout loss earlier in the day. So glad this exists. Can't get enough live VU. "The unanimous opinion was that we were 10 times better live than we were on records" - Sterling Morrison
The heart & soul of the Velvet Underground!According to Tod Hayne's fab doc. Sterling Morrison taught Jonathon Richman of the Modern Lovers,Guitar,& of course John Cale produced their first album!!:)
Pure gold. This is one of these vids that should get 2 millions views instead of this current 2 thousand. Those times were so much simpler believe it or not. Great band too
@@II-xl7lj very true. I can't tell you how light-years ahead of time these guys really were and Sterling Morrison was a great musician very underrated. I'm not sure why they don't have enough videos on him they barely do he was an amazing musician that deserves more credit but I think it's because he was so humble and quiet
@@clc-gl4jn I think I can agree, this is a reasonable explanation. Because even though he was not the founder, the amount of information about him and John and Lou in all the Velvet chronicles is amazing. Definitely he and later his family just didn't have the desire However dispute this, after watching the Todd Haynes movie, I was furious because of the role he was assigned there, it's just nonsense
@@II-xl7ljThat dreaded Haynes documentary should have called “A love letter to John Cale”, ‘cause that’s what it basically was. Sterling, Moe, and Doug are only mentioned once in the first hour or so, just totally missed the boat! Infuriating……..

Galaxy 500 made a bright tribute to him through the title "Tugboat"..
What a great player under rated, low profile a true guitar hero.
I think that’s the best 20 seconds of velvet underground footage that exist

I really like that slow version of "Waiting For the Man" they did in 1969.
Guitar Hero!God Bless Your soul always,Mr. Morrison:)
..that footage of Mo Tucker in a NY Jets sweater& Lou at the tail end is the cherry on top:).........
Love his guitar strumming on the 'quine tapes' never knew he was such a lad.
Sad Sterling passed away so young not long after the velvets reunion tour 😥
This is flipping amazing!

Their coolness is that living at that time they were people from the 21st century, and maybe even further
