    Sam what a great video. You have explained soils perfectly. People do freak out over soil. Or get a weird thing about soil. Plus explaining tree work. Thanks mate

      Cheers mate. Yep I think people get too concerned with soil amd forget about basic horticulture. House plants are the same a a bonsai in a pot 😀

    Great explanation on your theory of soil and trimming of the trees.

    Love your Red Gums Sam, I save all of your Red Gum vids to a play list and always have watch them more than once! They're a reference for me 😊
    They definitely deserve a nice pot now mate 👍
    I agree with what you say about the Red Gums, easily trim them 3-4 times a year.. They grow like mad in the warmer months. I use a Natives soil mix for mine mostly.. Cheers 🌱

      @@SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke the Aussie Bonsai Bloke definitely needs some more Gums mate.. Lemon Scented Gum, Tas. Blue Gum, Peppermint Gum etc all work as Bonsai. I'm trying some Mallee's too, Yellow Mallee, Blue Mallee, SA Mallee, Gooseberry Mallee like you have too 👍

    Great work Sam. As you say dirt is dirty and that’s just it , if you have a dollar to spend on what people think is the optimum soil then go for it ,but us back yarders usually can’t afford the good stuff. It’s just as much fun anyway. Great work in the tree you need to name her though. Maybe Matilda would suit. Or The Sisters. Hope your having fun and keep on keeping on. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼🍻🍻

    Bloody ripper Sam! Going to test out how one of my red gums cope with defoliation in the Spanish summer next year. 🍻

    After watching you dig out a Red Gum from the vineyard, I thought I would give it a go myself. My Red Gum from the paddock has no leaves and is just sulking in its pot for months.

    Third times a charm they say, tree took is serious. 3 trunks for the price of one. It has so much movement. I like it's uniqueness!

    Yep, love that tree. Definitely one of my favourites. One of Australia's absolutely iconic eucalypts. When you see the old ancient trees along the Murray or Murrumbidgee Rivers etc its just awe inspiring and to grow them as bonsai is bloody brilliant. I have a few and a couple are from cuttings, so they are the whole package. Dead set true about limbs dying for no reason, but that gives them a lot of character and they just sprout new grow so easily. Cheers for the vid and I'm still too chicken to defoliate my RRG's yet. Question: Do you defoliate your Silver Birch?

    • @SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke
      @SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke  3 года назад +1

      Try it mid summer. Tree will respond well.
      Silver Birch well I defoliated 2. 1 came back strong and the other had yellowing in the leaves. Still a working progress on that one 😀😀

    No, they say akadama causes the roots to divide because the particles break in half when a root goes inside
    That gum is much bigger in the last year. It’s looking great

  • @madogmabz

    Maybe instead of pruning it set it alight so it burns see if that promotes growth.

    How is that other tree you got from work in the grape trees. The eucalyptus one you dug out

  • @jameswalker3416
    @jameswalker3416 3 года назад +1

    Are all eucalyptus similar in bonsai culture? Ive got snow gum seedlings there going on 3 years old. Also do they clone easily?
