    The mechanical picture of nature like classical physics literally got us to the moon. But we know underneath the mechanics even in biology are the complex forces of the atom, that actually do protein folding and perform cellular metabolic processes. However in the interest of investigating RNA and vaccine development, the mechanical picture and cataloging suffices. Consciousness as Bertrand Russell and others pointed out reveals this gap between the mechanical picture and what makes subjective experience. No mystery here that we can catalog neural correlates outside the cell but inside the cell is still a somewhat mystery.

      @demergent_deist 5 месяцев назад +2

      The non-mechanistic world view, Aristotelian or Neoplatonic, could just as easily have taken us to the moon. Anyone who dismisses this is committing a non sequitur. The lunar achievement was purely an engineering feat, which took place after countless trials and errors. The ideology of the church alone, not her philosophy, rather prevented a conceivable journey to the moon.

    • @demergent_deist
      @demergent_deist 5 месяцев назад

      You are very much mistaken in thinking that philosophy is not a real subject. You philosophize every day, probably without realizing it. For example, you presuppose the philosophical theory that you are not the only existing consciousness, or that material stuff is ‘out there’. Or whether the world has a definite beginning or has always been and is eternal can only be decided philosophically, if at all, namely by which model turns out to be the most coherent when fully explicated. No blah, blah, blah.

      “Theology is the modern day version of witchcraft and shamanism”
      Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence!. This is a straw man argument lol. Did you even listen to DBH. Its actually pure physicalism that is synonymous with witchcraft and shamanism not the belief in the fundamental nature of mind and consciousness and an immanent ground of all being, existence and reality. We have a lot of evidence for the qualitative subjective experience of reality such as love, altruism, beauty, bravery, morals, ethics, meaning and purpose, that is the fundamental nature of mind and consciousness. All the best to you ❤️

    Christians should be careful
    To think humans can survive apart from their bodies, live eternally in heaven or Hell, they may be far to close to believing a dangerous thing akin to the claims and promises of the father of lies who claimed such things from the beginning. Namely, "You shall be gods.".
    God declared Adam a living soul after the body and spirit were combined. Not before. And scripture proclaims our mortality, the need for the tree of life for immortal status, and that God alone has immortality.
    Last I checked God is the one granting life, and His design was a living body with breath. Hence the whole.second coming and resurrection. If Hell is eternal conscious torment whats the whole point of the tree of life? Seen in Eden, taken away to limit life, and as a necessity even in the new heavens and new earth.

    • @anthonymccarthy4164
      @anthonymccarthy4164 4 года назад +4

      If you're making recourse to Genesis to make your argument - especially if you are including "the father of lies" in your claims - you seem to leave out the very part of the creation allegories in which God created angels, living creatures with intentional thought - otherwise how could some of them have rebelled - and their own consciousness - otherwise how could they suffer torment - which are not embodied. Jesus answered you in his response to the Sadducees quoting Exodus that God is the God of the living, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob still living as God spoke to Moses. We die into God, an infinitely more real life than the life we experience in our bodies, more real than we know now.

      Well, at least he's talking to a good variety of intelligent people. But it _is_ odd that Kuhn's presumptions and ignorance have persisted throughout all of his work on this project. He seems not to _advance_ through his discussions. Kuhn has little to say; don't let that bother you; just listen to his interviewees.
